Hey Doc. I just subbed to your channel. After watching a few of your videos in their entirety in the last 24 hours, I purchased both your courses and will go though them over the next few days. I just completed a clean ADF and I am on my feast day. I will roll this into another ADF. In the last 58 days (which included Thanksgiving and Christmas), I lost over 22 lbs using many different protocols, many OMADs, a 70 hr fast, a 48 hr fast and now an ADF (36 Hours). I am documenting EVERTHING. So excited I came across your channel. This will sound crazy buy ADF maybe my sweet spot and will transition to 5:2 when I get with 12 pounds of my weight.

Wow thank you so much for this video. I have been ketovore since last August and have struggled with sleep the whole time. I need to do more fasting and want to start ADF but I know my sleep gets even worse, maybe 4 hours per night max. I have mild anxiety symptoms and high cortisol for sure, so knowing the methods of action for these supplements helps a lot. I take several of these supplements but maybe not all at the right time, like I take L-Theanine in the morning to calm my high morning cortisol, but I should also take it at night or try different nighttime aids. I have a plan of what to try and will be methodical about it, and it's good to know that some of these take a while to work like Silexan and Ashwagandha. Thank you so much for all the work that went into this!

I must be lucky when it comes to sleep- even in the 7 day dry fast I recently did I was still sleeping 6-7 hrs a night unbroken towards the end. I think with your previous advice I've just got myself a good solid routine now and maybe my circadian rhythms are working well...
@GrowGrayMatter
@GrowGrayMatter 9 месяцев назад
That is great to hear :). Your sleep routine is the key. Supplements are just the icing on the cake for sure. I went out of town with my wife a couple of weeks ago. I decided to try an experiment and skip all of the sleep supplements that I typically take. I slept great. I feel like they were a huge help for me in the beginning, but they become less and less important as your body adapts to fasting. Keep up the great work :)

Hello Doctor, Thank you for your informative RU-vid channel. I have been fasting for a while. Falling to asleep is one of the problems. Now I am experiencing hair loss. Is there any suggestions or supplements can you help me with. Thank you.

L Theanine and surprisingly, CBD really helped alot with sleep onset for me, taken with ginger tea. ALL forms of Magnesium causes me alarming digestive issues, even glycinate. So I eat spinach and pumpkin seeds on eating days.
@GrowGrayMatter
@GrowGrayMatter 9 месяцев назад
I have never tried CBD, but L-Theanine is a game changer for lots of people. I will keep an eye on the CBD/Sleep research and add that to my course (or future videos) if it continues to look promising. I am sorry to hear about your issues with magnesium. That is how I am with potassium. I can handle 1000 mg of magnesium per day, but I have the same "alarming digestive issues" if I supplement with more than 300 mg of potassium. It is not fun. I am glad that you have found what works for you :)

Hello Doctor, Thank you for your informative youtube about the sleep and fasting. I been fasting for a while with 16/8 time frame. Always been a struggle with the sleep. I use melatolin spray, it works sometimes. I am thinking of taking the glycinate. I am having trouble with loosing hair. Can you suggest any supplements or anything I can do to address this problem? I am taking the biotin 10,000mmcg for a month, still bit slow to see any change.

Melatonin gives me nightmare... Like really funny, unexplainable nightmare
@justinmireau9150
@justinmireau9150 8 месяцев назад
Serotonin gets methylated (+CH3) into melatonin at night. If you methylate well taking that melatonin will shift the methylation to something else. That might be why your having the nightmares. Try 5-htp which is a serotonin precursor. You will convert to serotonin and then melatonin. You might get a different sleep experience.
@GrowGrayMatter
@GrowGrayMatter 8 месяцев назад
Well said. It would be neat to see how they do with 5-HTP for sure. Do you take it yourself?
@GrowGrayMatter

I am sorry to hear this. This is why it is so hard to make blanket recommendations about sleep supplements. Everyone respond differently, so trial and error is the only way to find the right supplements for you. My wife is another great example. She does terrible with melatonin. She does much better with a lavender supplement. But I have worked with several people who have terrible dreams when they use lavender. I hope you find what works best for you. Keep me posted :)

Do you take these on fasted days and does it have an effect on autophagy

Here’s a question for you: if part of your fasting time is at night, and you need to take sleeping aids, but the sleeping aids contain rice flour, are you then breaking your fast due to the carbs in the rice flour?
@Snowsea-gs4wu

Sorry to jump in, the filler in a supplement should be less than a gram or even less than 500mg so that should have no impact. Even a couple of grams and up to, say, 10 grams should have no impact as well. Hope this helps!

Hi Doc, another great video as always… I have got supplements in powder form but they contain a bit of glucose .. It is isotopic electrolytes.. Is that okay .. it instructs to take 2 scoops .. which is one serving.. I usually take 1-1.5 scoops in 24 hrs during ADF.. plus c it contains Kalium and potassium and magnesium and others Is it k good having bit of glucose in electrolytes .. 1 serving is any 25 grams of glucose ::2 scoops
@GrowGrayMatter
@GrowGrayMatter 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for reaching out. Sadly, 25 grams of glucose is quite a bit. It would be an ok supplement to use on your eating days (unless you are low carb), but I would look for something else for fasting days. This video covers the products that i use. None of them contain any glucose: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ciU8TV9Wsn0.html

Thank you so much. But does this mean that I can take supplements during the fasting phase and it won't break the fast? I have my last meal between 6 and 7pm but "try" to sleep much later.
@GrowGrayMatter

You are very welcome. This is a very important topic to me, so I am always happy to hear when someone finds it valuable :). This is a great question. I have a couple of important thoughts: 1. Most sleep supplements will not impact your fast at all. It is generally accepted that you can take any supplement as long as it doesn't contain calories, carbs, or protein since these are the things that break a fast. The only one on this list that would be in a gray area is glycine since it is an amino acid. You may want to avoid that one if you are clean fasting, but 3 grams of glycine should not have an impact on your fast at all. The key amino acid that breaks a fast is leucine, and even then, I have never seen a study that showed that less than 10 grams of an amino acid breaks a fast. 2. But, just for fun, let's say that sleep supplements do have a minor impact on fasting. I would still recommend that you take them if they help you get better sleep. Why? Because good sleep is foundational to our weight loss and metabolic health efforts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uw_CHTiN1LU.html And, good sleep enhances autophagy more than a few supplements could ever decrease it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UhS_-i8N7vY.html 3. Perhaps you will just need these sleep supplements as a temporary aid to get you sleeping better. Most people start to see an improvement in their sleep over time while fasting. You may be able to wean off of these supplements and go back to a strict fast after a few weeks. I hope that this helps. I can tell by your "try" comment that you are not getting the sleep that you need at this point.
