Really appreciate you answering my question I loved the tank and fix my own washing machines for quite some time I got two in the garage. This machine I think I'm going to purchase because this is going to work perfect for my basement. Then I can terminate the vent hose and complete rig job that I did so it ends up going into my garage which is not good. Say play the guitar as I can't have that moisture going into a water bucket or anything like it was set up prior to me moving in here so I'm going to purchase that for sure I don't know the cost of it but I think you left the link in the bottom I'm going to take a look at it thank you
@@bopitbull3957 just note that this thing unboxed is 302lbs, so make sure you have a REALLY GOOD dolly to put it in a basement. This is, by far, the heaviest thing I've ever seen in my life. Feels like a pure brick of concrete really lol
I'm a little surprised how much you got stuck on the filter. Like you pointed out, if you don't clean that in a regular dryer, you're going to have an issue, so that doesn't make this unit any different to a regular dryer. On my regular dryer, I clean the lint filter after every load. I'd treat this unit the same way.
I thought you were supposed to check and clean the lint trap after every load? At my last home my roommate owned the washer/dryer and his Samsung had a reminder to check the lint trap between every load. My Maytag dryer has a bit larger lint trap. I check it, but it really only needs cleaning every other load that goes through it.
One of the huge benefits of this unit is that it's ventless. I mean you can put this sucker just about anywhere. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned. If it was i missed it .
I got this machine for ~$2,000 during a 4th of July deal. We have very limited space and were planning on getting a Miele or Bosch stacking set until we saw this come out. The bigger capacity was really the big selling point for us vs the Miele and Bosch's. We've had it running for about a month now and no complaints. We are diligent with filter cleaning but we do have 2 dogs and 2 cats so hopefully it keeps running well for us. I'm a very handy person so if it comes down to it, I should be able to take it apart and thoroughly clean it every few years if that's what's needed. Our normal sized loads are typically 2 hours or so to wash and dry, but we have had a load or two that stayed at the "1 minute" mark for 30 minutes or so before it finally finished. We really like that it's one-and-done and that you can't forget to move a load from the washer to the dryer now. Regardless of how long it takes to dry, we still save a ton of time ultimately because it starts drying as soon as the washing is done.
I think you dodged a bullet on the Miele. I had a set that lasted 22 years and replaced with a new set of Mieles. My wife absolutely hates the new Miele, the heat pump dryer sucks. I had limited room at my cabin just enough for the miele but the wife hated the Miele so much we didn't want another one. This fit the area perfect and totally love it. It dries so much better then the Miele. Probably won't last as long but half the price of the Miele.
Thanks for your comment about GE washer. I’m redoing my kitchen and now will definitely make a place for this washer/dryer to avoid going in the basement.
@@pauljones8796 I have the newer Miele washer and dryer the TX1680WP is the dryer model. I upgraded from two LG front loaders. Dryer was electric. I got them for a real bargain from PC Richards at the scratch and dent warehouse with minor blemishes. I think they are great but like your Mrs. my GF hates them. Only because of the capacity. She was used to washing and drying larger loads. Anyway they worked well in my opinion. She wanted me to put the old ones back in. When the GE one and done came out not to long after I bought the Mieles I bought it. Took a little while for her to get used to it but I believe she likes it now.
I purchased this washer and to put it simply, its amazing. It's saves space, its quiet, and it gets clothes clean. The convenience of just putting a load in first thing in the morning or before you go to bed and have it completely finished when you come back or wake up CANNOT be overstated. Typically, im a top load washer guy because I like lots of water to wash towels, blankets, and really dirty stuff. I cannot say that this washer cleans as effectively as a top loader when washing the same volume of clothes so I just do smaller loads with the "more water" and "extra rinse" settings on and things come out fresh and clean. There is also a "more dry" setting as well, to help things get very dry. This washer is like having a laundry service, it allows me to do other things while my clothes go from dirty to completely clean and dry. Also, no venting or 240v outlet needed... what?!! Since time is our most valuable resource... this washer/dryer is well worth the money.
Wow I'm a HVAC mechanic who specializes in heatpumps and uses them to heat my home and never would have thought of this ever though it makes perfect sense, genius!
Thank you for the review! For a more realistic stain test, let the stains dry for at least 24 hours before washing; it's easy to remove still moist stains.
An interior designer friend claimed that mustard was the hardest common stain to remove from fabric. So perhaps you'll add a dollop of mustard to your ketchup next time? =)
I know in my area, the city requires peak electrical load calculations before you can get a permit to install a high wattage EV charger in your garage. This unit would allow you to reduce that peak by 5000 watts from a standard electric dryer, which might make a significant difference in the size of EV charger allowed. A typical 200A service for a home would be able to supply 38400 watts for a continuous load (80% of 200A at 240V), so saving 5000 real watts is actually about 13% of the total load capacity.
While this MAY not be the best solution, you should know that it is sometimes possible to call up the city power company and request an upgraded power line. 400A is quite possible, and when I tried it, it was free - HOWEVER, you'll need a new panel (and subpanel and breakers) which means you pay out significant cash, but the end result is a massive increase in capacity. I'd make an argument it is money well spent since it would probably improve both the usability and sale price of the house.

