Great advice for beginners. The biggest rule I learned was keeping your fingers as close to the fretboard as possible. This way your fingers can play faster for later when your a pro. The person who taught me that trick was a classical guitarist and he was right. The biggest advice I give to my friend that I was teaching is to slow down. Beginners always want to play fast but slow is smooth and smooth is fast. I made my buddy play 4 notes per minute until every one of the notes was clear and crisp. This gives you time to look at finger placement, hear the note and fix anything. Also playing with an amplifier is nice but playing with no effects like reverb or no amp modeling does wonders. You can hear the mistakes better. anyone who does that will be a great musician.

Just wanted to say thanks and add what helps me a lot: improvising between the pauses. Whenever there's a long break in the song i just keep reusing the most common notes and play my own lines, or repeat the main riff until the band kicks back in. No need to wait for "them". Had some great results here and there. It's fun

Playing slow is the hardest thing to develop discipline to play slow. Growing up in the 80s, listening to Vai, Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, EVH, of course we all wanted to play fast with lots of effects. My teacher on the other hand made me lose all the effects, and play to a metronome (yes, with a physical arm that swings back and forth), and said, until I could play the full scale, all the way up and down, in every position, say for C, I did not get to go any faster than that BPM.

i got rocksmith because of your video, i was struggling trying to self learn but after a few days i can already see improvement. I think the best thing about rocksmith is it gives me motivation to practise guitar while trying to learn on my own was kinda boring

Hey Polar Bear! I totally agree. Practicing and trying to learn on your own was kind of boring until I played Rocksmith too. Once you learn some chords and songs practicing on your own is fun. The more you learn, the more you can experiment! Check out some of my "Fly On The Wall" videos. That's how I practice... just playing! Keep at it! Cheers!

Great tips! Here's some that I'm putting together so far from various people, including AKP. To access Riff Repeater - Use spacebar or escape when playing a song through Learn A Song. Riff Repeater difficulty - Set to 100% difficulty to see all the notes, but play at a slow speed. Learn Scales - Set up a scale in Session Mode and practice. Finger the fret - A good rule to follow is the "one finger per fret" rule. Use the Fret Stickers - There is a 2 sets of stickers for frets 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12 and 15 included. They are practically hidden in the box.

Thanks for this video and your advice. Been a bass player for almost 30 yrs. but, now I want to begin learning guitar. I got this game/learning aide about a week and a half ago and I'm loving it. Even with such a short time playing, I'm already beginning to memorize scales and modes. For what it is, I think it's a great alternative for those that might not be able afford a teacher/lessons. I use the bass mode for fun (and a bit of learning/polishing up/practice) but, the lead and rhythm guitar modes primarily for learning and enhancing. Any musician worth his salt knows there is always something new to learn or practice. During this time of self-isolation during this pandemic, there is no better time to learn to play an instrument. Music feeds and heals the soul and in this ever darkening world, music is always a bright light that can lead people into a better and cooler place if they just give it a chance. Nod in your direction...

Great tips. I got my guitar and started playing for the first time in my life in october and I bought Rocksmith 2014 at the start of december. Was getting bored pretty fast before i bought Rocksmith, didnt really know what to practice, since there is so much to learn, that i just got a bit overwhelmed. But its really easy to play a lot with Rocksmith, i've played it 223 hours, and the difference from when i started is massive. I also play without rocksmith, just hooked up to my amp. Only thing thats annoying about Rocksmith is the sound settings. I have to change all my sound settings to be able to play with exclusive mode turned off, so i can record my playing. And that fucks up my sound in other programs, so i have to change it, then change it back again so i can listen to my music that is in 24 bit 96khz quality

Wise words from a wise man! Music is universal Rock,HipHop,Classical, Heavy Metal,Funk & Rocksmith 2014 Remastered has sold me! I used to stick my nose up to this Game/Learning Tool. Finally I forked out and bought it. And i was astonished by the content that was contained in Rocksmith from the song selection to the mixer tool's! Simply amazing the only gripe and i have about Rocksmith is the DLC Content library is kind of weak as of 2019. And the fact that there is lag in the connection bewteen the guitar and software. What really gets me is the fact Ubisoft has had plenty of time to patch and fix this and still to this day has confirmed they have no intrest or intent of fixing the lag on thier forums. It's kind of sad when the company expects you to buy converters for audio and other products it's bad marketing and the reason i say this is they till this day will continue to add and update thier song library and sell them, but won't put out a patch that works properly. Otherwise i can't complain much i just wish i had this when i was growing up learning and playing guitar! Great informative video brother keep up the good work!

