Number 1 really hit home when I returned to PR after like 2-3 year long gap. One man just walks up to me and start talking about a random PR battle we both were in and he remembered my nick, had a good laugh remenicing and ended with "welcome back" and he blew us up with a nade.
Being a part of the PR community is like having a local pub you head to in the evenings. It's the place where everyone knows your name, or if they don't, they know someone who knows you. It's the bar where you pull up a seat, glance across the room, and see the characters and comedians that everyone's heard of. In the corner, some guy is ranting about flat earth with a crowd of people howling with laughter. Over at the counter the asset players are making vroom vroom noises and shaking their table. Some guy shouts allahu akbar and for a few seconds its all you can hear as people join in. You can hear someone calling for a medic from the bathrooms. And through it all, whether they know you or not, people will raise a glass with you in brotherhood, to a shared love of cowering in foxholes, dropping bombs on lazes, and shooting the shit in the quiet between fights! Played Project Reality from 2007 up to 2018. Your video’s want to make me plan the game again. We actually played together back in the day on occassion. As you mention it is quite a small and Unique community.
Played in 2015 or something, stopped playing because my PC broken now I'm playing every weekend or when I have internet in general, since my bad laptop runs it...

Regarding No3 point and "ex-soldiers", we can clearly see from recent events that apart from a handfull of monstrously trained western SOF, no the average soldier will not be trained to be able to come out of a sprint and land shots at range... So yeah, the game is very realistic in that department.
I think the main difference we've learnt now is that with the added adrenaline of being moments away from genuinely being killed or seriously injured in an actual full scale war between near peer modern armies. When you could have a drone above you about to drop a grenade on your head or have a tank or ATGM set up 2km away staring at you without you knowing. Fuck.
The problem here is that people rarely play for the team in PR (in my region at least). Everyone is just wandering around doing their own thing, so I feel left out.
I play a LOT of Arma 3, but I don't mind "older" games as long as they're fun. I grew up with ps1/ps2 so it doesn't bother me to look at graphically whatsoever. After 5 minutes of watching this I was sold & am now downloading it :) 28 factions is wild as well lmao
Alrighty I can't recommend this to new players. If you want to get yelled at by vets constantly for not knowing how to play properly, this is the game for you. I've come across some toxic fan bases before but this tops it. No one wants to help you unless they're also brand new. You WILL be kicked out of squads, called stupid, get teamkilled, and yell for medics plenty of times just for someone else to finally say once they arrive "I'M OVER HERE IT'S ME IT'S ME" to get revived instead of you. I really wanted to get into this, I enjoy the gameplay. Sadly it's genuinely one of the worst communities I've ever come across in gaming.
PR has a wonderfull brazilian comunity, a thing that i misse in similiar games. Not just a lot of people, its a lot of people playing the right way, tactical and teamplayed
I think I can say the same for spanish speaking players, there's a good quantity of facebook groups involving people playing PR, which is good for me, reading and writing in english is more easier than actually speaking it lol
I started playing Project reality 4 years ago and it has gotten me into Military or war styled games. Once i got a new good pc i have bought Arma. Without Project Reality ive would never got into MilSim games and im happy that i found Project Reality i made so many memories.
I've been playing PR for over 10 years now and it's the best game I ever played, the people are the best people you'll ever meet and they're very helpful towards newbies. Some of the friends I met playing PR I wound up meeting with in real life and even went to one of their weddings a year or two ago. PR is one of the best experiences I ever had in my life; not to mention the devs and community are super helpful. The shit talking and banter are unparalleled

