and never forget to use your utilities whether it be placing shields on defense or destroying one on attack, bring as much utility possible! also stay as close to the objective as possible even if you think its a waste of time, anchoring is the best way to learn fundamentals. if your attacking, use your drone as much as possible and always push with your team, never go alone and if you are playing on your own or with friends, listen to them and not do your own thing. i have taught quite a few friends and i know its hard to start off, especially when the people i played with starting this game didn't know how teach me.

Thatcher and Castle were my first two starting ops. Word of caution: if you're gonna start off learning castle, make sure to watch some how to's. But here's 1 free tip: Don't place the barricades in a way that will screw over your team. Whether it's cutting off your roamer from getting back to site, or trapping your anchors in site, make sure every barricade can only waste the attacker's time, not your own.
@tomzicare

I think Castle is really underrated. I wouldn't recommend him to a new player though. So many new players pick Sledge and then your Castle pick is going to waste. Plus the UMP is a bad gun when you haven't mastered your aim yet.
@johnconstantine7442
@johnconstantine7442 3 года назад
I use Castle and usually i use his baricades on exteriors not interiors. The point is to deny or delay an attack. Usually i pick Caste when the site has lots of windows or entries and go for the obvious ones for the attackers to use. And I like his SMG. I am a ok player in general (elevated to good if a team is good too), and the ump gets me kills.
@Doinstuffman
@Doinstuffman 3 года назад
@@tomzicare in which case, communicate with your roamer to prevent that. My favorite Castle strat is holding Armory when defending Vents/Workshop on Border. I usually tell my roamer(s) that I'm Castling off the archive door that leads to fountain, so they at least know to make a different rotate back to site or save an impact should the worst case scenario play out. It hasn't backfired yet.
@Doinstuffman

@@johnconstantine7442 as I said, I mainly play Castle when sites like Vent/Workshop on Border come up, and as long as you're letting your team know what your setup is, they're usually willing to work with or around it. I’d argue Sledge is really up here as well. He’s 2 speed 2 armor, his guns are smooth as butter to use with a high skill secondary, and he has one of the funnest yet simplest gadgets in the game. To the newcomers of siege, I would recommend 2 ops: sledge and rook. Both have some decent guns and simple gadgets. Sledge can smash holes in walls and floors 25 times before you can't use your hammer anymore. Rook's armor bag is a very simple "set and forget" gadget. Usually drop your pack as soon as the round starts. Hope this helps :)

@markvandenthillart5739
@markvandenthillart5739 3 года назад
@Xpert Guy enemies can see the laser, so it may warn them when you were about to shoot them (or even give away your position). if you're playing an attacking operator with a shield (monty, blitz, fuze can pick a shield too) you will need a laser, it improves your hipfire (aiming down sights with a shield will expose you, hipfire when wearing a shield is very inaccurate) and you'll most likely be seen anyways. they can be useful on shotguns too when firing from the hip, but I'd say that's more of a personal choice. on any other weapon you always want to aim down sights or you won't hit anything most of the time, making the laser pointless

I started with Mute and IQ, since Greg already talked about mute I'll talk about IQ. I started with Mute/Thermite. I have trust issues, and I can't rely on my team since I mostly play QP. So I learned 2 of the most important roles. 1 on attack, and 1 on defense. Hard breaching is almost always necessary, and if the site can be easily muted, then it gives the defense a huge advantage.

The thing I struggled with the most as a new player was map knowledge. I had also never played an FPS before. I really wouldn't recommend Mute with the shotgun/smg to a new player because: 1) Zero map knowledge means you have no idea where the rotates/holes even need to go. A new player is worrying about where the stairs are (or at least I was), not where to open lines of sight. 2) The SMG-11 is really hard to control and has a tiny magazine for its fire rate. I'd suggest simpler ops for newer players so they can focus on the fundamentals. You mentioned something like that when you spoke about Ash, so I'm surprised that you didn't mention Rook.