In my experience with rock smith so far was to first understand the game. What's all about.I think the key to rock smith is session mode. I used to get confused with the colors and frets when on learning a song mode. Session mode is good to muscle memory the string color, cuz the colors change when you playing on the scales and allows you to easy place your fingers on the right color. I focus more playing the scales by boxes (blues scales are the easiest ones to comprehend, dominate and to really express music phrases) Try that and play them at normal and at an octave higher for more feeling. That's my experience so far and it gets me to play for at least 2-3 hours without feeling obligated to grab my guitar, but on a wanting more every time need. Stick to the missions though.

When I was a teenager even, We didn't have stuff like this.. So the best thing was to hook up with some people that played also !!! I still highly recommend hooking up with other players!!! Because even though this software (Which I own too), Doesn't give the same vibe & feeling as playing with other people but gives the unexperienced guitar player the feeling of playing in Different Grooves & Scales !!! It was pretty sad there for a while till I got Guitar Smith because I had to resort to drum machines & even Keyboard drums !!!lol!!! I have a couple PC programs that do the similar Jam thing like Guitar Smith does, But was very touchy !! For example ... Jamstix was one of them !! You had to really sit down and figure it out before it did what you wanted it to do but is still a really good program!!! Started jamming & playing small shows when I was 10 !!! I am now 37 ... Where have the years went lol !!! Even had to resort to doing sound for other bands, Including an old late 80's band... HELIX !!! But even though (The Original Band), Collapsed because of Drugs then Eventually Death... I kept er alive & will hit that stage, ONCE AGAIN just like one of my songs!! You can youtube different versions over the past with different Musicians !!! ^Thanks For Sharing Your Thoughts & Experience.. Because you will be inspiring many others to Play !!! Thanks !!! DEv

David White Hey man, I would rather Burn Up, than to Fade away !!! Right now our living room sits mostly just with all my PA gear (Setup of course!!), Still get a good jam with the boys here and there !!! It is a shame really because when I was younger I wish I had not even half of what I do now & my closest Brother that played in our group had a Heart attack at 29 like 9 years ago now.. :( Hard to find people that wanna go for Gold any more!!! Most just wanna get messed up & have other people over instead of getting stuff down & doing Shows again!!! So RockSmith Helps me out here and there !! Get to play around and Jam without donating big chunks of my life for Groups that flake out now at around a 3 Year Mark... Just before you get out & do you thing!!! ROCK ON Bud !! DEv

Aaron (or anyone reading this that knows) HOW do I view all the songs? My version comes with the 6 bonus songs, HOW can I get to SETTINGS and browse (sort of get a feel of the ) game. I have the PC version. To be honest I think that they had problems with the PC version because they no longer offer the PC version - only xbox and playstation. Is there someplace where they have a LEGEND of how the keys on the computer can make the game do different things - like END session, or VOLUME, or get into SESSION, and other parts of the game. I also remember seeing a choice of screen resolution but can't find that anymore. IF anyone can help THANKS. As you can tell I just bought and installed it. Just now learning... LASTLY, if anyone had trouble installing the PC version with STEAM - Let me know. I figured what the problem is and happy to help you.

Should I be trying to memorize the chords and recognizing them by their name, or should I continue looking for the visual input of which frets to hit when it's scrolling by?
@AaronAKPParrish
@AaronAKPParrish 8 лет назад
Do EVERYTHING! if it helps! Also, pause the game at that point and practice the chord over and over until it rings out and you get it down. Then play the game. There's also a function in the game where you can see, play, and practice all of the chords in that particular song. Let me know if it helps! Rock on!

How’s your latency? I have a slight delay. Also, had a problem with Rocksmith recognizing my audio interface for output. Do you output through your interface to the studio monitors

what are some songs you would recommend for people who are easily discouraged?
@AaronAKPParrish
@AaronAKPParrish 7 лет назад
My suggestion would be to play the songs that you like first. Rocksmith has many songs from different artist and genres that you can download. Also use the Nonstop Play feature to play and automatically shuffle through the songs. You might find that you like to play songs that you had never heard before. I found myself liking many songs that I had never heard before. Sad to say but I had never heard of the Black Keys before Rocksmith but love their sound and enjoy playing their songs. Don't get discouraged. Keep pushing. Keep plucking and you'll be way better than you thought you ever could be. Good luck Zach! Stay in touch and let me know how you turn out.