I downloaded this just over a month ago. It's just the best, can't wait to get on this weekend. I'm just bitter about the fact I didn't find this game a long time ago. Since I'm over 30 I'm miffed as to why I never caught wind of this as this game is all I want from a playing experience.
I love the idea of this game. Large scale, grounded tactical military games like Arma are right up my alley. However, I much prefer singleplayer or being in a small squad of my friends vs being part of a large team. I always wished i could set up my own PR server for me and my friends so we could do Spec Ops missions as a small squad, or simply fill the rest of our team with ai. However, the devs unfortunately don't hand the servers out to just anyone. You need to apply to be able to run one. I get that they do this to keep the playerbase from splintering, but still. Its always whats turned me off, and its what has me hopeful for Operation Harsh Doorstop.
Seriously though I think this is the only game with such a strong community. Name another I challenge you. There are only 2 main servers that tend to fill up. HOG and PR Brazil. Sometimes Slorg's server will fill up but they're europeans so I usually don't get on there in time.
No.3 is really the main reason I never really liked Squad. With PR:s system, the firefight slows so there's time for the players to actually think and communicate before they are dead. In squad or other shooters, there's no reason to call out contacts or anything because it's just faster to shoot them yourself or you are already dead.
Hard disagree. That's not true at all in squad. Contacts are called out all the time. I call them out all the time. But In a CQB environment. Yes. It's quicker to shoot the guy RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU by yourself. Rather than call him out and make a WHOLE SQUAD ordeal. I don't get why you PR players think such a thing is unrealistic and unfun? Every soldier has a weapon. Not every soldier has a radio. His primary means of engagement is that weapon. He can't save anyone if he can't save himself Longer range fire fights. Yeah sure I get you. But 5-15 meters? No. Smoke that MF by anymeans. Why is that so sacrilegious to PR players? You're also acting like you can do both simultaneously. Like you can't hit push to talk to call him out while shooting at him. It's insane you all blame other tactical shooters short comings on that one feature. No. If someone's not communicating. It's not because it's for Easy kills(ive never seen anyone go on a one man halo 3 slaughter fest in squad, HLL, or post scriptum). It's likely they are new to tactical shooters and just don't know to communicate. They're used to battlefield And even then. The amount of mutes I squad that still follow and teamplay is impressive. Not the case in HLL.
Stumbled across this video which made me remember I already had PR installed. Had one of my best nights of gaming in a long time. I played a ton from 2007-2011, but took a long break due to life events. It was every bit of fun as I remembered.
Deviation ruins cqc. You will miss people 2-3 feet in front of you wether you ads or hipfire. it adds nothing but frustration when you’ve properly plan a breach and miss the guy around the corner because deviation isn’t your friend now you have to spend the next 15 mins waiting for a fob or rally otherwise it’s a 30 min walking simulator it’s a godsend if there is an actual medic present in deployment. One thing pr gotta do to incentivize medic play is to remove the ability to pick up the opposing teams medic kits some people(me) don’t use it because I don’t wanna be the guy whos kit helped rez the ill prepared opposing side
That community plug was heart wrenching and hit a little close, but I also play pr because of the great community and because I can shut my brain down and not have to think as much
The glorious bunker toilet defense, I omce got the exact thing you mention, everything went relatively chill in the bunker we defend, so chill we manage to help one of squadmate finish his short essay assignment
I remember playing this a lot back in the day! After playing battlefield 2042, where a main strat is flying to objectives deep behind enemy lines in a chopper full of 6 guys and capture a point in mere seconds without ever touching the ground, this old-ass game seems hella refreshing!
Started to play this when i was 15 in 2010, and i remember the ultra-janky pre 1.0 times with 2d scopes and even more deviation. It was 0.873 version of the game when i got to it, and it required an actual BF2 license to play, so i somehow found the CD of BF2 in a local disk shop only to install and play PR. I saw the article about PR in a russian gaming magazine, and itstantly got hooked by the description. This video is highly nostalgic, and i didn't play this game for years. Maybe i'm gonna hop back into it to learn some English.
just getting back into the game, when i first played it i was like 13 and was constantly not understanding the game, but after playing things like arma, ground branch, and squad i feel a lot better with the game, went back to it mainly because of the extreme diversity of different settings to play in, some days you wanna lay down some hate with an mg42, other days you wanna pop a few hajis in fallujah, i also appreciate that it actually has singleplayer, which more tactical shooters should really focus on
I LOVED PR!! Used to play around v0.5 when Squad was just a glimmer on the horizon. Can’t believe PR is still going as I tried squad and for whatever reason I couldn’t get into it. Going to download now and see if any of my old friends are still around. (And I bet some are!) And even if they aren’t, the game is looking pretty sweet now. So much content!!
About the bullet deviation, I think it seems very realistic considering footage I’ve seen from Ukraine of people missing targets right in front of them. I can’t imaging the adrenaline and nerves you’d be feeling watching a squad of men running at you to kill you.
I disagree with the “it runs on everything” and “squad required a £3000 rig”. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE pr. My friend has a mid tier gaming pc, though, and he has a hard time running it above 45 fps because of the fact that it doesn’t have multi core support. I actually get better frames playing Squad than playing Project Reality. No joke. I have a 1660 TI atm. I get an average of 80 frames on Squad flat out. PR? A hundred frames to begin with, but it quickly deteriorates to 40 fps when the match really gets going. I absolutely adore PR, but this really does get on my nerves a lot.
I used to play this like 13-15 years ago with a group of people from an online forum, had the greatest gaming experience of my life. The fact that you can now download this as a standalone and its still going has brought a warm funny feeling to my insides, guess I'm signing up again!

