George you need to get your own ladder, please. That's not a safe thing to get on. You'll need it anyway for building the shed. Then tell your Dad it finally broke and he can borrow your new ladder that won't try to kill him. Love those gizmos for the sky lights, so uncluttered and smart. Give Junior a pat for me, missed her.

He (the dad) won't borrow it. The only chance would be, if he had his own. In reach. In every room. And lightweight. The lightest. Ideally even walking to site _itself_ when needed! Otherwise no chance. 😅 If he wouldn't pull it from the garage or basement, he would definitely not fetch it from his son's house. 😅 Adventurous people the Dunnett boys are!! 😂

My friend’s 73 yo husband fell off an 8 foot ladder onto the concrete driveway while putting up Christmas lights. He was miraculously semi-okay, in that he had no brain injury and did not kill himself but bruised his heart and broke ribs and sternum. In the waiting room of the ER a guy was handing out cards for his business - hanging and taking down lights. Apparently this is a common occurrence at the holidays so he knows where to find new customers. Husband is still mending but will be okay soon. Your video was very funny, glad you did not need an ambulance ride!

Glad you made it out alive. Two years ago i wasn't do so lucky. During tree trimming, a limb knocked the ladder out from under me. Ladder landed on its side and i landed on the ladder with my right side ribs taking most of the blow from the landing. I had 6 completely broken ribs, 9 fractured ribs, broken wrist, punctured lung and a lacerated liver. It literally almost killed me. So be careful and use a good sturdy latter and have your phone in your pocket

I'm age 22 and got seriously into house repair when the pandemic hit me knocking me out of my 1st year of college. From age 13 I worked for a property management company to make money for gymnastics academy fees (not cage fighting fees like you). At first it was desperation to make money. But after that worked out well I liked helping turn shitty houses into less shitty houses and apartments. Then pandemic happened. I worked at a Menards store in building supplies and from the got hired by a construction company. I think they liked my gymnast muscular physique as I was shirtless a lot in the yard when the weather was very hot and humid. But I said yes to a full time construction job. And then I needed to learn about serious construction work. I was hired to do framing and later drywalling. I went to RU-vid to learn from experts and non-experts. It would be fun to work on your projects. I think you can do more than you think but I understand about leaving dangerous and tricky things to experts. We like your business. And I know about death defying ladders to. Being 14 years in gymnastics saved me more than once from serious injuries. I like your recent upgrades a lot btw. Anton

I’ve had both these on the Velux in my bedroom for almost 20 years. Another thing I’d recommend is the fly screen - which means, when it’s hot, you can leave the windows open all day and not come back to loads of flies or other insects inside the house. As a bonus, the screen also catches a lots of dust and leaves (stops it landing on the floor below) and minimises spider incursion!

As new home owners, my ex and I bought a great ladder, which he then proceeded to render useless by parking it under a tree for pruning, and "jumping" the ladder around while he was still on it so he wouldn't have to climb down three steps to move it. It destroyed the hinges (and did nothing for our relationship 😄)

Fantastic work, and even better both kidneys and spleen are in tact afterwards. My dad was a DIY master and woe be on the person who went into his shed and moved as much as a screw out of place. I picked a few things up from him and wouldn't be frightened of trying to fix something before calling the pros in (usually after making it far worse myself) Apart from anything to do with heights....even watching you up the ladder made me nervous. At least I know who to call if I need someone to put those up in my place!

I'm impressed that you were able to install the window devices yourself! My husband and I put in a window AC in one large room in the house that is used more than any other room. He was able to lift it into the window- half outside the window and half inside the window. Then, I read the directions and connected it to my phone through their app. It's the best thing ever! No need to get up to change the temperature or fan speed, or AC versus fresh air! Technology is pretty awesome!

@@Patchy I really appreciate you using professionals instead of faking it. If someone has the right set of skills to do their own construction or remodeling, good for them. I'm with you - I love watching renovations, but for myself, I NEVER touch anything to do with electricity, and only the bare minimum of plumbing (very minor clogs, etc). And I'm not crazy about heights. One of the selling points of my current home is that the ceilings are quite low, and I can reach the highest light fixtures with a step-stool and something to grab on to for balance (wall, top of the back of a chair, etc). That, and modern long-life bulbs, make bulb-changing easier and much less frequent. I often wonder when watching reno shows how the renovators plan to change their light bulbs!

There's something absolutely magical about being able to sort stuff out on your own and the satisfaction that you get is second to none. I should also mention that I am not recommending this to a random someone but rather to you specifically as you seem more than capable of doing a lot of stuff that you are afraid to do because of the belief that you don't have enough knowledge and that is simply not the case.

Great video. Very educational. I never thought about remote control/ weather sensor blinds before. Glad to know they are available. Happy to see/hear you were not injured during the making of this video. Please be safe?! See you in the next one.

I would suggest in your own tool kit, please look for a light weight more stable ladder that could get you up to your ceiling jobs and expand to get you safely up to your roof. There are some very stable and lighter weight (easier for one person to manage) types of great ladders on the market now and you’ll be very happy to have that for ANY job you do around your home or the b&b. Some can fold or collapse for shorter storage locations and still be very stable when extended.

Great job 👏 please please buy a safe ladder! And if you can get another one for your dad too it could be a good father’s day present 😊

George, you low key crack me up. My old boss used to get us on the very top step of 8m A frame ladders to cut hedges……..the ladders were on the back of flat bed trucks 😂. Cheers to near death experiences and cage fights