I always like to recommend Sledge and Rook for the starting ops. Sledge is really straight forward with a high skill ceiling and a great gun to learn how to use (smg 11 too). I feel like he’s the most balanced operator on attack and is useful on any team comp. Rook is great for starting out learning anchoring and has a passive gadget that your team will get use out of even if you’re dead. His primary weapon is great for learning basic siege recoil management, and he’s also useful in most team comps, but without the skill ceiling that sledge has.
@ramonperez5365
@ramonperez5365 3 года назад
Most defensive ops that I recommend to new players have passive gadgets, since they’ll be busy getting used to the difficulty curve and recoil management, meaning they’ll be better use to the team with things like mute jammers, valk cams, and rook armor
@einsUNDcolt
@einsUNDcolt 3 года назад
I started with Ash and Doc. I played previous rainbow 6 games and the g36c was my favorite gun, so that influenced my decision entirely for attack. For defense, Doc was my choice because in other games healer was the role I liked playing the most. With Doc being essentially the only real healer in the game, I chose him. Eventually I drifted from Ash to IQ. Her gadget is incredibly helpful for a new player to not only learn where the default cameras are, but also to avoid pesky kapkan and lesion traps. I would 100% recommend IQ to a new player to learn things about the game.

I started playing Siege when Operation Phantom Sight came out, I bought the Deluxe edition that had free Ops first op i played was Glaz because of the training thing you do at the start, but after a few rounds i realized he's not good for every situation Then I went fuze but same thing, not good for any situation (only ended up getting fuze cause i mistook him for montagne cause of the shield Then Montagne. Had fun with Montagne but got bored quickly because i just end up trapped in a corner a lot The next operator I chose and became my true main is Caveira. It's been 2 or 3 weeks since i started playing Siege. I played her wrong a lot, I didn't know she was a roamer so i just stood in the site a lot (i stood in the sight in defender all the time when i started). Then a friend of mine invited me to play 1 v 1 to help me get used to the game. He kept berating me for staying in the site all the time when im defender and got really triggered when i use Cav to anchor. He kept telling me that Cav is a roamer and that I should roam. And thats when i started playing her a lot properly as a roamer until she became my main. as for attacker, funnily enough, the Op that became my main used to be the Op I hated the most using.... Blitz. At first it was Nokk because she was like Cav but invisible to cams, so I farmed enough renown by playing any Attack Ops until I got enough to get Nokk. Then I played her a lot. But I saw people (and fought people) playing Blitz and I thought he was cool so I bought him and started playing him. At first it was hard to use him cause his flash shield is so buggy. But getting kills using him was so satisfying that even though i keep dying a lot and sometimes get mad, I just keep coming back to him. For the people reading this that are new to the game, I recommend using the mp5k until you are confident with a shotgun. The shotgun can be pretty difficult to use if you do not know what you are doing. Also make sure that you are using 1.5 on mp5k, iron sights on shotgun and holo on smg-11. Try not to use a lazer. Just for people looking for people to start with, I started with Bandit as my first defender. He has a simple MP7 with easy recoil and his utility is just a c4 you can throw at people but if your not confident with that, use it to make rotates. His gadgets is also easy and simple, electrify some reinforced walls that you think attackers will want to open or that you already know are fundamental to the round or electrify some barbed wire on a doorway if you have an extra battery, but be careful for team gadgets near barber wire or on reinforced walls. I’m not sure what attack op I started with but I would say I used Sledge since he has an easy to use AR and a pistol if you don’t like the SMG-11 but when Zofia came out, I went more towards her. Zofia is really for people who tried Ash and didn’t like her. She has an easy to control gun and has a 2x scope if you want some magnification and would suggest to use vertical grip with it but if you like the 1x scope, try out angled grip as it helps with ADS speed which is what I run on her. Hope this helps somebody out.

Started as Rook and Fuze player, using passive utility is really helpful for your mates if your not confident in gunfighting, or any big brain plays. As rook, you always help your mates as long as you place down your armor, REALLY EASY, and yes REALLY HELPFUL. Same with Fuze, used the LMG and his cluster charges and did what I could in the beginning of my pc gaming career. Ask your teammates who they need or want and help them out because some ops have really good synergies such as bandit + mira or thermite + thatcher.

My brother has had a lot of success with Jackal and Bandit. He enjoys the ITA secondary and M870 specifically and has seen a lot of success with their SMGs. Jackal is good for teaching situational awareness as he can show typical routes and hiding spots. Bandit is straight forward and good for passive utility.