I took a break for a few years and tried the tactical shooter genre again with squad. Maybe i had some bad luck with servers or squads but i could never find anyone who was moticated to work as a squad or even communicate much. I redownloaded pr that night and havent touched squad since. Your last point is really what makes pr special

I'm a fresh blood in PR and I am a good squad lead already, I was approved by a vet :) also the problem with pr is that squad leads sometimes forget that they are a squad lead and the others have to do their job :) so yea I love this game ty for teaching me this game
Downloaded and installed on the back of your recommendation. I played for 10 minutes and it already seems enjoyable, so I'll give it a proper try next week as I won't have time this week or weekend.
Project Reality and Arma 3 are currently the only games I am playing on my 8 gb ram i3 potato laptop. I am glad both of them runs fine. In PR I spend 90 % of my time as an LAT RIFLEMAN.
You made me redownload so we'll see you in PR. I used to play the shit out of PR my main reason being, sure the graphics are "outdated" but at least I can see far distances without a scope, in squad far distances look blurry which means you have to have a scope in order to really see anything.

I have been playing PR for 4 years and most of the time I choose to be a squad leader. As a squad leader, I feel shy when I have to order that someone must defend the toilets in the bankers

Adding to the old age argument: if PR was not good, why would so many people play it all those (by gaming standards) eons (18 years or so)? Its age and vitality is (for me) a sign of a real gem not many other games (not only on milsim genre) dare to rival.
There are barely over 4-500 people playing. It’s worse than when Black Ops 2 was dying on dying consoles. So it died twice but still had more players than PR.
3:27 I wish squad had deviation in general. It is a real thing and would actually benefit gameplay by making players less "snipey". You can quickly aim after a full sprint perfectly at a target far away and headshot them because everyone has a freaking scope and a laser gun. I kind of wish guns had a realistic MOA to them or that there were fewer scopes available per team. It would make suppression more viable and infantry movement more important.
I really love the anxiety induced moments playing as a medic trying to review a bunch of people all saying "medic, here", realizing you don't have enough syringes for everyone and you just wasted one on a player who already re-spawned and you have 295 ping cause the only server in your area is empty. Still better then real life, lol.
I have been playing as a Medic all my PR life... enjoyed the community and really enjoyed this game as a whole, despite being old the Graphics still looks fine to me having played Bf2 since released I never really see it as ugly... A few shader mods will do so much... I will still play PR until no one plays it... or if anything comes into the level this game...
I suck at this game, however I've never been mistreated, flamed, or discriminated. Every member is friendly and up to teach newcomers... love PR, definitely the community is the best.

I remember finally getting gaming computer and being so excited to try Squad finally, but it DOES NOT scratch that Project Reality itch. I was hoping it would just be PR but with better graphics and updated physics but noooo sir. PR is GOATED.
PR all the way, but your take on the weapon deviation mechanic was something else..... It is one of PR's weakest mechanics. The way the system works right now is atrocious and massively over-exaggerated. Most other games are not as simple as you made them out to be. At least older BF tittles, such as BC2, BF3, 4 and 1 are not. Comparing with COD/Fortnite and other popular shooters is like comparing apples and oranges. They are completely different style of FPS games and have different goals. Those are games that go for "balance". Are we aiming for realism, or for "balance", or which ever suits our argumentation at a given time? There is really only one game that is a direct competitor to PR right now and that is Squad. PR has so many positive things going for it, as you have pointed out on many occasions. There is no need to glorify flawed mechanics and systems to make a point about how good PR is. If I was to take one thing from Squad to PR, it is the gunplay. Everything else would be a underdeveloped and buggy downgrade.
At the end of the day it’s his opinion and like most people in the pr community they don’t know what they really want. They want balance and yet thermals in the game have no counters. They want good games but they’ll switch teams if they’re on the losing side. Trynna get changes in this game is like pulling teeth with all the boomer players and devs better off screaming at a brick wall
Being able to overcome hindrance mechanics with personal skill IS enjoyable. Being restrained by the game period is already not fun, it's even less so when the game imposes hindrances that would either not be that big of an issue or not even exist in real life. When I'm more capable in the real world than my character is in a video game (unless it's an incredibly novel gimmick like you play as a snail or something) then the experience overall is more annoying than innovative. Again, this isn't necessarily a matter of "more realism=good" it's a matter of "less freedom=irritation". Being that this mod is so niche and that all of the opposite mechanics are found in mainstream AAA shooters (and even other tactical shooters) I think it's safe to say that most people across the board prefer less restrictive skill-based shooting mechanics and there's a reason for that.
I've started playing a tactical shooter. I had fun. I made friends. I've seen people get married. I've witness player die. I've witness a dude's divorce, and another of his divorce. Ive had a BLAST on PR lately, and I wish even more people would try to play it. A lot of people seem to argue that the graphics are bad, its a really old game or whatever but its great once you pick it up.
1. 0:50 PoV u joined a server found a sniper kit and got 1 kill. And the UK SAS hunt you down. 2. This bald man tell no lies. 3. Being an asset whore is a lifestyle. 4. Community is realy great sometimes i join only to speak and have fun with the boy's. 5. You ALWAYS kill more friendly dude with mines than enemy even they can't see a mine mark.
I actually think the aesthetics of project reality are much better than squad. Something special about it with how beat up and brutal it looks. Especially dirty and dark compared to squad.
