Ok. This channel is getting better and better! Those transitions? My jaw dropped! Excellent work editor! And as always Alex is absolute blast! This is an absolute gem in the LMG portfolio.
im still driving my G80 electrified and love it to bits, things a dream, just like my four door sedans over suv esque, i didnt even know there was an electric gv70 yet
The one thing to keep in mind about the charging speed on the E-GMP vehicles, they sustain whatever power a charger is able to deliver for longer. I have an EV6 and I'm always astonished by how fast it charges on "slow" dc chargers. For example, the 150 kw chargers from EA. It will just sit there and charge between 150-170 (not sure why they go above 150kw) up until 80%. Mine never throttles down. Then...this is something that I think needs to be talked about more. It sustains high speed until 100%. Even at 97%, I was still able to get 50kw. Their e-gmp platform is just incredible.
I wish there were more non-SUV electric cars period. Feels like everyone is making SUV sized ones because its easier to just jam it full of batteries. It also feels like nobody's trying to make efficient motors, leading to the need to increase power density.
Finally, another owner! I can also easily get 270 in Eco mode with level 2 regen braking. But usually I just charge to 80% and use comfort drive setting. I agree, the available colors are too limited and boring! The gas version has really cool colors ☹️
@mattd1201 how do u prepare battery for charging now that weather has become cold? I noticed it took time to do fast charging for a while before it sped up, now in cold weather
@@user-nn4og1pf3p while i’m aware of BYD, Xpeng and Nio, they are still struggling to break into the European market while Genesis’s sales are up by 22%. Clearly Genesis is doing something right. I’m just a fan of Hyundais design bro. Their new N Vision 74 and their Ioniq 5 are gorgeous cars to me.
Confusing handling for grip, grip is how fast you can go round a corner, handling is what happens when you exceed that grip Impossible to test handling on a public road though Maybe swap handling for ride?
Minor critique, you put the freedom units on the screen for money but not for the distance. Please consider adding miles conversion as tag as well. TY.
I'm so annoyed that we've moved so far from practical features like physical controls (or any controls that work) that combined with a decent spec list they become the main selling points of a car 🙄 Love the reviews as always though!
Glad to see Alex is back with his EV reviews. He is in my opinion one of the best. Not bias, nor influenced. I'll take his video over any modern Top Gear. Speaking of, very nice camera work you have there. Very clear and stabilised. Kudos for the filming team.
Cool seeing Alex talking about the possible next trending for EVs: solid state batteries. Shows a bit of care for the technology he's reviewning, not just a "read the script". Congrats, guys!
solid state battery is still a "dream" , instead there's already the solution, Litium Iron Phosphate, more charge cycles, doesn't explode, needs less armor, so there's more batteries and range vs the current lipo solution in cars and bikes.
@@stevewang They are almost just as bad, especially when there are hundreds of them packed in a small space. However, they are a lot harder to get going though. Pretty much any high energy density battery will be due to the laws of physics! Thunderf00t has a good video about why.
@@linuxguy1199 lifepo4 doesn't have extra oxygen so it isn't self sustainable fire. It's a LOT BETTER, even compared to gasoline cars. packing too much is just the stupid engineering...a problem no technology can help. given they are less explosive, engineering a swap system is more possible, so less packing cars up with a ton of batteries, making less weight on shorter travels.. if they want. bikes especially, since a bunch of people already died from burning ebike repair shops. also a better solution that works and solves a major issue now is still better than WAITING for something ideal to hopefully make it to production. The current lipo needs to be banned from cars and bikes.
@@stevewangI can't wait for ev battery technology to have been continuously evolved in refined for 80 years like gas engines have. But you know what would be better than anything you mentioned? Batteries that are actually renewable, and aren't made from rare earth minerals. That way we wouldn't have to worry about running out of the resources to make them.
Yeah, I don’t get why manufacturers reinvent the car for an EV. Just swap the powertrain, improve areo and efficiency. adding touch controls and removing buttons just makes it Feel like a shitty knockoff Chinese tablet
Seems like production quality is definitely improving and is great, but guys can you high pass filter the audio (80/90hz)? The rumble from the inside of a car is so loud.
3:18 to me it looks more like semi capacitive buttons ( the capacitive part is like select and then push the whole button in to activate. So you have to actually push it so you can't accidentally push a button you didn't mean to witch I like )
Would be also good if weights were in kilograms so normal people who follow standard scientific units can understand. Don’t worry america you’ll get there one day!
Alex is the reason I watch car reviews here. I can’t wait for Alex to be on the car channel when it arrives, he’ll kill it. Ps- hope to see your gti on there too :p
I really don't understand cars. How are the lights not standardized? I've seen turn signals in all sorts of colors and shapes and locations... that isn't safe.
As someone with the Ioniq 5 and in 6 months I clocked 29,000 km, with multiple roadtrips, I can safely say that great EVs are already here and we don't need solid state... A couple of weeks ago we came back from a 9,000 km roadtrip from Vancouver to Denver, Colorado and back. No issues, at all, most times the car was waiting for us to come back from our bathroom/lunch breaks since we could go from 10% to 80% in ~18 minutes. Also, the Ioniq 5 cost us less than the CX-5 that my father owns... All while saving us $425 per month on the price of gas, while cutting our emissions by 98.5%! I have spreadsheets where I calculated all of this, lol
380km range is actually more than enough, if you drive fully charged from home, then it's about time for a toilett brake when it's out of juice anyway. And a toilet brake and a hot dog usually takes 10-20 minutes at the gas station anyway, so why just extend it a couple of more minutes until it's around 80%. then continue from there?
