In this video, Dr. Berg talks about the best alternative for prednisone. Taking too much prednisone can cause side effects to the point where you couldn’t take it anymore because it doesn’t work. Over 23 million prescriptions are given out every single year in the US. Prednisone is a synthetic version of our own adrenal hormone called cortisol, a very powerful anti-inflammatory.
Prednisone is mainly given to people with these certain types of conditions.
• Asthma
• Allergies
• Skin Issues
• Inflammation
• Autoimmune
• Hives
Side Effects of Prednisone
• Shutting the adrenal system
• Cataracts
• Bone Loss
• Diabetes
• Weight Gain
• Adrenal Atrophy
The safe alternative for prednisone is called vitamin D3, it is a steroid hormone and a very powerful anti-inflammatory. It also gives you a therapeutic effect at higher dosages.
Recommended IUs for Vitamin D3: 30,000 IUs (with 300mcg of K2)

Dr. Berg, my mom has been on Prednizol for 30 years. She’s been having all these side effects and her sickness been really tough on our whole family. In the last 10-15 years shes been trying to stop taking this steroid and we tried all kind of strategies without luck cause whenever she decreases the dose she starts getting very unwell. So in the last decade she’s been taking it with once a week injection of Metojek and very recently she’s been offered the Simponi which is a biological drug that her doctor said will help her to quit prednizol for good and her stomach and other side effects will go away, however, she still can’t - within last 5 months she has lost a lot of weight, feels very tired, once her legs quit her she couldn’t walk and last week she had an acute cystitis, which might be cause I hear biological drugs reduce your strength to fight infections, so her doctor suggested she continues with 4 mg of prednizol and plus biological drug😢 So i am happy to see this video and alternative treatment to prednizol you suggest but my question, how realistic it is for my mom to quit taking prednisone after so many years and after so many trials that ended up in getting back on prednisone ? 😢😢

Dr. Berg, could you please make a video on how to recover from prolonged (6 months) use of Prednisone? I was prescribed prednisone because my doctors had a suspicion I had an autoimmune disease (which was not confirmed), and that basically turned my healthy thyroid into a hypothyroid, spiked my bloodsugars, made me suffer insomnia for over 5 years, I got insulin resistance, gained 60 lbs. How can i reverse or at least lessen the disaster that prednisone has done to me? Can i "recover" my thyroid function? Thank you!!

My son has leukemia and takes prednisone for 5 day sprints every two weeks. We recently had a scare of possible avascular necrosis which would have resulted from prednisone use, but the xray didn't show any proof and symptoms went away. Prednisone is disgusting. Ill definitely take this info to his oncologist for his next appt and see if D3 is suitable alternative to boost his immune system after chemo.

Dr. Berg, great video. I got gout for the first time in my life (I think from fasting 23 hours a day for 2 months). I've read fasting can cause uric acid levels to go up. I took prednisone and it worked great but I had insomnia and couldn't sleep at all. Had to take Benedryl at night to get some sleep. Great to know vitamin D can help with this. Do you think vitamin D would help with Vitiligo as well? My wife got vitiligo after giving birth to our first child. Any suggestions on what she could take to help with vitililigo? Thanks again for all the amazing content you put out!

Luteolin can help. I drink celery juice and also iceberg lettuce juice with small chunk of cucumber. Peanuts have luteolin as well but you could take a supplement. Pau D'arco is amazing for inflammation in general as well. These are the things that helped me so much. I Don't use Advair or inhaler anymore but also on my own specific diet for that. Still try to stay keto as much as I can. I have adrenal fatigue though so had to add a few more carbs in. I Also take the D3, K2 supplement 30,000 IU D3, 300mcg K2 like Doctor Berg recommended.

I think the idea is that without commensurate K2 usage there may be problems with excess calcium in the blood, which may cause kidney issues. The K2 should rectify that, AFAIK.

Interesting stuff! I know someone who was on Prednisone for Sarcoidosis. I'm not sure if they are still on Prednisone, but they were also told to cut back on things fortified with Vitamin D because their levels were too high. Seems like maybe the body was trying to over-produce Vitamin D in response to the Sarcoidosis (and maybe other issues) but maybe that's not something the doctors considered.

This video is great!!! I've been looking into the causes of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). One of the articles you pointed to, shows that D-vitamin regulates the ratio between the Th17 cells and the Treg cells in the immune system which seems to be what is out of whack in AIH. As there are also articles about how D-vitamin is important to take when you have liver problems, and that it can actually limit damage to the liver in animals with induced AIH, you really should consider taking just 'a little extra' D-vitamin - and get out in the sun when you can - if you have AIH 🙂
