@@chipfixx There's actually a RU-vidr named ChrisFix and in his intros he says "Hey guys, ChrisFix here.!" So Nathan is being humorous by saying " Hey guys, ChipFix here!"
The cheaper and more classic way of fixing it is 1. get a touch up paint, touch it up or make a blob over the chip. 2. take the acetone, put it on the cloth and gently 'level' down the blob to make it flat with surrounding. 3. polish. Exact same idea as this so called chip repair kit. the leveling liquid they sell is basically same as acetone. If you dont want to use the acetone? you can also mix acetone and car polish and make a leveling lotion.
casiotechI no squeegee. Use toothpick and dab it. U want to create a blob that is higher than surrounding so that you can level it later. Use thinner or acetone.
I have a chip (not too deep) but it is about the size of a dime plus one scratch and several small dings like in this video from driving with a lot of big trucks on the highway. So does this mean I can put a blob of paint in the chip, let it sit for a few minutes, and take nail polish remover (acetone or non acetone?) And wipe off the rest like in this video? I just dont want it to look like crap because it's a MB that I'd like to keep looking as nice as possible.
I have years of paint repair experience. First off, the color will shrink by the next day. The color is the base coat will dry semi gloss. The best way is to dab the color( base coat) using a paint such as RM or Dupont Chromabase or one of the usual high quality paints used in a reputable body shop. Take some urethane( compatible to the paint system) catalyzed clear coat ( mixed in the proper ratio ) add half the usual reducer called for and using a dabber stick. Looks like a tooth pick with a miniature cotton ball on the end and dab enough clear to just fill the hole raised above the surface. Let dry over night. Come back the next morning use a small piece of paint stirring stick. About half inch by three quart inch. Wrap a strip of 1500 grit wet or dry sandpaper several times. So it wraps maybe 8-10 times around the wood block ( it should be about 1/8th thick block). Now with water from a spritz bottle get your block wet and sand the blob of clear back and forth with light to medium pressure until the blob of clear is level. Then go to a 3000 grit and 6 to 10 wet strokes just a little larger then before.Finish with 5000 grit wet or dry. Buy a polish like System 51 polish. You can use an electric buffer or hand rub your factory paint with a micro finishing shop cloth. I recommend System 51 because the compound does not breakdown. It's the compound breakdown that causes the dark colors to look hazy when buffed. I use the same technique for fisheyes in fresh paint. Practice makes perfect. All paint shrinks when it dries. This is why you want to pimple it just above the surface to allow for shrinkage and block sanding. Hope this is helpful.
Crazy good results! This kit would go hand in hand with the paintless dent repair process. Sometimes we’ll fix dents that have minor chips in the paint....this would be the icing on the cake in those scenarios ....thanks for sharing!!
You can, but he did mention to be generous with the leveler Bc there’s not enough to go around. So I’m assuming you’d waste a lot trying to level the paint
I let dry and then re hit the chips 2 times and they were perfectly filled. I also on the second round I used a flat surface old credit card to gently rub the excess paint off and what it did was make it perfectly filled in and level.
There's nothing wrong with filling the chips before you correct the paint as long as the touch up has time to cure before correcting...in fact I prefer doing it that way as it leaves an even better result. But yes the chips must be clean before filling them regardless. And if the chip isn't filled by the touch up, you can repeat the process until it is...using a hair dryer to cure the touch up paint in between applications speeds up the process.
I just want to leave a review which combines topics covered in a few of your videos. I followed your advice on my Equinox 2013. I spent a whole weekend on my car. Pressure washed it. Did the headlights. Washed it with the two bucked method. Dried with waffle towel. Clay bar the whole car. Then I used Dr. Chip Fix (which went fairly well, but my paint ships were really big). Polished and Compounded. Then Waxed. My SUV has never looked this good. I bought it in 2014 (was fairly new), and even then, I cannot remember it looking this good. The color has completely changed, it look amazing! To all of you who are thinking about following Canadian Riders advice, All I have to say it, take you time, follow all the steps, and you will 100% be satisfied with the results! Thank You so much!
I've been doing this same process for years to fill in lettering on firearm receivers. Nothing more than enamel paint and acetone. You don't need any special kit. The only issue would be if you had some custom pearl paint that would be hard to match. Gloss black is easy as it gets.