I've seen a few other reviews of this machine, but to be honest, yours was the one I was waiting for. I've been watching your channel for a while now and I trust and value your knowledge, opinions, and deep dive, detailed analysis of all the appliances. I also appreciate your jokes, references and fun, sweet compliments of your wife. A couple of things I don't believe you mentioned are that 1) it uses a standard electric plug, not the giant 220 dryers usually do, and 2) no venting. Overall, this seems like a great machine and a cool innovation, if overpriced (but then, it is still new to the market and might come down over time, hopefully). If I ever have that kind of money to burn, this one is on my short list. Thanks for your review!👏
@@Ice_Solid Definitely a good point! A friend of mine recently bought one and was eligible for a rebate from her electric company. You're right, it really isn't much different in cost than buying a nice washer and dryer separately. Only gripe was that, at the time she bought hers, there was a sales tax holiday on appliances, but with a price cap. Separate washer and dryer would've each fallen below the cap, but the combo unit was over. Obviously a very specific case though.
@mrs.antihero This was a surprise to me too! My friend recently bought one for a space that did not have a vent provision, so that was a big plus! Unfortunately there was only a 220v outlet there, and we weren't prepared for that.
I find it weird that it is just recently the 2-in-1 washer dryer seem to be hitting the US market. It has been in use in some countries 15-20 years ago, so I think of it as an old innovation.
You've helped me help many people with cheap or free appliances. Another thanks to the people that put appliances on the roadside with a note of whether it works and or what the symptoms are.
Even as a child I always wondered why washer/dryer combos weren't more prevalent. It seems like such an obvious thing to want. It does both jobs in half the space. Yet it's pretty rare to see them. Even when trying to find some online I only see around 4, this ge being one of them.
Washer/Drying combos are very common in Europe and have been for decades. When I used to travel to Europe 20-25 years ago, no one that I can recall had both a separate washer and drying. They were all combo units in order to save space. I did have a friend who also had a separate dryer, but their washer was a combo unit. I don't know why they're not more popular here. They're much more efficient with both using less electricity and usually less water. But the tech isn't new, and GE is decades behind other brings from Samsung, LG and others.
In the US leaving the dampness is seen as a problem, it's why vents are so common. They are also known to have maintenance problems. So you have a high maintenance high cost machine with worse quality drying.
@@MINIMAN10000 I've not known that to be the case in my experience. And because everyone (or at least most people) has dual washer/dryer combos in the EU, they're not uncommon and less expensive to repair. But generally they weren't very problematic. It wasn't unusual for a load of laundry to take 3 hours there, but they are more power efficient and still get the job done. It's a common misconception in the United States and Canada that combo units are some new technology. They're not.
As a maintenance person all I can say is the more complicated the appliances the less time they're going to last. As of right now I got 2 combos to fix/ replace?? Never seen them before and I don't like them. I think the early appliances was the best ones... they lasted 30+ years.... none of this new stuff last that long at all
I saw this on sale at Costco and was tempted, but my current washer and dryer work just fine. I'm glad to see it getting good reviews, though, and hopefully it or a successor model will still exist when I'm next on the market. In addition to the energy and space savings and the ability to throw clothes in whenever and take them out fully dry, without needing to remember to swap machines before mold starts growing, using something like this could also save you energy with your HVAC. A normal dryer exhausts a lot of moist air, which needs to be made up in some way. The makeup air ends up leaking in through every crack in your home's envelope. So essentially you are exhausting conditioned air and letting in unconditioned air, increasing your heating load in the winter and your cooling load in the summer. If you've put effort in to air-sealing your home, a heat pump dryer of some sort can take your improvements to the next level.
I'm not sure how it could be exhausting a lot of damp warm air entirely unless we're talking about just radiant heat from the surface of the machine because if you have your vent properly connected and it properly cleaned out there's not going to be much in the way of heat transference. Or you know just make sure you keep the laundry room door shut lol

A vented dryer works by pulling air from inside your house (conditioned air, that's been heated or cooled by your HVAC to comfortable living temperature) and running it through the heating element, then through the dryer drum to absorb moisture, then out the vent to the outside of your house. This causes the air pressure inside your house to drop as air is vented outside. As the air pressure inside your house drops below the air pressure outside your house, air from outside pushes its way inside through bathroom & kitchen vents, and gaps and cracks in walls and around windows and doors in order to equalize the pressure between outside and inside. This air that comes into your house from outside is almost certainly either too hot or too cold depending on the season, which increases the load on, and energy use of, your HVAC system.
I think the biggest drawback is that you cannot wash more clothes until the first load is done drying. So over the course of 5 hours you'll only have two loads done. Normally I'm putting a 4th load in the washer at around the 5 hour mark.
@@AdmiralStoicRumA normal dryer sucks a LOT of are from wherever it is and blows it out of the side of the house. This thing only drains the WATER out of the recirculating air and dumps it down the same drain that the washer uses.
Our Admiral front load combo from the late 50's worked perfectly and tirelessly for years of 2-4 loads a day. In those days we washed EVERYTHING after 1 use and ironed EVERYTHING including tea towels and diapers.
