In this video I fish a new-to-me creek, and it turns out to be amazing. One pool in particular turns out to be probably the best one I've ever fished in a small stream. Awesome!

Been fly fishing and brook fishing in Maine for 40+ years and never ceases to amaze me how these small western streams hold such fish like these. No way you see trout like that, and that many, in brooks in Maine. Jealous!

I’m originally from Oregon lived 40 years there . Now in North Dakota I’ve fished everything here not impressed at all. Rather be fishing a small stream any day than fish here anymore. Me and my wife are buying a couple of theses tenkara poles! Can’t wait to try them out…

I'm not much of a fisherman, but I've been looking at the Tenkara system for awhile. It looks like it has an esthetic that is attractive to me. I love the simplicity and the compactness of the gear. Thanks for this video, it has whet my appetite to get one of these.

A fishing day of a dream: autumn time, a most beautiful creek, two species of trout at least, with marvellous colours that are good sized...man how I envy you!!! What a fall day surrounded by pristine nature and looking forward what that pool has to offer. Will It be a cutthroat, a rainbow, a brown or a brooky?

Yeah. Its easier. Very little between you and the fish. Pretty much zero drag on your drifts. In a heavy pocket water area like this, its deadly.

So I came across your RU-vid channel a few weeks ago, and I’ve been enjoying your videos since. This one was especially fun to watch. I watched a video a few days ago where you described the various types of lands available for ‘free camping’. You also provided various means of access to those lands. The lands that you fish at are mostly what types of lands that you have access to. Keep fishing!!

I prefer a 360-400 cm rod for that stream. Just my personal taste, but the Mizuchi is a little too short for optimum control in that wide of a stream. It looks like you have a Nirvana 400 sticking out of your backpack. That rod would be great on that stream. BTW, there is some really nice water half a mile downstream from there ;o)
@TenkaraAddict

I don't disagree! For better or worse, I find myself liking to fish with basically one rod, and that is currently the Mizuchi. Thanks Tom!

Awesome! Cutties rule! I know exactly where this is. My videos of same place are all labeled "Tenkara Paradise", one published Oct 2015 and the other Sep 2016. I have fished the ponds area you talked about and it was funny, because it was all Brookies but probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever fished and full of trout. Your new state is a fly fishing paradise like Utah.

Yep, tenkara was designed to fish this kind of creek and smaller. Works great. This particular rod extends up to 11 feet. The tippet is 5x, which is rated roughly to 5 lbs.

Even though I go to a lot of great places to fish, I am a non fisherman because I don't eat fish. But you make this catch and release look like a lot of fun. I have never seen anyone fish without a reel. It looks like it makes things a LOT simpler and easier to pack etc. I never saw you remove a hook, is that just because you didn't video that or is there another reason? For us potential new fisherman, please do a teaching video. I enjoyed this very much, it looks like so many places I've been. Thanks for a very nice video.

You could fish this pool for a long time testing strategies and methods. The whole thing, from where the two flows come together to the tail out just look great! I would be here for the better part of the day. Fish it for a while, then have lunch, fish it a little more. Move to another location for a while then come back. It's a rare find. Hey Tristan, thanks for sharing your Tenkara adventures. As a hardened fly fisherman, I have resisted trying for a while now, but watching your adventures has motivated me to take the leap. Thanks for the inspiration! Geeky little fact, that hook on the lower lip of the rainbow is called a kype. Kypes evolve from the lower jaws of some male trout and are a sign of sexual maturity.

There is a better method to net fish. Ask people you trust or watch some japanese anglers techniques. It will make you better in your streamcraft and will help you avoid missing a fish of a lifetime. Cheers.