Hi, i know you made this comment a long time but i could use some advice. If i get the genuine touch up pen which is exactly the colour code for my car, can i use it and then use the acetone to level it?
@@markfinc8656 yea, I’m curious too. Got a chip on my bumper today I gotta fix before I clear wrap the front. My appointment isn’t for another 2 weeks :(
I wonder how a Mirka S-BLADE Shark Blade Denibbing Tool would be for removing the paint crown? I mean it removes runs in paint. I might give it a try if I get one of these kits.
talked to ding master here in Tampa and he said all it is touch-up paint from dealer and lacquer thinner. Because the lacquer thinner will not harm color plus clear coat paint which is most new cars today. He advised to buy the correct color using your vin number at the parts counter of your dealer or brand of car. Also to practice on a chip that is not front and center on your car so you get good at it. But i still gave the thumbs up on this video because it shows his technique. Many people below say Acetone but Ding Master said to pick up lacquer thinner anywhere because it will not lift up acrylic paint unless you leave a soaked rag of thinner on your car overnight. Hope this helps. its what i am doing.
I googled it and lacquer thinner is stronger than acetone which what the master said its true. I appreciate the comment and thank you for saving me 50$ since i already have the touch up paint.
That would of been great you measure the paint thickness around the chip before and after see if the "solution" actually removed some clear of the actual paint.
Man I understand exactly what you're talking about it's just a passion and a hobby. At the end of the day it's a bunch of Steel and metal and gasoline combusting with two seats and some paint.
Ok so I'm trying to get my 2007 Lexus ES 350 paint look amazing like before. Do I do the paint correction before or after I ceramic coat? and the same goes for buffing the paint as well. I will wash and clay bar first. But then do I do paint correction after and then do buff/ceramic coat? Since I have some rust on my paint, can I use paint correction, the rust is not that bad except for a spot in the back by the trunk. lastly aside from paint correction, anyone know about fixing a pretty big crack in the front bumper on passenger side? Thank you person for responding.
Yes but then you have to seal it the the putty doesn’t soak in the moisture from the paint and also spot putty is mixed with water and you cant put that directly on metal cause it will most likely rust under the paint. Need to be primed or something. Body filler would be better as putty can shrink as well when it gets cold.
I have a white GTI and tried Dr Colorchip and wasn't impressed. The color didn't even match after a few months and turned into a darker/off white color. If they can't even get white correct I don't have much faith in them.
as a side not, you can add multiple layers if it isn't filled. The idea is to fill the "hole" above the baseline of the panel. So you have a mound of paint. As it dries, it will shrink because the reducer releases from the actual paint pigment. So it's important to 1) use a bondo spreader and a cloth over it so that you don't take too much paint material out of the hole. 2) do one or two passes, STOP. Evaluate. 1 or 2 paseses and repeat....
But when you use the leveler, isn't it not only going to remove the paint around the chip but also any paint that filled in the chip? So chip will always be a bit lower than the surrounding surface. It's not like the leveler knows where the chip is and avoids removing the paint only in that area.
@@dtsect It will remove the paint around the chip, and level the "bubble" you created within the chip, making it even with the painted panel. With experience, being a pro, your end result will be a FLUSH chip :)
This is pretty amazing! I have a 2023 Audi RS3 in Turbo Blue, not had it that long and already got 3 chips on the bonnet :(. I'm in the UK and need a product like this!
@@waynedharsan5288 I am curious about this process on my Mercedes 2020 which has a minor chip and was thinking to go the paint pen route. The paint is tri-coat Digital White Metallic and according to www.automotivetouchup.com that sells paint pens they suggest a primer paint pen, my color which needs a groundcoat and a midcoat and then a clear coat on top. Hence the tri-coat paint. They sell all 4 paint pens for $34. Any thoughts
Amazing! I’ve just purchased my dream rig, a 2008 Trail Teams FJ Cruiser and it’s got north of 200 hundred stone chips. I think you may have just saved me a week
I have 3 deep gouges on the back of my white Kia that my dog did when learning how to jump into a new vehicle. I "fixed" them with 3 white oracal 651 decals I made shaped like tiny paw prints 🙂
How much for touch up paint, how much are they paying you for this add?! Pros don't use this stuff it too expensive! Get the colour code for your car in the spray can and spray it into the cap of the can then apply it with a good thin artist brush, allow the dry for ten minutes then T-cut off the excess and gently over the chip, then polish when the paint is almost dry and the chip is virtually gone at close inspection, this costs a fraction of the price with a better result and can be used thousands of times more than the one you want us guys to pay for!