I am an HVAC instructor, and I have had one of these for close to a year now. Still working well and biggest issue is drying and we have found if you use the settings bulky for bedding, jeans for jeans it works better. We clean filter every load, but there was a large build up on left side wall where it come out of fan I did get it out with a refrigerator condenser brush
I would like to have seen those stains put on cotton clothing, and leave them on to dry for a week, then I would be impressed. You used a lot of synthetic clothing, and wash fairly fast without letting the stains absorb into the clothing.
@@daveklein2826I mean... If we're trying to test the machine in real world conditions, instantly washing with "stains" on synthetic fibers is like playing t ball for washing machines.
I already bought one when I outfitted my new cabin with all appliances. Home Depot had a Fourth of July sale in that machine was $2,000 and I got another 250 off for the bulk purchase. I will not get it until the middle of September but I am looking forward to it especially now that you've given it a good review. It also has secondary energy savings in that you're not taking your warm or cold air out of your house and exhausting it outside.
Re, warm air - yes, this is 100% a great point that I didn't get to keep in the original script. Since its not drawing ambient air in to heat up and throw away, you get extra savings. Its hard to quantify how much of a savings that is, though.

@@Leonardokitedoor is not reversible. The inside glass is angled to improve air flow; GE said they made it not reversible to optimize drying. Since you don’t have to move laundry from machine to machine the door swing is probably fine in most spaces. One of the designers said all this in a video interview on another appliance channel, but seemed to realize they need to take door swing into consideration on future models.
Thanks for the review, I appreciate the detail in regards to energy and water consumption, and especially construction and repairability! I helped a close friend pick out and install this model about three weeks ago. She bought an older house and due to space constraints was limited to either this or a stacked combo unit. Her objection to the stacked unit was capacity, she wanted to be able to wash a queen sized comforter. I nudged her towards this, the tech and efficiency was appealing to me. Seeing this video prompted me to reach out and ask her opinion on it, now that she's been living with it for a few weeks. She says she's mostly happy with it, more pros than cons. She likes the way the clothes come out, says they feel nicer than coming out of a traditional dryer, never misshapen, shrunken, or wrinkled. I can attest to that too, I was with her when she ran the first load after install. The energy savings will likely be a big positive in the long run too, we're in Florida and she's had some very high electric bills this summer running AC in a house that's not well sealed (it's almost 100 years old.) Cons are that the barrel occasionally smells musty, though it is in an unconditioned space and the high ambient humidity may be a factor. I suggested that she may try leaving the door open when it's not in use to help prevent that. She does say that the lint trap needs more frequent cleaning than a traditional dryer, as noted in your review, but the machine gives a reminder before starting a cycle and it's not really an issue. Minor pet peeve is that the controls are very sensitive, and she finds her self accidentally pressing buttons while it's running just by leaning against it trying to reach things stored above. I'm going to dig into the manual and see if there's a button lock function. Biggest concern before purchase was losing time by only having one unit, as in you can't start a second load in the wash while the first load is drying, as you would with separate machines. In practice she says this has not really been as big of a hindrance as expected, being able to start a load and go to bed or leave the house without having to wait around and move it to the dryer makes up for it in her use case. She also thinks that the larger load capacity in this machine is a pretty fair trade off compared to having stacked units with smaller capacity. Overall she is happy with the purchase.
You definitely gave me peace of mind. We hope to age in place and negotiating the stairs to reach washer/dryer in the basement has become a bit dicey. We bought, this machine as a compromise to solve aging mobility issues. We figured it cost less than a full remodel of a room in our home. We were able to place it in our climate controlled all season room. Re: filter, I faithfully am used to cleaning it after each load anyway.
Traditionally, (European) washer driers had the limitation that they could roughly dry half the maximum load of the wash, so if the maximum wash load was say 9kg, the recommended dryer load would be 4.5kg. Whilst this may sound inconvenient, it is generally better to dry similar fabrics together - cottons, polycottons etc. I was amazed that on your second load the washer managed so well when the drum was so full - impressive.
Are current washer (which just broke) and dryer are two different brands. Our washer was 5.2 cubic feet and I don’t know what the dryer is but it is larger. We could not stuff the washer full because even with the dryer being larger it would still put too much strain on it when that many items in the dryer. Also the vent pipe for our dryer goes all the way across our house so it puts even more strain on it, we don’t think it is going to last much longer but it has lasted longer than 2 washers at this point. If it does fail we might get a ventless dryer.

And that's an incredible amount for any single, speciifc unit that isn't may a general brand one like "Review a Speed Queen!". In hindsight, I wish I could have been the first ever to review it, and I'd have been open, honestly, to not paying the $2,500 to review it and get it gifted, but that's not what happened but certainly everyone will be better off for it I think. I hope I tried to be fair and even-handed on this with what I could do in a single video, though. There's a lot to like on this, but also a few things to dislike, and I think that people will gloss over the problems, but also not admit to why those problems could exist and how to solve them, too.
