The Best Way to Choose Between RAW and Jpeg 

I'm sure I missed something...why do you like RAW or Jpeg?

Gotta say...for my needs as a budding amateur/hobbyist sports photographer, you have the most relevant and thoughtfully explained content out there. By far. But I'm still torn. I have my cameras set to take both. Storage and buffering aren't an issue, so I'm looking at the end product and how to get there. For me, it's about the workflow and the law of diminishing returns. If I have to process several hundred images using Canon DPP4 to crop, straighten, adjust exposure, white and color balance, then use Topaz to sharpen and denoise..... It would take hours and hours, and how much better would those images be compared to JPG with less editing and less time invested? If they are going to be printed for framing, or posted on a website, how much do I really need to edit them? How sharp do they really need to be? How much noise is acceptable? I guess I'll keep trying to find a good balance between effort and end product. My gut tells me to work with JPG, and if that doesn't work, either try to deal with the RAW files or try to adjust my camera settings to get the JPGs better in-camera.

I shot a baseball game on RAW once by accident. 1000 RAW photos. What a nightmare. Did not even know where to start. Ended up just deleting the whole file. I would need an editing RAW photo training class to ever consider it. 100% Jpeg for me. So much easier in my sport shooting. I tried RAW on some milky way shots and had no idea how to edit. Zero experience with RAW.

When I'm shooting during the day i use Jpeg sometimes but once the sun is about to start setting i switch to RAW. That's for sports and event stuff. Landscape and wildlife is 100% RAW only