the way I did it..: 1. bought a bondo spot putty from Canadian tire. 2. filled the chip using a plastic cutter, let it dry and sanded gently with 2000. 3. sprayed the spot with a match paint, two layers. 4. sanded with 3000 grit from 3M scratch remover kit. 4. Applied rubbing compound using a pad. 5. polished. You cannot even notice where it was.
You said "lightly" wipe the solution over the paint you just applied to the chip and there is no doubt in my mind you are there SCRUBBING that solution onto the panel!
My friend has to remove that “paint protection film” at his job and he sees damage from that stuff all the time. Maybe it’s from the strong sun and heat down here in Florida but he says that those films will eventually ruin the paint underneath.
Hello everyone from UK. Here we get Chipex, same goo different label. Amazing stuff, has a 24 month shelf life. If you happen to run out of the finisher ( clear fluid) you can use isopropyl alcohol instead. I'm not saying they are both the same product but they both give identical results. Gr8 vid Geeze 👍 Nice ride btw
I have used Dr. Color Chip on 3 different vehicles with great results. It's important to know that the blending solution only works with the matching paint. It does not work well with any other brand paint as I learned with one of my vehicles. Great video CR!
Hey Keith! Thanks for sharing the results you had as well and I think you shared a great point that the leveler solution really does work well only with the supplied paint as it has a higher solid count and was designed to be used with the leveler solution specifically
hey man, great video! We have a drcolorchip here in Aus, so I'm keen to give this a go. For the odd random chip, wouldnt it be better to mask around the chip and only smear the paint over the chip alone or is that a waste of time because the solution removes all the surrounding paint anyway?
Yes but you would need to make sure that you completely fill the chip. Thanks for the compliments man welcome to the channel and hopefully you can get your chips fixed!
@@marvino7132 first off, after you use the paint pen... Give it a few days and let it cure. It's going to look ugly in that process. But after that come and sand it down even with 2,000 grit. Sand it until it's even with the rest of the panel and when you run your fingers across, you can't feel the difference. After that same with 3,000 grit and sand past or overlap the 2000 grit slightly. Then compound, then polish. It won't be 100% better but it will be around 95% and the only way you can tell is if you up close on it 1 inch away
@@Dee--Jay yea. I finished the the touch up process. My mounds seem a little high i just finished adding the clearcoat this morning. Kit says i should wait 5 days. Lol it does look ugly for now
BEWARE !!!!! I had a chip I wanted to repair on my brand new Porsche Panamera in Volcano Grey, ordered the kit from Chipfixx and received what looked like black, I thought well they know best let me use it maybe it dries grey… it didn’t… now I have a black mark on my car, I told them the issue and they said they will send me a light grey so I can mix it myself to get the color!!!! I had to take my car to a professional paint shop to have them fix the mess Chipfixx caused.
I have a 2019 Mazda mx5Rf, Soul Red, Yesterday i received a deep stone chip right in the middle of the hood, i managed to get the small dent out with a hot cold method ... yes !!! ..it really worked ... really..!! Now i have this mark that is down to the base that really annoys me ... tried polishing .. forget it, ... tried paint stick.. looked worst than before ... Can you help me.. with advice... will send photo to you.. Wonderful site, thank you ... Raymond
I messed up my cars paint trying to fix scrapes & rock chips. I sanded down small areas all around the car. 😢 front, rear bumper Driver & passenger side. I been quoted a high cost to repaint the whole car. Can this product or anything else help me salvage my cars paint. Only little areas have been sanded down, used dupli color paint pen Honda Modern Metallic Steel & Dupli color spray paint. Can anyone please help with advice
That depends on your perspective. I have a black car. Not only does it show every chip and swirly, but it gets dirty almost immediately after cleaning. Never again will I buy a black car! Though it does look good for a few nanoseconds after cleaning.
That’s why I will never buy another black car. Chips so easily with the paint always heating up while driving in the sun. Making it easier for any rock to chip away at it.