Great, great review. I've definitely been intrigued with this GE Profile One and Done, specifically because this would simplify our kids doing their own laundry. Obviously the price is a big issue. If a premium washer costs $1000, add a ~$300 dehumidifier, and air plumbing, it's not hard to see economies of scale (and hopefully competition) bringing the pricing down. Right now they are trying to take advantage of first to market with an efficient & practical large capacity combo unit, taking the pricing of a premium washer/dryer set at ~$2K and then adding whatever premium they can up to their 'MSRP' of $2900. It sold for $2K around the 4th of July, and I think I'll wait until Labor Day to see if we see a return to that more enticing pricing. The best points of this are: 1. not having to switch laundry between two machines and the space savings of a combo unit 2. 115V electricity(no special wiring needed)/low wattage consumption/ventless efficiency which improves overall home efficiency. 3. large practical capacity and reasonable cycle times The drawbacks: 1. New to market with unfamiliar complexities/longevity concerns 2. Pricing is getting out of hand 3. loss of pipelining efficiency where you can cycle full loads through a washer and dryer set in ~ an hour per load.

Replaced my broken GE 13-year-old washer, and got rid of my GE dryer same age. Bought this new all-in-one. Works great for single person like myself. I like how it dries and doesn't make my clothes burnt stiff like my old manual-dial dryer. Usually done within 2hrs, sometimes 2hr30min but that is fine with me. A big load of towels, or jeans, or a queen mattress will take the most time to dry. Otherwise the quick wash comes in handy too. I'm not going back to two machines. GE has a winner here with this machine.
I completely agree with bopitybull. I must be an old timer. I dry all of my clothes, which is typically three loads. Afterwords, I take the filter out and clean it. The dryer has lasted 30 years and operated flawlessly. The only reason I’m buying new is I’m moving and need electric vs gas. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said all people want to do is put things in and turn the switch without ever having to do anything more. I can’t remember any time that my father would replace some thing unless he tried to fix it first. Back in the day you could do that but not anymore.

[See my reply in Jan 13 2024 update post] Best video I've seen so far on this machine. I got one in August 2023 and love it. There are some problems - as you mentioned - the maintenance of the lint component is key. I have to clean the filter after EVERY wash - even after self-clean (I get the prompt). Sometimes there will be a few items that stick to the drum at the end of the cycle. I also clean the pump filter every week or two, but I still get notifications about changing the lint filter. My vacuum cleaner can't even get the filter compartment completely clean. All that aside, I am totally in love with this Groovy Combo.
@@nomankh6717 I recently got a message from the app that I needed to replace the foam filter and there was a link to purchase it at GE for around $12. Not bad except, when I clicked the link, the filter was out of stock and there was a message saying it's estimated to be available by Dec 2024!
@@nomankh6717Although this machine has fallen a bit short of what I was led to expect from two interviews I watched with the designer, I still love my Groovy Combo. I am beginning to get concerned that the unit I purchased may be defective. It doesn’t dry well and stopped drying completely last week. I unplugged/replugged it, and it dried the load when I re-washed it. I’ve been diligent about following the maintenance instructions so I can’t see I’ve failed in any way to cause this. At some point when I can find the time I’ll contact GE to have it checked out. But being able to skip that load move from washer to dryer more than makes up for the maintenance. It also does a stellar job at removing lint from clothes.

First reviewer to talk about load size. Terrific. I am amazed that a full wash load was able to dry as well as it did although looking really wrinkled. Looks like a half load is the way to go like other combo units. Comparison to other combo units like the LG, Siemens and Whirlpool might be nice.
I just came across this washer looking for parts for my ge space saver. It says they come out a little damp but dry really fast after fluffing. So folding them and not letting them sit in the basket would get rid of the wrinkled look.
I've got the GE GFW550 washer, and have been highly impressed with how dry clothes come out. Much dryer than any others, in my experience. Very high speed spin cycle, like 1500 RPM. That's part of the "trick" of the dryer combo, imo. I like it, except 2 things. Warranty "requires" GE specific hose set, which can not be sourced anywhere, second GE goes into great length to hide "Made in China".
We had one of these at a rental and had no plans to do laundry until we saw it. When we initially purchased our washer dryer set we debated if we should get a combo but most reviews online said they were too under powered. This one performed admirably. Seriously considering selling our washer and dryer to get this.
I bought this machine and it is awesome and dries just fine. I washed a king-size quilt and it washed and dried it perfectly and I did not have to take it out like my old dryer.
@@gilrose12345It's a dehumidifier. Everyone who's owned a dehumidifier will tell you that they last at least 40 years in a basement lol. This is not a "heat pump" like in HVAC where you have hundreds of feet of coper line that some apprentice used stay-brite 8 on that leaks inside walls lol.
@donovanlewis3053 I have tried nearly every hp dryer on the marker and they perform poorly overtime! Especially the 120 volt ones. HPD's need to be 240 volts - like in Europe.
@@dregenius Actually it is a heat pump dryer and its very complex. To replace that entire unit alone would cost you $1,500 with labor. Good luck doing that 6 years +
@donovanlewis3053 GE added a large fan to make up for the lack of power due to the 120 volt. My new Beko 4.5 cubic ft 240 volt hp dryer does a great job in just 40 minutes- all jeans and cotton towels!
