Brian, this is a good drill, and I've done it before, but another good drill to do is (i forget the name of it, but I will explain shortly.) Where you hav a ball in the heart of each corner pocket, a ball at each middle diamond and the remaining three balls are lined up in the middle of the table first ball is on the spot. The second ball is in the dead center of the table, and the last ball is in the middle of the head string. The rules to this drill are that you get ball in hand on the very first shot, and you can not shoot combination shots or hit another ball after contact. If you miss the shot the drill resets. This drill, in particular, has helped me get better at speed control and position. The more advanced version is to shoot the balls in order without crossing the center of the table. Which is very hard to do imho.

Bryan, I’ve been doing this drill for months. Really like it. I do the simple version , lining one ball / diamond and shooting any order and any pocket. I start by lagging and my 1st ball is shot from wherever my lag stops. Thanks for sharing this drill!

Drills are so much more demanding and daunting than just knocking the balls around the table, but if you don't play well you need to get to work on the basics of stroke and aiming . Some drills like this will help you instill them in your game faster than hitting random shots.

Gonna try this drill today… someone showed me a drill with all 15 balls certain balls go in certain places along the rail and there are 3 balls in the center of the table you had to shoot them in order without hitting another ball. Now obviously if you did you take ball in hand and keep going but it really helps with speed control and position play at the same time it’s an awesome drill

Yep ... as easy or as hard as you want to make it! But be honest with yourself and do this at your own level, you will gradually build and get better as you progress. "Cheat" as you will, it's of no benefit and only hurts YOU!!! The game is "your intent" with "cue ball control" ... :) Not always so easy!!! Thanks Bryan for another hugely beneficial video/demo. Be Safe

Hi Bryan, I do a similar drill, but with a variation that I picked up somewhere. Fifteen balls in line, shoot in any sequence, but cue ball must stay on one side of the line of balls, and no side pockets, only two corner pockets used. I like your way much better, it's not so constrained. Gonna try it this afternoon. Thanks, Bryan!

I need a cheat sheet or something on when to use what type of English in what situation. Some situations are obvious but some are a bit confusing. When the ball is stuck to the rail are the situations that confuse me. I'm sure it's obviously to any decent player for a brand new player like myself it can be tough. I guess trial and error is the only way i will learn. I should probably start with drills against the bumper and then go from there.

It sounds a lot like you haven’t put in very many hours. If you’re not seeing improvement, you either need some individual coaching or a lot more hours. There’s no shortcut in this game- let us know when you have 4000 hours of “deliberate practice”

Good morning! I need some advice.. without seeing me shoot.. last night I was hitting every shot! Crazy, intentional shots. Now I get here to warm up for the weekly tournament, and I'm missing everything.. I know a big part, I need to slow down, but I feel like it's more than that.

You may have burnt yourself out a little bit the day before- you have to be careful about overdoing it. find a quiet space to kind of relax yourself and realize you’ve got nothing to lose. And simply try to have fun without putting the extra pressure on yourself.
