The BEST Square Filter System in 2022? NiSi V7 Filter Holder Kit Review and Tutorial.
Review of the NiSi V7 Square Filter Holder System, what's included in the V7 filter holder kit, how to install the V7 filter holder, how to use the V7 filter holder and a real world demonstration, followed by photo comparisons taken with different NiSi ND and Graduated ND filters, I also compare the results of different types of NiSi CPLs to demonstrate the colour and quality of the 'True Colour CPL' included in this kit.

I was excited when NiSi offered to send me this kit to review, but everything that I say of this product is my OWN opinion and NiSi doesn't get to dictate what I say or if this review is positive or negative. I only review products on this channel that I genuinely find interesting and could be useful for my audience.
Benefits of a Square ND Filter System: 1) Stack multiple filters without vignetting. 2) One set of filters for all your lenses. 3) Flexible use of graduated neutral density filters (vertical movement). 4) Ability to rotate all filters 360 degrees.
Some unique features to the NiSi filter hold kit that I love but didn’t mention in the video, first is how the holder holds the filters, it adds pressure to the sides/edges of the filters, keeping it in place securely, but allows the filters to be installed, adjusted and removed easily from the holder and drastically reduces the risk of scratching the filters, unlike other filter holders that grip the front and backs of the filters. Secondly, the hexagonal shape of the filter holder means it is easy to install and remove square filters from the holder, even with larger graduated neutral density filters installed in-front of the square ND filters. Finally, how quick and easy it is to install the CPL with the point to point design, it’s a lot quicker and easier than the previous version’s screw on CPL.

Nice video! May I have a practical question about storage and transportation regarding the V7 CPL? The adding and removal of the CPL looks really fiddly, esp. with gloves on, in harsh weather or in the dark. If I get a spare main adapter for use without CPL, how can i store and transport the one WITH the CPL in the camera bag? What's the size of that combo? Does it fit into a tin holder of the Lee stopper filters for example? Can the CPL fall off from the adapter while transporting? Thank you in advance!

Nice bit of kit to have in the bag. I saw F Stoppers doing the Nisi mist filter to make the video more cinematic, it do a great job but if you know how to colour grad the video footage then really no need for it, unless you have lights in the background then it works. But these ones you showed look and by the looks of it work really well. Nice work bud.

That’s cool, haven’t seen that as I don’t have many filters for video apart from a black mist filter and a few variable NDs. My landscape NDs are a bit more though and have tested quite a few variants. Thanks mate

For the solar eclipse (April 2024) I bought the Lee Solar filter and the Nisi V7 holder. I’ve never used a filter holder. Am I to loosen the screws to allow the Lee filter to slide in? I was told the Lee filter fits snugly.

Yeah, both CPLs did a good job at drawing out the blues in the sky, but the Ti Enhanced (which I have used a lot for landscape) adds more saturation, even to clouds which isn’t what I prefer. The true colour did a good job of keeping whites white. Thanks mate!

Great video Rauri, I'm using the NISI V6 at the moment and was researching whether to upgrade or not so this was timed perfectly. Square filters have always seemed like a bit too much of a hassle to me personally the best way for me is to use my polarised ray bans and just put them over the lens when I take a photo. Solid vid though mate!
@RauriBarron
@RauriBarron 2 года назад
Thanks a lot mate. I used to think so too, that’s why I’ve had screw on circular and magnetic in the past, but both have their cons. Screw on ones take so much time to install and remove (twisting for days!), whereas this you screw on once on your main lens and can leave on (with the lens cap), so the CPL is always there if need be, and then just clip on the filter system, I found it really fun to use (and quick) and felt like I was “creating” the final image more, than just “shooting away” aimlessly. Worth giving it a test, definitely converted me to square for some situations.

Hi, is there a risk of dropping cpl by rotating it, when used without filter holder ahead of it?
@RauriBarron
@RauriBarron 2 года назад
Not really, the main adapter screws on to the lens nicely, and the CPL rotates and locks into the main adapter really securely. It’s a really good CPL.

Been using Nisi filters for sometime now and I also recommend these to anyone who is into using filters. I have grads and full ND square filters with the Nisi Landscape CPL.I also use the Nisi reverse grad filter which is fantastic to use to control sky highlights along straight horizon lines. Yes,they are expensive for a full kit,I actually own 10 Nisi filters both grad and ND so the cost does add up. But highly recommend these filters.I have tried Kase,Lee and Haida filters and I find them not as good as the Nisi. Just my thoughts Good presentation Rauri on a subject which still should be talked about as a lot of people out there rely heavily on post production for filter effects.Using filters to me is PHOTOGRAPHY plain and simple. Wonder what their markup is? Price is unnecessarily obscene for some filters. It’s like manufacturers arbitrarily choose a 2000% markup on items that cost literally nothing to make. I just bought a small Lee Filters set for £500 and I know I’ve been swindled. Beginning to wish I’d bought this set instead.

Sure, cheaper options will do the job. But with bad colour implications and potential loss of sharpness. So if you’re selling your work it’s always good to invest in good filters, why use good camera and good lenses but then put cheap glass on the front of the lens and degrade the light coming into the camera? Just food for thought.