I started out with ash and Jager in Early Y5S. I moved away from jager quickly into an doc main didn’t spawnpeek. I played Ash for an while but moved onto Thermite who I have Main since the end of Y5S1 (tip for thermite: Play more passive then aggressive as thermite’s gun is lower in the middle tier so hold angles after you breached the wall on run-outs or flanks) I have switched mains on defence a lot from doc to bandit,maestro, mozzie,kaid and now smoke/mute. I don’t have real main on defence now so I have become the “Flex” for my team. For Kaid I recommend to get better at the shotgun over the aug as the shotgun is overall better Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

I started out in Wind Bastion as an Ash Rook main. Rook, cuz again, high floor, and people in low ranks dont want to sit on site, and everyone wants to be a hero. Ash because I knew I wasnt going to contribute much anyway, so picking Ash would cause my team mates to stop expecting anything from me at all. Another op I picked up along the way at the beginning was Fuze, cuz crazy gun, 3 armor (to force you to not run in), and a gadget that freaks people out in low ranks. Gradually became a Thermite/Thatcher support main, with Mute MP5k on defence. This season in Gold my most played ops are Ace and Nomad, and Melusi and Jager.

my first Operators (and are still my favourite ones after almost 2 years of playing Siege) are Kapkan on Defenders, Thermite on Attackers. Kapkan might be unorthodox to new players as you need to have map knowledge, common entry routes, etc but he has good weapons (even his primary shotgun) and as you play him with his traps, you can gain that map knowledge and at the same time, gain and share enemy intel with your teammates provided you need to remember where you placed them. you'll get used to it after a while. it's also okay to do try-and-errors with your traps early on, it also helps you learn a lot of intel. Thermite would also be a great pick, as Thermite-Thatcher combo is quite common. his AR is quite good, has an easy to learn recoil, medium ROF and also can chip off decent dmg (it's a headshot weapon for me). like Kapkan, playing him fresh would also make you learn map knowledge. try not to die before you could even use your gadget, because it would be a disadvantage to your enemies if your team does not have a backup hard breacher.

On other tips, don't pick 1 def 1 atc pick up 2 def 2 atc so then you have a higher chance that when the op that you main already got picked you can switch to your other main. I play cas and mute on defense because I this reason I also have a pocket echo just in case both mute and cas are picked.

I started out with Jäger and mute on defence and Thatcher and fuze on attack. The tips I have for Jäger is that if you have enough map knowledge you can tell where the attackers use their utility so just put the ADS where it can take out most of their utility.

I started as a therm thatcher attacker main and a rook defence main. Playing rook was basically a way to help me learn how to play the game while using a set and forget gadget that helped everyone on my team. I didn't have to focus on using my gadget hard core the entire round making sure it was up or placed well, I could work on my game sense and aim without hindering my team. Thatcher and thermite I got into becuase they are both support to a degree and I enjoyed that roll. I am now a Zofia/Gridlock Offense main and a Legion/Alibi/Kaid main on defence. I went from stock ops to post launch ops with diverse rolls in the team 🧡 keep at it and you will be a copper 5 like me soon! (Jk over the time I've progressed from hard struck bronze to Plat 2 🧡 just keep workin and you will keep improving!)

Didn't really have an attacker main when I started playing per se, I mostly flip flopped between Thatcher and Thermite with Fuze somewhere along the way. For defenders, I stuck on Rook and sometimes Doc since at the time when no one was explaining how to play Siege at all, I thought that armor and healing was almost mandatory (I'm an RPG nerd shut it).

My squad started me out as a Thermite/Rook main originally, which I feel like is a pretty decent start. Thermite can be a bit tricky because you're trusting a noob to stay alive long enough to blow the wall, but overall it was a good starting place, especially for me, because I'm not the best at face-checking enemies. These days I usually run Fuze/Valk. Sometimes if I'm popping off I'll run Cav, and if we need a hardbreacher I'll take Thermie again, but typically I stick to Fuze/Valk.

My most important advice, as when I remember to use it I actually gets kills and play good. Move around. I am not talking about roaming as this for more advanced/skilled players. Move around, don't stay in one place too long if the enemy knows you are there. This will take your enemy by surprise. You attack from one point, and get in a firefight? Unless you are a good shooter, relocate. Get to another point/entry of attack. Don't insist on one door or window. The defenders know you are there and are waiting for you to enter that door/window. Use another entry. As a defender (anchoring) you are limited in your movement to a room or 2, 3 rooms. Enemy knows the general place you are in a room? Move to another place in the room, or in another room. Again, insisting staying in one place gets you killed easily. I am a ok player usually, so against a better player i am at a disadvantage. My counter is to move around, to not be where the other player(s) expects me to be.

I started playing siege at the start of year 3 and the first dlc operatori got was dokkaebi (used the 600 credits i got from buying the year pass with the game) and ever since I've been a Doki main. She isnt the best in terms of guns or gadgets buy she fits a role that I'm happy to fill. A support that holds long angles. It helped me work on my teamwork whether i was on comms or not. To keep an eye on my teammates and check if they're pushing then I'd throw down a call. On defense when i got mira she instantly became my main, as like I said I'm not the best aim and having an operator that's designed for people to sit, wait, and prefire helps both me and my team. I can make sightlines for them and provide an anchor that most certainly will always sit on site and keep watch, and it makes me feel safer as with her black mirrors I'm almost always safe and at an advantage against anyone pushing me.