Thanks, Ben. Here in UK (and continental Europe) heat-pump dryers seem much more common. It's surprising US hasn't bothered much with them given the money-saving (though elec is MUCH cheaper in US than Europe, where it's approaching 40 cents/Kwh here). I have an LG HP dryer and washer and have found them fine. My only concern about a combi is that it could overall be less reliable than sep units (if my dryer breaks I can still wash). Although, as you say, common fail points are electrical on modern washers, sooner or later the bearing goes on front-load washers, and at £2000 / $2500 I'd absolutely require a separatable drum to facilitate bearing replacement (the problem with modern FLs is sealed drums, preventing otherwise serviceable washers being repaired, thus the criminality of scrapping for the sake of a small, cheap part). I'd also like to see replaceable spiders at this price (assuming it could degrade, as notoriously happened with Samsung washers only a few years old). For that cost I think I'd prefer to stack an LG washer and LG HP dryer, which at UK prices would be c £11-1200 / $14-1500 for both. But for people less geeky, who want seamless washing/drying, this looks good and your judgement is reassuring. I wonder what Consumer Reports' evaluation will be? Best wishes, Marcus
@@bluearcherx Yes, it even more expensive in Germany. In UK it reduced a little recently to 30pence / 38 cents - so there's a great incentive here to save on drying costs.
Imagine having actual healthcare. Or infrastructure that isn't falling apart. You get what you pay for generally, and we are cheap as hell. We get paid cheap as hell, and we spend a lot on cheap garbage that will just end up in a landfill.
This is fantastic... I live in apartment where we get the smell of toxic dryer sheets into our apt.. I was looking into how to better seal off the backflow... But this solves the problem completely by allowing me to block off the vent entirely! I've noted this video for when I purchase and will check back to see if there are newer units you've reviewed. *edit* I got mine! It's 300 lbs!!! thank god for installation service.
Just bought one of these for our new home due to the fact the laundry room is much MUCH smaller than our old one so we need something compact this review as well as reading comments on different videos has let me learn a lot about this machine and I am excited for it to come so I can finally do my laundry myself again 😅
I have a combo front loader(Midea) with a heat pump dryer. It does not dry towels fully, and I have read online that this is usual for a smaller unit. In 10 years of use I have only had to replace the drain pump. Other than being slow(4 hours for wash + dry of 5kg clothes) my only complaint is that it has always been noisey. However, it is far more gentle at drying than my old skool Simpson dryer from the 80's. That thing might never die but it turns everything to cardboard. I only ever use it for towels.
I have a washer/dryer combo made by Marathon Laundry. The main difference with it is the dryer is vented like a regular dryer instead of having a dehumidifier. Overall, it's a good machine. The reason I bought it was because I live in a 240 sq ft former lawnmower shed. So space, or lack there of, was key. It still takes longer than a normal dryer would, but it gets the job done. Plus you can easily program more drying time into your washing/drying recipe.
@@blaydCA That explains why they aren't answering emails. I'm not surprised to hear it though. It works ok. But I honestly wouldn't buy it again if I had it to do all over. The first machine they sent me looked like a prototype model. It looked very different from their advertised model. It had trouble getting heat from the heating element into the tub. I complained about it and a little over a year later, they sent me their newest model. It works much better, but it still doesn't dry as well as a regular dedicated dryer.
We purchased the exact same unit a couple months ago. I love this machine. I'll never own a separate washing and dryer ever again. And clean the lint filter after every use just like you used to on your dryer. Zero issues with drying time. Also always hit the wrinkle care option. You will never have wrinkled cloths even if they have been in the machine all day. We're going to buy a 2nd unit and place it where the dryer used to be.
RU-vid randomly suggested your video. One of the best washer dryer reviews I’ve ever seen! We have basically the washer only part of this one from GE. Based on our standard dryer use, I would guess this is saving 1 to maybe 2 kWh per wash and dry cycle. Not a lot by itself, it would add up over the years. The peak wattage used is certainly less as the standard dryer hits 6,500 watts on low heat mode. I understand you are getting two units for the price of one, but would really want to see some kind of sale on this to buy it. Our GE washer is only a few years old so not exactly in the market anytime soon….or at least I hope not.
These have already been on sale for as low as $2,000... Down from their initial MSRP of $2,899. I also have been told what wholesale on these machines is currently. There's a hefty margin on them through retailers, so the real-world price on this has a LOT of wiggle room. GE dealers are making heaps of cash right now which is rare, because appliances have notoriously bad markups.

There is two things I do like about this washer one you can start it in the middle of the night and it’s ready when you wake up or you get home from work so the time factor not a problem. Also, this has a federal tax credit of 30%. Up to $600 so that brings down the cost of the machine.
Great review. But many people might understand that because it is a heat pump and a 120-volt system. You do not need a vent or a 240-volt power supply. All you need is a standard AC outlet and plumbing for the washer. So if you have an old washer setup in your garage but not a dryer setup you can replace the old washer with this.
Over-drying has always been a big problem with my dryer which had fried a lot of towels. A little bit of moisture left after drying is actually necessary since ambient cotton fibers have a small amount of moisture on them anyway.
