Wonderful and thorough review Bino. Thanks for sharing and I learned all that I was looking to learn, as usual with your opinions. The silver ivy is on its way too me as I type👍😁
I just bought this rope two weeks ago mainly because I heard it was good for both SRS and MRS. I’m glad to see you have the same opinion on it that I heard from others. Looks like I made a good purchase.
That's awesome, I've been looking at new rope it is between drenaline and the silver ivy, I didn't realize the drenaline stretches that much as Im a heavy guy too! Thanks for sharing and all you do, top notch videos!!! God bless
This was a very useful video for the 11.7 team. There is still some yale ivy rope available out there. And Sampson Fusion or Hyperclimb are good for a try. For my raw on-bark MRS climbing needs I want a 16 strand strong rope. I choose Notch Sasquatch 1/2 (12.8), a highly underrated strong tree line that acts like a rope (7.9klbs). I myself like a nice strong full rope in my hands, it's just goodness. It does run fine in a number of devices. Check out the Spider Jack if you want to mechanize the Sasquatch. Hey Bino much love from a Groundie.
Great review. Thanks! I love to see one of the "Big" guys in the tree. I'm a sexy 259#'s before I get dressed. Over 300#'s in the tree with gear. My system has to be efficient... The three Ivy ropes are on sale today, and I'm ordering.
That Silver Ivy reminds me of the feel of the Samson Predator 11.4mm line. Thats what i like about it & the hitches 😅 really grab on it. But ive been using an olive drab 9.5mm Sterling rope which is more static. I like it since 75ft. of it is much lighter than the Samson but the feel on the Samson is really nice due to the feel. Both lines need the right hitch to make them work.
Bino your late, I purchased the drenaLine 11.8mm two weeks ago and just got it, had you posted this video then you would have swayed me to go the Samson route, but I’m glad to hear and see the Ivy and drena are comparable, I do both ddrt and mrs, when the time comes to get a different line I’ll go get some ivy, by the way who do buy from if your willing to say? thanks again for the time you invest into the content you provide us.
You made a Great buy with the Drenaline. It only slipped when I used in with a figure 8. It is very nice to work with. I buy most of my tree grear from bishco.com/ they are here in So. Cal. take care!
hey Bino, do you think ayou could try sterling scion in the future? got 200ft as my first long climb line, I love it, although in SRT it is a tad bouncy but after a few ascents you get used to it also, how are you liking your roperunner? I want to get one soon
@@BinoH Twenty four strand I believe. I'm in the market for an 11.8 to 12mm line. Twenty four strand, supple and knot able. It'll be used mainly for M.R.S and occasionally for an S.R.S access line....🤔
Great video. Sherrill makes this rope sound better for false crotch, friction saver, and mechanical usages, than for rope-on-wood applications. Being a double-braided line, I can understand that. I ordered one and plan to use it as a climbing line. When you climb with this rope, do you find that it holds up when tying into natural crotches, or do you have to baby it by using a friction saver?
Hi Bino, do you have a video showing how to climb SRT using a s Blake's hitch on a split tail? I started climbing SRT a couple months ago using a Rope Wrench, Hitch Climber Pulley and two different hitch cords, but sometimes I miss the simplicity and dependability of the Blake's hitch which I've only used on MRS. Thanks for another great video.
Hi I'am watching your videos and I like it and that's why I would like to recommend a nice rop for you. Courant squir v2 rope is what I love Excellent quality and comfortable climb with Try it and you will be happy with it Have a lovely day 😉
@bino h how much do you weigh? so i know how to judge what you are say compared to my own weight at 210 buck naked. thank you for all the great knawledge you are sharing with the world. have you seen any of Buckin Bully Ray's youtube videos? he is old school wood man from bc, canada! west coast ol logger turned tree climber, and is an all around great human being.
What you recommend for pulling trees over to control the direction of the fall the best? Is there a rope that's good enough or you just about have to just use a cable if it's leaning at all?
BinoH .. its been a while since you made this video and back then your impressions were made on a new rope .. so I'm wondering if you still feel the same way about its universal nature for static and moving rope system .. assuming of course that you have used it a lot since you made the video
The Silver Ivy works great for me on MRS and SRS when I use the Rope Wrench. On the Rope Runner Pro it was working great but after some time it started creeping and kept on creeping even after I adjusted it but if I use RRP MRS it works well.
@@BinoH thanks for that clarification .. hmm .. so are you switching to another type of rope for SRS in order to use the RRP? Or are you sticking to the Silver Ivy but using another multicender or rope wrench?
Hi bino, I'm curious as i have bought the Samson ivy rope to use with my rope runner pro, my rope runner tends to flatten out the rope and slips. What setting were you using the rope runner on? and when you use the rope runner does your rope flatten out? is that normal? It might be the greasy feel of the rope when its brand new, but i wanted to find out if its my device that is faulty. cheers
@@Jamie-vp2yb I'm curious too as to whether BinoH uses some other device to the RRP on the Silver Ivy .. or instead uses another rope for SRT. What's better ..2 ropes, one for SR and one for MRT with one mechanism that works on (both) .. as clearly the RRP has limitations on the Silver Ivy for SRT Or 1 rope for both SRT and MRT and some other means to the RRP for switching between the two?
@@tuberider1171 I like a rope that you can use for both because I change it up all the time depending on the situation. I liked the rope runner because it was so easy to go from drt to SRT and vice versa. I'm back on the prusik with the Knut hitch and rope wrench and quite happy with it. Not as smooth as the runner but I can still send it from a branch. I just hate the way the runner flattens the rope I might wait a little longer for my ropes to puff up. Also to note about the Ivy, I just recently did a big tree with most of the rope out. Discovered that the ropes sheath milked a fair way down. I looked at a sheriltree vid on it and followed the advice. After milking it more the ropes alot tighter and less squishy( holding its round shape) so I'm sure the runner will like that better. Cheers
@@Jamie-vp2yb thanks for the feedback and advice .. much appreciated I found this advice from Dan the Climbing Arborist to be pretty informative ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-clj3AVacCbM.html This one from Dave at WesSpur is also another great resource ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NqpsaO0UhXU.html I'd like to see BinoH do a similar one to these where he goes thru all the ropes he's used just to get another expert's opinion
I'm having a problem with new Silver Ivy getting out of round using a RP280 Rope Wrench with 8mm hitch cord and a hitch climber pulley. I have milked the rope from one end to the other and it is still out of round. I have never had this problem with Yale 11mm Blaze. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks, and the best to you.
I only weigh 130 LBS soaking wet. Can I get by with just using paracord? Just kidding, (except about the 130#). Honestly, I am in the market for a new rope. My current one is 40 years old. The only thing I use it for is a backup to my flipline and to rappel out if I get too tired to finish the tree. The most important attribute I require, is a high viz color to help me keep track of which is which. In the realm of luxury rope, I would wish for one that changed color at the mid-point.
@@BinoH I’ve never climbed with manila, started out on safety blue, then went to Yale Cordage XTC. Had a older gentleman that climbed with manila rope until he passed away at the age of 77. He said he was never comfortable with the stretch of polyester.
@@olehemlock That's amazing! You might like to see a video by ISA (Legends of Arboriculture) It's a cool video. on RU-vid you can find it on the ISA channel. take care!
