Rare to see a vanilla medieval 2 player. Almost everyone plays the game today just for the mods. Try it! The mods really improve the game 100%. For someone new to modded medieval 2, I'd recommend Stainless Steel and Third Age Divide and Conquer if you like LOTR. Some of the best mods for any game that I've played :)

This is one of my all time favorite games, and I only ever played vanilla.

If you don't want to play with too many changes to the game, the Retrofit mod is a good choice, as it just adds the Kingdoms troops and fixes some of the bugs.

Yeah, love this game and played mostly vanilla. Beloved Empire and Shogun 2 felt too complicated for me, this one is just pure fun.

A playthrough only lasted weeks? How did you play for such a short time? Typically it takes a year to complete a campaign. Well, maybe less if you just go for the victory conditions. What's in the Definitive Edition and when did that come out? Is that just the Gold edition with a different name?

I really recommend mods they give a mutch better experience to the game. The best mods are the lotr ones. Multiplayer: third age reforged Singleplayer: divide and conquer

hope we will get at least a Medieval 2 Remastered like with Rome. I guess a Medieval 3 will be far in the future. They seem to focus more on very specific scenarios and events rather than the whole world/ Europa.

Get the medievalopedia it tells you how you can get or avoid traits. The Pagan trait/follower happens when you don't build churches and spend too long in pagan territory or away from churches. You don't have to stay outside towns, just when you build something put the taxes on maximum and if you have one of the brothel line of buildings, then you get out of town, but when not building something you should be fine. I don't build those buildings anyway as they increase corruption levels.

im really not sure how to handle sieges. the towers shoot from all directions, even when im right near them or even inside them, as long as there is ANY enemy unit nearby. at early game, i got no way to deal with enemy units there as the towers rip me to pieces when i try to clear them. what am i doing wrong? its really frustrating me and its difficult to keep playing. in rome 1, i could easily capture towers if they were not heavily defended, and they couldnt shoot me when i was on the walls, usually.

If you haven't played Third Age Total War, you haven't lived!!! The Lord of the Rings mods are amazing!

That’s true, they must create Medieval 3 TW similar or advanced compared with Medieval 2, otherwise they will be bankrupt faster than they think.

The one thing that puts me off for this game is that your units don't regen on there own.

I played etw first but mtw 2 best diplomacy in the first turn as england france gave me all it territory, then spain, and the holy roman empire

Medieval 2 is a good game, but calling it "the best" is one hell of a stretch. For starters, general's bodyguard is near unstoppable in early game, even with spears. Secondly, half of the later unit roster is a joke(two-handed, pikes, muskets), and the other half is just boring. Take France for example, for a good half of the campaign you'll only have spear infantry, crossbowmen and mailed knights. If you're patient enough, you'll eventually unlock OP SWORD BOIS, same knights but with better stats and that's it. Enjoy your 50-hour hammer & anvil experience. In Rome 1 and 2 you have slings, bows, javelins, all with a different playstyle, shock and melee cavalry, swords, spears, axes right from the start, WORKING PIKES AND TWO HANDED WEAPONS. How did CA manage to break pikes and two-handed using the same engine is beyond me. And just to spice things up, that weird diplomacy system in medieval 2 that could make everyone hate you and declare war without any chance of peace treaty. It could have been the best if CA didn't abandon it