@@RathOX it fulfilled the criteria for a short circuit, but I agree, I want longer, more in depth videos about car technology. Not the same riprap that every car reviewer does. I think it would be interesting to
@@Holt0216remember how pretty much every single one of their problems stemmed from making too many videos at once? Careful what you wish for. All the way do agree that having more in-depth videos would be nice, as long as they keep it to that and don't actually make more videos, we'll be good.
Nghhhhh Knoooooobs, I honestly don't need a super fancy infotainment system. If I have my music and the navigation system is readable, I'm alright. No need to watch netflix in my car on the infotainment screen.
The worst part about the gv70 is being at a 'genesis' dealership, which is really a hyundai dealership, which is probably really a chevy dealership that didn't make enough money.
So I used to work for Hyundai/Genesis and basically every EV they make has the same issue, the ICCU will eventually over heat and start a fire or just kill the iccu. Pretty sure they are working on a recall for it tho
Isnt ANC in a car like extremely dangerous? What if something happens outside in a dead spot and the ANC decides It's just noise? You could get hit without the capacity of preventing it
i don't know why you guys talk about the weight in imperial units and the range in metric units, make up your mind! other than that, i love your car reviews!
Some of the b roll test roads look really similar to what you see in throttle house. I'm American and don't know the terrain of southern Canada all that well, or the location of each channel's base of operations, but it's just a small observation.
I'd love to know if the cars you review have a USB port that can be natively used for putting your music on them. I don't want another subscription, and I've been using a USB key for all my music for well over a decade now... And that's one of the things about the XC40 Recharge (which I've been considering in part because of your review) that you guys haven't mentioned - it needs a third-party app (BandWagon I believe?) to play music from a USB drive... because Google doesn't believe in natively supporting it in Android Automotive, apparently. Otherwise, great content as usual. Shame about that range tho. :X
My car has wired android auto but there are wireless adapters available. After a week of going wireless, I've gone back to wired since AA + navigation destroys my battery.
Video Suggestion? I've always understood the general rule when charging a mobile/cell phone, that it's supposedly best to charge it from between roughly 20-80%. But is it worth doing a video on whether this applies to ALL? types of Batteries. EG:- Is charging your Dyson Vacuum Cleaner battery to fully charged for hours on end bad. Is charging your brand new electric scooter to 100% bad. Is charging your brand new electric vehicle parked in your garage overnight to 100% bad for it's type of battery???. Or is there actual different rules for different "types" of batteries???
For the rest of the world, can you please tell us what the power output of the vehicle is in kilowatts as well? Makes even more sense to use that unit of measurement in the EV world.
I've complained about Alex's car reviews a bit in the past videos but this one is really good. Wouldn't mind getting explanations to high speed rebound for the normies. Or at the speakers with the "phantom image", no idea what that is. Very well done 🤝
Rebound is half of damping when the shock is extending. Really I was just talking about damping in general, which is the part of your suspension that stops the springs from just bouncing forever. Low Speed Damping: Smooth loads on the suspension like accelerating, braking, cresting a hill, or going over a large dip. High Speed Damping: When the suspension needs to move quickly, typically when you hit a bump. Got the GV70 it has soft Low Speed Damping, for instance it really squats when you hit the gas and rolls into corners, but it also has stiff High Speed Damping, so bumps get transmitted into your butt. Phantom Image is basically where you see the sound coming from when you close your eyes. With a really good sound system you'll hear the singer directly in the middle, with the instruments panned left to right each in a distinct location. If there is no phantom image the sound just sounds like it is coming directly from the speaker.
I hope the SUV trend dies off soon. I would love to see proper wagons again, they are for one , much better, have more room and weigh less. Also its quite paradox to design an EV, which is meant to be environmentaly friendly but make it a SUV which needs WAY more ressources than necessary. It would also increase range if you dont drive around dead mass. And we need more hatchbacks, something actually achievable for regular people. Besides, i dont get the craze with range, i dont know how it is in the US, but the average german drives 12,5km per day, so why bother having a car with 600km range if you can charge your car in around 20 minutes to 80% ? So 380km is more than enough for the majority of people, i mean you get some Wagons with 450km range anyway. Other than that, its quite okay, but pricewise still ridicolous.
Why is it that every car that has wireless charging is limited to wired android auto/apple carplay? I had a 2022 Hyundai Elantra that had wireless phone connection, but only wired charging. I got a 2023 model one trim up for the same payments and I got wireless charging but lost the wireless connectivity I wanted. It's so frustrating
compared to other dedicated channels such as Fully Charged Show, ShortCircuit seems not to be up to the standard in terms of the EV review. Genesis is barely a mediocre, if not disappointing EV compared to Tesla and Nio
I *hope* that its ANC is tuned to consistent sounds, like road & wind noise. If it's somehow tuned to block out irregular sounds (car horns, bike bells, human voices) they've fucked up massively
@@Collin_J I wouldn't mind blocking of excessive sounds, but we both know which one it is. Cars are already sound isolated, relying on distracted driver to pick up visual cues. This is wrong.