is there a way you can tune your guitar for it to sound like the song your playing or do the game do that for you
@AaronAKPParrish

84reaper Sorry for the late response. You can go to the Tone Designer- Load Tone- Authentic Tone. Then choose the song that you want to load.

hey Aaron good vid man. good advice. I'm new to the rocksmith software but have been playing guitar for a while. any tips on playing the bends correctly? the game is very finicky about bending the notes and i'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
@AaronAKPParrish
@AaronAKPParrish 9 лет назад
Joel Hava Hey Joel! Sorry it took me so long to respond. Yes the bends are tricky. I have problems with them myself. I think practicing the bends away from the game would be the best way to perfect them. Use your ears and a tuner to get used to what the bend should sound like. I hope this helps.
@JoelHava
@JoelHava 9 лет назад
Aaron "AKP" Parrish honestly it makes me feel better knowing that u have also found the bends troublesome. I have since gotten a better feel for the way the game expects me to bend the strings. I think if anything i wasn't bending them far enough. the only other difficult thing is identifying 1/4 1/2 3/4 bends from one another in the game. thanks for taking the time to respond.
@KillerMZE
@KillerMZE 9 лет назад
Joel Hava You need to make sure the game picks up the unbended note before you start bending it. I used to miss most of the bends since I started bending too soon. Also try playing temple of bends at the guitarcade

KillerMZE i really appreciate the advice fellas! i also figured out that a huge part of my problem is that my guitar was not set up correctly. I just bought a modestly priced epiphone les paul special right before I got the rocksmith software. I'm not sure if i bought it with the intonation off, or if it was when i got rid of the factory strings and slapped a set of ernie ball hybrid slinky's on her. (the ernie ball strings were all different guages than the previous strings. idk if that would throw the intonation off.) either way once i set the intonation rocksmith became way more forgiving lol. aaaaand i also was originally using the hdmi sound output through the tv, which i knew was screwing things up. i was lucky enough to get hooked up with a set of JBL E-100's and a kenwood receiver that i am now playing through and woooooo hooooo she is rockin now! haha. rock on my brothers! thanks again. ps temple of bends is quite helpful too, and pretty fun. Peace

This game is really hard for me because i'm use to seeing fretboard and I play bass so I have to move long distance sometimes.
@FredrickTT

I'm a guitarist but my advice is like he says in the video a million times, you gotta keep practicing. Make sure you're using all your fingers when going up frets, but if you're going more than about five frets to hit a note on the same string, chances are the same not is somewhere else closer on a string below it. (Ex. Instead of going from G (3rd fret) to B (7th fret) on the low E, go from G on low E to the 2nd on A).

So you think 100% difficulty at slower speed is better than lower difficulty at close to full speed? Working on Knocking on Heaven's Door and have it at 57% diff at 92 speed. Wasting my time? Thanks!!
@AaronAKPParrish
@AaronAKPParrish 9 лет назад
I believe %100 difficulty at slower speeds is better because that's how you would learn to read music or tab from a book. It's the way musicians learn a song. I find that it's harder when you learn a song pretty well at a certain difficulty and then they throw in other notes after you have practiced the song a certain way.

@AaronAKPParrish

Search for ergonomic office chair with fold up arms. I had to find the perfect chair that felt comfortable with armrests that could get out of the way when I needed to play guitar. You can order online or pick up one at your local big box store.

Bob Roberts For practing scales in Session Mode just pick your instruments, the tempo you want, and the scale that you would like to practice and just improvise. Play only the notes that are highlighted. Have fun!

Hey Dale, begin at the main menu and start with LESSONS. If you know the basics of guitar playing Shifting 101 will be a good place to start and the other lessons show you what the graphics mean and what you should play when you see them. Let me know if this helps.

I dig the changes. Makes riff repeater a lot more streamlined. I especially like how it saves your speed acceleration now instead of always defaulting to 10. Usually 5 works better most of the time but I even use 1 for when I hit the 90 to 100 speed. Also being able to pause and use the triggers to FF and rewind the tab is crucial at times. I definitely agree with ramping difficulty to 100 and slowing it way down. No sense learning a song 2 or 3 times. I think it really helps to pause the game and watch your own fretting to really be able to recall a song. I've always learned songs by looking at what I'm playing so sometimes it's hard to drill it in your head when your bouncing your eyes from the screen to your neck while playing. Cool vid and nice guitar. I've been wanting to get a semi hollow. Is that an Epiphone Dot?
