@@hazelgruntswhen I worked with a reptile rescue they found it depended heavily on the gecko. Smaller ones did better in 20s, as well as older and disabled ones. That 1450 one sounds like it would be great for something like a water dragon. Well, I think a good rule of thumb would be that the length of the animal should be shorter than the shortest dimension. Doesn't really work with snakes but it's great for lizards and tortoises.

I currently have a 7 year old, 3 foot long Ball Python in a 40 gallon. When I got it, I thought that would be enough, but now I'm planning to move him or her into a 4×2×2 when I get the chance. (I can't afford it at this instant, but I should be within a few months, and he or she can stretch out now) I also have a 1.5 year old Superdwarf Retic in a 5×2×2. He's currently 5 feet long, according to the "Two Sides" rule, he should be good until he reaches 7 feet. Reach Out Reptiles said he'd probably reach between 7 and 9 feet, but I'm told he could get a lot bigger. Eventually, I want to move him into an 8×4×4, which would be good for a snake up to 12 feet long. Hopefully that will give enough wiggle room!

A childrens isn't as big as a spotted, and the size I wanted was a 3x2x2, but turns out that's a weird size I would have had to build myself. The size I got should still work unless she turns out to be a giant. So, yeah, you missed 50 gallons, I guess

What company did you get you big enclosure back there from? Looking to upgrade my basilisk enclosure since he's freakish big for his species despite already being in a big enclosures. I always go at least double then the 'recommended size' at least. Also, im suprised Hydrodynastes gigas never gets mentioned on your channel. As 'venomous' as a hognose but more active and handlable without the drama. I find them less nippy then hogs when they're juveniles too. Bigger mind you, but theyre also extremely intelligent and curious snakes and they dont play dead or burrow unlike hoggies. I swear the one hoggie i babysat wasnt even smart enough to find food unless it was dangled close enough to touch and still somehow missed it half the time. It was also like having a box of dirt, 99% of the time he was in his hide or buried with just his head popped out. At least my Falsie is out and watching me like a creepy little stalker everytime I enter the room and has figured out some basic puzzle toys.

I saw someone make a better suggestion for minimum enclosure size. Instead of the snake being equal to the length and depth of the enclosure, the minimum should be the snakes length diagonally from corner to corner.. I guess the same way they measure TVs 😄 but that comes out to more space than two sides. (For example, instead of trying to fit a 6 ft snake in a 4 x 2, it would be minimum for a 4.5 ft snake)

By that logic a 10x4x5 would still be too small for a retic which is what I plan on building and is larger than 99.9% of retics in captivity the only exceptions being zoos which have 20k to blow on glass for enclosures

Just curious does anybody know if I can house a bearded dragon in 36x24? I know the recommended is 48x24 but is it possible to get away with it? I don’t have much room for the extra foot but I’ve been taking every precaution to make sure I got good supplies needed to let it have a good life.

I've just gotten 2 bearded dragons that someone can't care for anymore, they've been together for 6 years in one tank, I'm assuming they're both female because of that fact. Just curious would people recommend keeping them together or building 2 separate enclosure for them? They'd been kept in a 180ish gallon tank. If I do one it'll be extra big so they have plenty of space I'd rather separate them just not sure if it'd stress them

I strongly recommend separating them. The 180 gallon would be great for one, and the other would need a 4x2x2’ minimum (ideally larger). They will likely be stressed initially simply because major changes in a reptile’s environment stresses them out. Once given enough time to adjust they’ll do fine.

@@colinstone2967looks like you’re going to have to save up if you can’t even afford 200 for a chewie. Which is fine, you don’t need a gecko RIGHT NOW, especially if you can’t afford it. Save up and get a chewie or leachie. Or just get a 50$ crested.
