To repair your current plane - consider using a bearing retaining compound to repair the threads. In particular, loctite 660 is specifically designed for worn assemblies. It wont come out without heat though.

No blade sharpening montage? Are we supposed to believe you lovingly restored an old treasure like that and did not sharpen the blade? Com’on James do better……never mind I just got to the 9:30 mark, where you were sharpening the blade……my bad…..I knew you wouldn’t disappoint us. Great job.

How can I find the stencil or at least the plane model to make this classic handle? 🤔 PS. Possibly the best paint job I've ever seen 😁👍 But seriously, why you do not happy with blue japanning?

I usually use the templates from Lee valley. assets.leevalley.com/Original/10090/56664-stanley-number-3-and-number-4-plane-tote-c-07-e.pdf The problem with color japaning is that it never quite sets the same way as black. It's always a bit softer and the color isn't as vibrant as you want it to be. In the end it's just not quite as durable as black Japanning

@@WoodByWright Thank you so much for providing the link for the templates. I've recently also made a template of modern Lee Valley handle (from his custom planes) but adjusted for an old record plane, it is way longer on the bottom because of the second screw. Will see how it'll work out

Ya. There are a lot of old recipes but I still have not found one I like.

@@WoodByWright yeah uhm, I guess I'm not into concocting solutions and all. I usually use A Plane Life black but I want Hunter Green sometimes. Probably best to stick with krylon high heat paints... with self-etching primer of course. 😁🤙
