This is a step by step guide to the best way that I have found to cut down vintage and antique bottles and upcycle them. There are some tools that are required but I have tried to keep these as basic as possible. I hope some of you find this useful and can now cut down some of your own bottles.
Check out my shop on Etsy where you can buy some of the things that I find: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/VintageP...
If you would like to support my channel please pop over to Ko-fi where you can donate the price of a coffee/beer to help me keep making these videos:

To each their own personally. I found taking a bottle cutter scoring the bottle and taking it over a candle flame and dipping it in ice water was the best for me. 9/10 came out perfectly clean cuts doing so and no rest of glass dust particles. I do sand them down on the edges but with a mask on just was warned too many times about that crap getting in your lungs. Good video though!

These are brilliant, you've put a fair bit of work into those bottles, but it does mean that there is another use for many of those broken finds that a lot of people just leave behind, I've seen various other cutting methods used from angle grinding, to scoring with a glass cutter & heating the scoring line until it cracks apart. It surprising how thick the old bottles were, compared to modern ones which are sometimes only 3 or 4 mm thick.
@VintageParagonUk
@VintageParagonUk 2 года назад
Thank you! Cheers! it seems a bit of a waste to leave them behind with all the nice embossing and colours. The codd bottles are really thick, sometimes over 10mm so the scoring method doesn't work so well on them but for me this is deffo the best way to do it 👍

Great video - well explained! We use very similar methods too. That glass cutting blade seems a great investment though - I need to get one! I've got some small diamond burr needle files, but those larger ones are the business! Just off to Amazon now..! Nice work! :)

@@VintageParagonUk Definitely getting some of those larger files. I know you thought they would be bigger, but they're easily double the size of my ones! Gonna order them now! :)

I have found that using granite countertop polishing pads on a drill press arbor is a fantastic way to polish bottles. The first grit (50 I think?) Does a fine job of grinding out the imperfections and squaring the top of the glass. Every grit after that takes less and less time. It's good for smoothing everything but the inside of the rim! I'll be uploading a video on my own process soon.

Did you mention brick acid? What is it, where does one obtain it and would I be harmful if it accidentally got into someone's tea? Asking for a friend.
@VintageParagonUk

Yes, it is the name of a cocktail that is all the rage with the youngsters, if you pop into a wetherspoons I am sure they could rustle one up for you 😂👍 probably wouldn't go well with tea though 😕

What is the make and model of the cutting machine, or do you have a link? The ones I’ve found are a little to expensive to justify for the amount of use. Thanks
