From the website: Why not 100% Merino wool? We actually use a 90% wool blend for the majority of our sock. But we use a nylon reinforcement on the heel and toe for greater abrasion resistance and durability. Plus, we use additional Spandex in the shaft of the sock for compression (and to help our socks stay up for 14 hours straight). So in the parts that really matter for sweat wicking and comfort (the shaft, the top of the foot, and the ankle) our socks are 89% wool. But at the heel and toe where your boots make the most impact on your socks, there's a much higher % of nylon so you don't get holes. That's why we can offer a 10-year durability guarantee that a lot of people think is crazy.

100% wool would fall down to your ankles and if you are wearing western boots that would be super annoying.

More a question than a comment. I have other Marino wool socks made by GoRuck, which I wear hiking. I like them, but they are abrasive and really tear up my heels. Are the Camel City socks....smoother? I have considered getting a pair before, but my other socks have put me off Marino Wool.

Great question. I don’t have any experience with the GoRuck socks, but I haven’t had any discomfort on my heels from these.