I started with Mute on Defense and Hibana on Attack! Not sure why I went with Hibana but her primary weapon (Type 44?) is one that sort of pushes you into the deep end but has a rope tied around your waist so you can be pulled out if you drown. It’s not too difficult to handle, but not too easy.

I just wanted to try everything and to make my own idea of each operator and guns, and now I’m starting to know what I like to play, which operator I like and which I can’t play. Perhaps not the best way to start, but it let me enjoy a larger experience of the game, and let me enjoy the game so now I can focus on being better on what I like.

Started off with Jäger on def due to his place and play style, if you’re new. I recommend staying on sight to learn where the utility is coming from so you can get ads placements. At the same time using Jäger as an anchor gives you the bonus of a decent gun to learn aim, breach defence and working on site as a team. If you need a better scope and someone that can take punishment I recommend Rook for gun and armour. More time alive in rounds is more experience on sites. As for attack I started off with Thermite, his gun isn’t too bad for damage or recoil and it gives you a better intro to gadget deployment and teamwork. If the breaching isn’t something you’re ready for I can recommend Lion, especially if you wanna learn where people can rotate from and gadget use for the team. His gun choices are strong too. If you have a few friends playing I could recommend a high difficulty thunt or a few unranked games to learn site set up. Best advice I have.

I started out with Hibana and Bandit, pretty good operators to learn about hard breaching / hard breach denial. Then recently swapped to Mute (to learn intel denial) and Nomad (to play support and deny runouts and flanks while the hard breachers do their thing). Wouldn't recommend starting out with Hibana though since there's a lot riding on you as the hard breacher.

I started with mute and smoke and played hard anchor (for new players, I tried to stay on site the entire round). You may be surprised how much success you will find anchoring in unranked and low elo siege. Everyone is so anxious, they feel like they aren't accomplishing anything I'd they aren't in a gunfight every 30 seconds. I've watched rooks with amazing angles decide to push off-site when they didn't know where the enemies were. Here's the key takeaway. 30 seconds of you holding an angle on site, with no action, is 30 less seconds the attackers have to push the site and either plant or kill everyone. Remember, the ATTACKERS are on a timer, not the defenders, the defenders win if it runs out. As an anchor, force the attackers into shitty scenarios. If you're playing smoke, gas out the entry point that they spent over 2 minutes setting up, make them have to scramble to find a new avenue of attack. If you're rook, hold hard angles and shoot anything that moves, even if it doesn't kill them they will know they are at a disadvantage. As echo, find a comfy corner to sit in (don't forget about sledge and fuse though) and harass the hell out of attackers with your yokai, or just use it as a massive source of intel for your othe defenders. Communicate with your team, and remember that playing the objective and winning the round matters more than getting many kills.

I started with Finka and Doc/Rook. Finka is good for solo queuing and finding people to play with cause she can fit into almost any team comp, and people like you for giving them health. Believe it or not, people like being alive! Her guns are nice for new players, as she has all three types of fundamental weapons: an AR, an LMG, and a shotgun. I haven't used her in about 4 months and she's still my top operator, so try her out and watch as your stats fly. Doc was not a very smart move on my part, so I think Rook is better for newer players as the chonky boy is a one-trick (but helpful) pony with his plates, because, as you know, people like being alive. BUT Doc can rip a team in half when in the right hands, so if you master Rook, give him a shot. With skilled teammates, the extra 40 health can be a lifesaver on run-outs.

I started with Rook and Ash. Picked Rook as he can just augment his team and wander off roaming. Ive been playing siege for almost 2 years, almost 1000s hours now so here's my 2 cents: Defense: Rook, Kapkan, Doc, Pulse They all have either easy to use guns, fun to play, and enforce different aspects for beginners. (Doc users either can learn to anchor to stay alive to give stims or can roam, learning how to engage/disengage with gunfights to use stims on themselves and pulse has wallhacks). Attacking: Sledge, Ash, Blackbeard, Jackel All of these guys can die without hurting your team immensely.

It also works really well when I'm playing solo, 2 minutes into the round I'll just scan a rotate hole from the floor above and catch them off guard, or scan a window and prefire it before they have time to break it