Ben, I love your channel so much. I've been looking EVERYWHERE online trying to find a repair guide or teardown of this unit and I couldn't find anything! I desperately wanted to know more about the internals of the machine. Otherwise, I have no idea what I'm buying, If the parts are quality, or how repairable it is. A consideration: not having to move the clothes from washer to drier means easily washing clothes at night while you sleep. Who cares if it takes 2 to 4 hours if you just wake up to finished clothes? Doing this will save my household (that washes and dries every day) at least $270 a year alone on electricity. Probably saves more since some days are multi-load days. And I'm in Texas where rates are cheap.
Another note about efficiency. Yes, it uses vastly less electricity from start to finish. It also doesn’t vent to the outside of your house like a normal dryer. A normal dryer blows a lot of air outside of your house which means an equal amount of air must be sucked in from the outside. Who cares? Well, it is likely that you used energy (gas, electricity, oil, propane, etc) to heat or cool that air in your house, just for it to be pumped out of your house and unconditioned air sucked into your house that you now have to pay to condition. Depending on the temperature of the outside air, this could lead to additional significant energy savings.
I have an lg 2 in 1. I'm a full time solo parent of an 11 year old. I love that machine so effing much it's unreal. I run a tub clean cycle more often than I would with a regular washer machine, but other than that I don't do anything different. Mine has a slightly smaller capacity than I would prefer, doing large blankets isn't really an option. Nice to see a larger capacity 2 in 1 on the market :) Oh! I also use super high spin cycle, low temp setting on the dryer for clothes, normal dry setting for towels and other stuff. A full load, including cool down time(which I consider to be part of the drying process), takes about 5-6 hours depending on the size and contents.
My current washer & dryer are over 10 years old (washer probably close to 15), so I’ve been keeping my eyes out for replacements. This unit would be great for us as a senior couple with a small laundry room. I only do 2-3 medium loads per week, so even at $2500, the cost per load over the next 10-15 years would be minimal. Definitely keeping this one on my short list, & looking forward to your continued reviews on it! Thank you!
I've owned 2 of LG'S versions (moved n left in the home). LOVE them! Clothes come out clean fresh and dry! Now if they would put them away lol😂 No filter to clean...just occasionally a basket to dump out.
@@megadan66 The biggest issue is the low water washers. But low water is not really a concern with a side load washer. For top load washers, the only one I know of that is any good is the ge 4.2 cu ft that has the water level knob. Most new top washers have no water select knob and want to tumble your clothes with barely any water in the drum with the level set by autosensing. Plus with an all in one side load, you can put it on a stand that sets the door height at the level of your chest. No bending over to reach anything.
I had an LG combo I bought in California and overall I loved it. Keeping in mind it did require a little more maintenance and care.... A majority of the time I just used the wash mode and let the clothes air dry outside on a line. I got the combo because hookups in apartments were limited.
That's another great use case for units like these. Apartments without proper hookups, or wanting to run it where there's no 240v receptacle. Honestly with copper and labor costs the price premium of one of these could easily be less than getting a new 240v receptacle installed, doubly so if it's a long distance to the breaker panel.
Off topic here but I love mentioning my 51 year old Maytag washer is still going strong. Glad that I listened to the store owner and chose the basic model without too many frills.
10:20 pretty interesting to see LG compressor in a GE machine! Also I too am a fan of GE being repair friendly, as I had a GE microwave break just after warranty. Even though it was entirely the fault of GE (faulty connection), it was great of them to include a schematic that helped with the troubleshooting. Thanks for the review, this unit is fantastic, especially for energy efficient new construction without gas. Definitely going to get one myself in the future, unless something similar comes out that is not made in China 😀
I bought a 'scratch and dent' Maytag commercial washing machine for a little over $600...including tax, delivery and taking my old machine away. It's simple to use and has several load sizes and settings. I don't use a dryer, since I have an outdoor rotary dryer and also a large indoor clothes rack in the laundry room. Ben gave the Maytag commercial a good review...and it's been in stores for a while, so people have bought them, used them and are happy with them. If I was considering buying this new GE unit, I'd want to wait until they've been bought and used a while, since it's a pretty expensive investment...more than a separate washing machine and dryer would cost.
I've had one since first introduced and have well over 100 loads so far. It uses some AI logic to learn your laundry habits such that now a normal cycle comfortably runs in under two hours, typically 1:50. I use a handheld vac to clean the filter after each use so it's quick and easy.
I think a dustbuster or cordless stick vac in the laundry room would make cleaning a breeze. And if you have a utility tub/sink in there, even better for the foam filter.
Thanks for the info. I just bought a new washer and dryer this year, and settled on an LG pair, but this combo unit caught my eye. The reason I didnt go for it was the price, and I feel like being the first model, its bound to have bugs and issues that will be worked out in later models. So when my new ones kick the bucket (hopefully not for a decade or so) il definitely consider an all in one unit (it'll probably be the standard by then anyway).
Worth noting is these heat pump combo units have been standard in Europe for at least a decade. I wouldn't worry too much about it being new and unproven tech.

