The BEST Sprites of Each Generation Pokemon Crystal Clear Let's Play: • Pokemon Crystal Clear ... BGM: Intro - Virbank City - BW2 Sprites Discussion - History - Sonic Mega Collection Outro - Tutorial - Sonic Adventure 2
I remember Gen 1 Blastoise sorting feeling like a mob boss or heavy with his buffed out chest and intimidating face, looking like someone who shouldn't be messed with.
You know what would be interesting? If they used the "multiple versions" for something more than simply having version exclusives. What if one version was in 3D models and the other was in 2D sprites?.
I really liked Hitmontop's old sprite. Where it was on it's head like well, A SPINNING TOP! It was called HitmonTOP for a reason! Why is it standing in 3D now?!
Great video, and Mystic...meet a fellow brother who loves gen II sprites. Gen II was my last generation I got to play, before losing majority of sight in my left eye. These are my favorite sprites/animation from Crystal: Suicune Raikou Heracross Mantine Chinchou/Lanturn Ampharos Aerodactyl Lugia All five Eeveeloutions(I wholeheartedly agree with your comment for Umbreon comment, and it doesn't help because in the song Born to be a Winner, you see Umbreon's intimidating red eyes, as it begins to use Hidden Power.) If they went with the above statement for both Espeon/Umbreon...that would have been awesome and terrifying, since their popularity was hyped at the time. I also like the Cyndaquil line, starmie, the Horsea line, Lapras, Dragonite, Hitmontop, and Pineco/Forrtress.
Glad I grew up playing Japanese green version and played red and blue and in the 90s. Man being a kid back then, link battles, game sharks, so nostalgia.
While you should do the Worst Design Sprites of Pokemon from each Generation, I think I another video idea you should do is Best & Worst Sprites for Pokemon Trainers of Each Generations. That would be very interesting to see!
I think GSC is the most aesthetically pleasing because each Pokemon sprite is limited to two colors and black and white. Sometimes I see artists draw Pokemon with the limited color palette and they usually look great.
Enjoying all your recent videos, Mystic, but wanting a best team Gale of Darkness. Along with No Restrictions for the Johto Remakes and Ultra Sun/Moon.
Red/Blue Nidoking and Nidoqueen are actually a highlight for me. They’re particularly stand outs of really good quality when a lot of the sprites were still a little odd
God, how much I Iove Golbat's gen 1 sprite... Mewtwo was incredibly cool, too. I remember the mindblowing feeling when I started pkm crystal and discovered the sprites were now (then) animated. I... no, stop, nostangia is killing me !
the sprites and overall gen 3-5 aestetics are reason why i play mainly romhacked gen 3 games like ultra violet, that lets' you use all pokemon from kanto to hoenn in firered playthrough. Another one is pokemon Quetzal, game that lets me use every pokemon that was ever listed in pokedex. It contains every pokemon from gen 1 to gen 9 implemented into emerald story with mega evolution Z-moves and gigantamax mechanics.
Imagine how good a pokemon game would be with sprites these days. No 3D, just 2D like in the old times. I think such a game would be one of the best because they couldn't screw things up with bad graphics^^
It is just my OPINION: the traditional main-series games should have kept sprites, and they should have put all the 3D energy into spinoffs like Legends: Arceus. Yes I understand legends arceus is a main series game, but it’s like main series with an asterisk.
Gen V style sprites. I feel like that's when the art style peaked. Admittedly Gen III's art style (sprites and all) is one I will forever regard fondly, but I still feel like Gen V was the best.
Go ahead and create that video on the worst from gen 1 to 5. Gen 1 has plenty to pick from with Green. Though Mewtwo in Pokemon Red/Blue is attempting to be an ape. Porygon doesn't really look correct in Pokemon Yellow. Blastoise is chubby; including his/her shell, in Red/Blue. Not to mention erroneous decisions with Kakuna, Cloyster, Koffing, Kingler, and Exeggcute in Red/Blue. Sadly generation 2 didn't really do much to fix the in-game designs of the Machop family. Skarmory has an unusual beak and the later on discarded double tail feature before Crystal. Houndoom in Pokemon Silver looked rather unusual. Smoochum is unusually mean. Raikou in Gold and Silver lacks the refinement of the Crystal sprite. Some of the gen 1 Pokemon in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald look off. Nosepass doesn't really resemble the ones elsewhere. Swampert looks unusual in generation 3. Skarmory would look generally strange until Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Rayquaza's mouth is rather off. I feel that Platinum improved on nearly all the sprites from Diamond and Pearl. Like Gliscor, Infernape, Shinx, Drapion, and Magnezone. Sadly, though, Empoleon in Platinum is a rare exception. Heart Gold/Soul Silver has some rather good sprites. That said, Blastoise feels unusually chubby; more akin to how he/she was like in Red/Blue; though not as bad. Sadly Muk's sprite is not too good here. Generation 5 has really good sprites overall. That said, Black Kyurem doesn't seem right in sprite form. The genies in their incarnate forms look not all that good in neither artwork form nor sprite form. Eelektross looks like he/she is standing on the ground; which is not supposed to be the actual case. When it comes to shinies; shiny Weavile and shiny Espeon are really bad to look at.
Yeah I really love Charizard's HGSS sprite. I think it's a massive improvement over his DPP sprite where he's just hunched over and looks awkward. His HGSS sprite however has him triumphantly stand tall and proud like the mighty and ferocious dragon he is (only to get destroyed by a small pebble and is not even a dragon type, lmao), and I'm really disappointed they reused his DPP sprite in Gen 5 and not his HGSS one.
@@AutisticTomato26Exactly!!! Game Freak committed a crime using the DPPt Charizard sprite in Gen 5! God, what are they thinking??? HGSS’s Charizard sprite is near perfect! One of best of all Pokémon sprites! I still prefer Fire Red’s Charizard sprite, though!
The thing about sprites to me was that they always had cool dynamic poses and such With the 3d models they have like A boring idle pose and then a little move animation Sprites also meant that the moves themselves had more interesting animations
*"With the 3d models they have like A boring idle pose and then a little move animation"* Because it wouldn't look nice to keep 3D models standing still and/or always executing dynamic poses. It would feel weird and unrealistic. That is the limitation of going 3D. *"Sprites also meant that the moves themselves had more interesting animations"* Eh, I wouldn't say so. Most of the moves look the same, you just replace a little thing for another.
I really love all the new sprites they gave to the Kanto and Johto pokemon in HGSS. They're some of my favorite sprites in the series alongside Crystal and BW/BW2.
Red and Blue is borderline unplayable for me with how bad the sprites are even more so the back sprites. Yellow was a huge improvement but Gen 2 improvement was game changing and my favourite
I think charizard best sprite is definitely gen 5 he looks more menacing with that animation and pose. And from the back looks great too. I think I’d prefer gen 5 sprites as a whole there’s a lot more good than bad ones imo. I wish we did get another sprite based game based on gen 5 sprites. (FYI this is coming from a genwunner)
Gotta say, i grew up in gen and rank sun and moon as some of my favourites (in the minority i know) but yeah, me and my brothers are definitely team sprites haha
I kinda like original Mew. It looks way more alien, which helps portraying the original intention of Pokémon being releated to space in a more paranormal sense.
I’m starting to come to the side of going 3D was a mistake for Pokémon. We all wanted 3D but I really enjoy playing the older games. For example I love ORAS but I’d much rather play gen 3 because I feel the sprites add more personality.