LOL dance like no one is watching! And you did lol. Thanks for putting this video up. I'll be buying the Chip Fixx going forward instead of Dr. Color Chip. Happy to use Canadian made products when ever possible 😁
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else needs to find out about painting a car with can spray paint try Jaffacter Paint Sprayer Coach (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my colleague got great results with it.
Perfect for my son's 2015 Scion TC Limited Edition, has several small chips and three big chips. Thanks for the inexpensive and easier way of repairing those expensive chip repairs. Awesome video.
Wow! Looks amazing! I have a black RS4 with similar paint chips on the frontal area, and will definitely invest in this! Just went in for full paint correction and protection job, and super happy with the results except for the paint chips - but not interested in re-spraying the front area. This is much better solution :)
Okay so me and you have the same problems. Exactly for any kind of minor Stone chips here and there this is the ultimate solution. I was super impressed with the results even for a anal person like me when it comes to paint. 95% of the small to medium paint chips I had literally disappeared the camera couldn't even focus on it anymore. Any major ones like the two described in the video on the front of my hood produced it by 80% you cannot even see it taking a step back.
Thanks for your reply, and keep posting videos on your R8 - a black one like yours is the only car I would swap my 2008 RS4 sedan for haha. My other car is a 2000 BMW M Coupe with 42k km and in showroom condition:) Also anal about caring for my cars haha. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for supporting the channel man more than anything it's the support from you guys that keep the channel going! The 2008 RS4 are actually very beautiful you're very lucky and you have a nice BMW M Coupe wow only 42000 km that's insane. Where in Canada are you located?
Nope, all the way in Africa haha. Live in Cape Town South Africa, but my daughter lives in Vancouver. So I might pop in sometime in the not-too-distant future! Have been to Canada 4 or 5 times and love your country:)
Oh that's funny my best friend's husband is from Cape Town! Glad to know you're loving your visits here I actually have never been to Vancouver myself but I plan to do this summer:-)
i have to do all that work with the power tools before using the kit? i don't have any of that stuff, nor do i have a garage. was hoping to just be able to use the kit without all that crazy stuff beforehand. i just bought a beautiful shadow black lincoln Mkz less than 3 weeks ago, and was behind someone and they kicked up a hardcore rock that chipped my hood in like 5 different spots. so annoying since i just bought the damn car and it was CLEAN!
The "chips" aren't even chips. Watch at 3:09 middle and upper left, loads of untreated "chips" that vanish too! Amazing what a few specs of polish or wax can do to make you think it's a chip on camera. Not convinced dude....not a chance.
Thank you! I bought a black BMW 540 M sport around 8 months ago and have been scratching my head on how to repair some chips on the nose and hood. This looks perfect! Thanks again! Great video!
Will it work with touch up paint from the OEM? Meaning, is all the magic in the leveler or does the paint from them have something in it as well needed for the final result? Asking bc I need it for a motorcycle. Thanks.
You make it look so easy. Sadly I just don't have the confidence. I have a spot on the edge of my hood about 1/4" down to the metal. It bothers me but it would bother me even more if I jacked it up. Good video , I will have to sleep on it before I make the decision to try this or go get an estimate. Doesn't help that seven year old Starfire Pearl is difficult to match.
Had my '21 vehicle for 1 year and 26,000 miles (41,000km) and it has exactly 8 rock chips, all minor. The three on the hood are most concerning because of potential rust. Thanks for the video. You're a cool guy!
Save yourself $70 Buy touch up paint pen from your dealer $15 fill in chip, dont worry if you put too much just let dry properly then use a clean folded soft cloth with some laquer thinner on it and remove all the excess paint leaving the paint only in the chip, you will get the same exact results this is not magic formula!
If the chip is less than 1/10 the surface area of a pencil eraser but it has rust, no bubbling or damage to the surrounding paint, do you need to remove that before priming? I bought a ceramic spot sanding pen and it's very difficult to work on such a small spot.
Bro... changed my world with this video! I am planning to do the same for my white Mercedes. Looking to buy Langka blob eliminator for leveler as I don’t need whole damn kit (Id rather use Mercedes branded exact match touch up paint) - would that work as well? Another question is - why didn’t you fill the larger chips so that they are leveled?