This is the fastest selling appliance in history. Encompass is doing a training class on this at their GA facility. They asked me to crate this exact machine up and ship it to them, because GE THEMSELVES couldn't find a machine to let them train on, its THAT hard to find right now in the US.
I love combined-cycle machines. The LG unit i bought 5 years ago is amazing. Not a heat-pump model, it uses a resistive heater and a cold-water condenser section, but it still uses only a fraction of the electricity of a standard unit because it recirculates process air. Another benefit of ventless dyers, whether they are combination units or standalone, is that they don't blow all your heated/cooled house air outside. My math says that fact alone is saving me a couple hundred bucks a year on heating and cooling. I think that the reason people complain about time to dry so much is that they haven't figured out the ultimate life hack for doing laundry with these combined cycle units: put the clothes in when you go to bed, take them out when you wake up. Unless you have 8+ adults in your house, doing laundry this way is amazing. No more spending half a saturday or sunday babysitting the laundry machines, rushing to swap clothes so the next person can use it. toss your shit in at night, get it out in the morning, and just work with your housemates to deconflict which night people do laundry.
I’ve been selling appliances for 14 years. When this arrived at my company in June I purchased it almost immediately ($1999 plus the pedestal $229). This has forever changed how I do laundry. I put a full load in right before bed, when I wake up I have a giant load of laundry already done. If there is any more dirty laundry I just throw it in before I go to work. Before I had this 2 in 1 unit I would put clothes in the washer after work, then fall asleep/forget about the laundry. Then I would wake up to damp clothes, and not enough time to dry them before leaving for work. Also if you’re wondering why the price has gone up? From June through mid August my company has completely sold out of these 4 TIMES, and each time we ordered more we doubled the size of the previous order. Even I had to buy the display model off the sales floor because we were sold out and I didn’t want to wait for the next shipment. I’ve had customers come into my stores because they seen this at our competitors but they were also sold out.
Funny story on selling out. A major parts company knew I bought this to do reviews on. They called me and asked me to cut my work short on this so I could crate it up and ship it to them a few states away for a factory training class. GE couldn't get them one, nor anyone in their giant metro area had one, so I was their only choice. The speed of which these are selling is insane.
For those of us that like to start a second load in the washer while the first is in the dryer, an all in one unit would actually make laundry take longer. I guess you could always buy two of these 😂
I have a GE stackable that’s 17 years old. I’ve replaced things on it and maintained it. It’s really showing it’s age. I’m glad I listened to this because I don’t want this machine. I really want to close off my dryer vent. I will invest in the dryer with a heat pump. I’ve used machines like this in Europe but they still are not completely drying the clothes.
Here in Brazil LG (and I believe Samsung as well) has the two in one models. What makes them very compact is that the drying method is not blowing hot air out but condensing the damp air with a cold water coil and draining it the same way as the rinsing water. That way they can be installed in closed rooms with little ventilation, apartments, under the sink or bathrooms. I love mine and won't trade it for nothing.
@@PlumbNutz I guess I didn't make my point very clearly. Having a heat pump that runs on 120v allows the unit to run at a much higher efficiency and thus use less energy.

The new ones had constant issues fixed under warranty, and then out of it. and eventually our entire unit was replaced. The thinQ app did let you download actual custom cycles, but it used to take 6-8hrs to do a full smallish load. I'd never buy LG again. The 1-5-10yr warranty on this one is appealing, as is the larger capacity and low energy use. Thanks!
Good job on your review. I just did the training class with GE yesterday and a teardown. It is an impressive machine, but I would disagree with you about a DIY capable heatpump module change out. It is a difficult repair and requires at least 2 people.

I lived in Germany in the 80's and they already had the all in one machines. They were way ahead of many countries. Thanks for the video, I am thinking about purchasing one.
I will be getting something like this when my current washer/dryer setup decides to die. Our utility room isn’t very big and 2 units in there basically gives you just enough room to walk in and out. It would be nice to have a little more room for storage or even a place to fold clothes. I think the biggest benefit to a unit like this is that you can put it anywhere that you have water, drain and a standard outlet. No special dryer power outlet or exhaust vent required. You could put this under a counter in a kitchen or in a bathroom, even in a garage. It also doesn’t draw in hot or cold outside air like a standard dryer, and of course it uses wayyyyyy less electricity. I don’t consider the time for a full cycle to be a big issue, it just requires a minor rethink on how you do laundry. Instead of loading it all in the middle of the day and expecting to fold it immediately afterwards, load it before you go to bed and fold it the next day. That’s what I do anyway, but as it is, I have to load it, wait for the washer to get done, transfer to the dryer and then go to bed. Having it all in one would be much better. Shifting things so that they happen overnight makes way more sense. I do this with tons of things already since electricity is much less expensive overnight since the grid load is less (things like drying clothes, running the dishwasher, charging my EV, etc)
If you leave dried clothes in the dryer all night, then fold in the morning, doesn't your stuff get insanely wrinkled? I fold immediately when dried to avoid wrinkles
Not having a dryer vent is a huge plus. I'm one of the ones with a 650. I'm the guy that had an IC take the control board out which shorted the drain pump. Been working great since I repaired it. This looks like a good unit.
