Two flowy dresses with woven fabrics, a V neckline, princess seams, practical pockets and discreet gathers make this design comfortable, but not boxy thanks to the well-fitting cup sizes. I have made 2 Celeste dresses from Itch to Stitch: one without changes as a pattern tester and the second one, with a two tier gather hack to the center. Super cute. Come and join all the practical sewing in this video!
The Celeste Dress from Itch to Stitch has been updated to include sizes 00-40US (A-DD cup sizes) and is 20% OFF through Monday 30th of August 2021. This is my affiliate link, thank you for supporting me 😊

I love your explanation style! Detailed without being too slow. Sometimes videos of this type make me very impatient but this one didn't. I also really appreciate your reassuring tone and the "old school" techniques--Im that way too.

Hi Karina: I just found your channel a few days ago and am so impressed. I love your presentations and very clear instructions! Your joy for sewing is contagious! I have been away from sewing for a number of years, but am excited to get back to it! I love Itch-to-Stitch patterns but what a bonus to have your sew alongside. One of my first makes is going to be this dress. In fact you have inspired me to start wearing more dresses! Thank you, sending love from Canada ❤️🇨🇦❤️

So many good things to say about this video. First, your lipstick color is great. If it is the same one then the lighting was extra good when you filmed. I am crazy for the fabrics you used. The black, typically not my go to color made me think of pinecones. When my kids when young we would take craft paint and gather leaves, acorns, pinecones, etc. The tapered white design looks like the pine cones we painted and pressed onto a tablecloth. The multi-color dress I am naming fractured geodes. It is a wonderful fabric and you wear your birthday gift well. So many tips that will make my sewing better and may even make me use rayon. Your ideas and problem solving shows your skill level. Thank-you for sharing your talents. Any thoughts of using 2 fabrics, one for the center panels and another for the remainder of the dress. Have a wonderful day.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
The lipstick is RED, love it and feel great and very me with a red lip. When I wear clothes that don’t go with red, I use a dark dark pink and those are the only colors I use. Simple :) Pairing with pine cones sounds so fun! Using two fabrics is a great option. I was limited in my choices this time.

Excellent video. I like the two dresses you created and the thorough instructions for assembly and for the hack. Really well done. Suggestion on the sleeveless armhole: why not take the sleeveless armhole from a pattern that you have tested and trace it on to this one. Front and back. Might save a lot of fussing.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
About transferring the armscye, I would consider doing that with a knit garment, but with a woven, I need to consider how the bust will fit. This pattern has princess seams and already fits my bust with minimal armcyse gaping. What I did was easier than any other method. I would not be happy to just trace another armhole from a woven pattern drafted differently.

@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
I thought about knits but would attempt this with a lighter flowy one due to the gathers. They would be bulky with a ponte, for example. I would size down one size and finish the neckline with a V neckband instead.

@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
In the testing group, only one person needed the zipper, the ease at the bust and waist is enough to pull it on easily. The liner and burrito? I don’t think it’s doable due to the V neckline and that the facing only covers the front partially.

I just looked and it’s 5 pages. It includes all the cup sizes, so not all of them need to be printed. The document has a little chart saying what pages need to be printed for each cup sizes, so you’ll need to print only 3 pages.

Hello Karina, while this video is a couple years old, I love it and your direction. I do have a question, I just ordered the pattern from Itch To Stitch, and a beautiful viscose fabric. Would you recommend using viscose or does it have too much drape?

I used it and it was fiddly. I’d interface the Center front & the facing with rayon.

@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thank you so much for your quick reply. I also have a beautiful off white Linen, I’ll use it instead.

You are so resourceful with making a 2 level ruffle. I would not have thought of that. By the way, the pattern’s name « Celeste » is also a French word , meaning heavenly.

Well our languages come from Latin and it actually means heavenly in Spanish too, in another context 😀. I took it from the color he he. In English it could be “celestial”. Languages are always very interesting.

I Love this dress and have bought the pattern. I just want to know why you don’t recommend rayon? I love the drape of yours and it seems to work perfectly. 🌺

I took special care to interface the whole front piece and edges of the bodice to conserve their shape. It’s not part of the instructions to do so because rayon is not a recommended fabric. I don’t recommend it unless the extra steps are taken because rayon will stretch out a lot :)

I like both dresses. My favourite print is the first one. How difficult would it be to add sleeves to a sleeveless pattern? I wanting to do this to Kwik Sew K2836.

Adding sleeves is not straightforward, the sleeveless armhole has a shorter armscye and a different depth, no ease there. A sleeve on that shape would restrict movement. A short partial cap sleeve cut on the bias would work.

I’m convinced. I want the pattern. May I ask, how tall are you? I am very short waisted, so back princess seams worry me.

I’m 5ft 8” but short waisted and tend to have a waist height of a shorter person. This is why I made a quick muslin of the bodice to check the fit 😊

Karina would this be appropriate for a pear shape body?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
Of course. There are instructions in the pattern on how to blend the side seam to the hip size needed. The ease is not a lot, just enough to flow nicely and not create extra bulk.

Looking at the line drawings, I thought it would be an easy make but actually it is quite involved because of the facing and the V neck.😬 It is a great looking pattern but I think a bit fiddly for me. I could see myself making a real mess of that neckline and facing unfortunately.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

The neckline can easily be simplified: *serging the bodice seam with the gathered detail. *making the front facing smaller, like a regular facing. *eliminating the center front seam of the bodice and cutting it in the fold I plan to make a simplified version soon:)

I love this pattern! On your hacked dress it looks like you left out the pockets? The print makes it hard to see
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
Yup, no pockets. Rayon is too flimsy for the pockets and I had limited amount of this print :)