The energy consumption of this machine is amazing!!! Definitely worth the cost for someone living off the grid and/or using solar panels. Also, I can't emphasize its convenience enough! It just feels nice to start the machine before going to work and start a de-wrinking cycle before getting back home and just folding the clothes.
i got this machine for about $1600 from home depot, this thang is a beast. i would say it spins 2x faster and longer compared to conventional front loading washer. best part is not having to unload. 10 year warranty is also amazing. the only draw back is that it's heavy, 306 lbs to be exact and trying to move it would be challenging but overall, i think this changes the whole washer/dryer industry b/c of that heat pump
I agree. I think this changes the entire washer dryer landscape permanently. Other companies will be forced to alter their combo designs. Why buy something that takes 4-6hrs when this can do it in half and for less electric?

I can't imagine that this machine would work for a large family, but it might be nice as a second unit in the master suite, or as a primary machine in a vacation home or ADU.
Thanks for the great effort on this unit. One thing though, normally when I do the wash I make sure that fabrics match so that towels and such are NEVER mixed with normal clothing.
Thanks so much for going more in depth than any other reviewer! All dryers clog with lint somewhere. As we saw, the filter compartment needed to be cleaned. But how much lint is getting past the filter and can you get at it to clean it? How much does a new sealed system cost? I need to buy a new combo soon!
The UltraFast creates less lint than average dryers because it's easier on clothes! Plus, the unit will notify you on the control screen AND through phone notifications, once connected to the SmartHQ app. Easy peasy! 😝

I plan to do exactly as you suggested. Buy one of these and keep the old pair for big loads and such. I am surprised by your loads. The thought of mixing all of those disparate items made by brain hurt! Guess I am old school. I do a load of towels, I never throw one towel in with a load of casuals.
It really has to do with the fact I'm an idiot and don't really do a lot of washing myself. That and I grabbed literally what I could at my shop for the first test, minus the clothes I bought for this & future tests.
I really want one of these for a few reasons. 1) energy efficiency, reducing energy bill and moving towards net zero 2) 110V power, if I want to put this in my walk in closet, I can simply pull a tap from the en suite bathroom for water and plug it into a regular wall outlet

This isn't a machine you'd want to replace 2 current machines for. But is absolutely head & shoulders better than anything else thats a single/combo unit I tink.
My brother lived in Japan for a few years where combo washer/dryer units are the norm. His was a heating element (I believe) and not a heat pump. It was him, his wife and three young kids and it was a hassle to do laundry. Each load took 2-3 hours and it was just one load at a time. He had to be judicious on when he washed bedding since starting that load at 7pm at night might mean a late bedtime when everything was dry.
My air conditioner went out, so RU-vid has been showing me all kinds of heat pump videos. This is by far one of the coolest I've seen. But using a heat pump like that I think is genius. Imo this will require much less maintenance than a typical dryer just by not having a vent. My vent is on the roof with several bends in the long tube, and is a pain in the ass. The filter is something everyone should be cleaning on all dryers anyways.
I think one unit is great, but what people forget is this unit will be used twice as much. So instead of having two separate units that are used for their specific functions. You have one unit that’s going to get double the use. This better have an amazing warranty.
Hilarious, it's a GE. I would not touch it with a 10' poll. If the appliance has the seal GE on it, I'm off in another direction. I actually beat up my last GE appliance knowing what I knew I thought this brand new GE profile washing machine had to be the best thing on the market. I was taking care of an elderly, dying mother and a baby at the same time & as luck would have it not only did the timer go on the washer but so did the transmission at the same time. I threw it out and purchased a Whirlpool again when they were still top notch.The gimmick they pushed at the time was GE Profile washers will never unbalance. Well, that was true because a broken washer will never become unbalanced.
Thank you for the review. You showed the final temp for the dryer to be around 100F, what is a normal gas/electric dryer's temp? The reason for the question is, some clothes shrink if you toss them in the dryer. With dehumidify drying instead of heat, I wonder if those same clothes can now be dried using the dryer without shrinking?
Oh man...our 7 year old washer/dryer is fine. But our tiny 5x7ft laundry room is also the garage to kitchen access. Getting rid of one unit would open up space to actually have a laundry table and not have to coordinate laundry day with grocery day. Couple that with a modular repair design you have a winner!
I have a LG Signature Washer Dryer combo and we like it but it’s been challenging for a family of 4 with cats. One feature he didn’t mentioned which is great, is that this heat pump dyer tech doesn’t use a dryer exhaust vent. So no need to hook it up to the wall but also it’s nice it’s not intaking and pumping out all of your heated/air conditioned air out of our house like a standard dryer would. Synergies well with our geothermal system to minimize electric costs. Lately though my unit has developed a scraping sound during the dry cycle only which is annoying for sure but it seems to perform the same. Anyone have any ideas of what the issue is?
Matt Ferrell did a video on the Miele Heat Pump dryer. One of the things he noted was that basically giving the slightly damp clothes a few snappy shakes and they felt dry. He attributed this to the high moisture levels inside the drum.
