I once heard caffeine is the most addictive drug. I disagree, I think sugar is far more addictive. The point Dr. Berg makes about just going cold turkey is a good idea.
I'm in my sixties now, and I tell the younger generations that sugar is today's poison, replacing tobacco. It's like a society being able to vote itself getting money.
Thanks Dr Berg, I have one cheat day a week where I eat sugar...but as I started keto and IF, my cheat days arent so great anymore because I feel like crap aftwards and its really noticeable because of eating right all week. I think it may be time to cut my sugar cheat day to maybe once a month..lol
Same..sort if. Haven't gone keto but if I slip up with something very sweet, next day feel like been hit by a bus. Seems there is no middle ground and cheat days are actually just a way to screw yourself
Why don't you cut your "Sugar day" forever instead? I don't see a point why someone will poison themselves on purpose when they realize how awful the sugar actually is?
I quit sugar cold turkey a week ago and so far my body is feeling a lot better. The first 3 days are probably the most challenging but once I powered through that it starts to become easier. Cravings for food in general also lessened.
Dr. Berg, thank you so much for all your video's on health. I've been off sugar for eleven days now and practicing intermittent fasting. My skin is beginning to clear up and I'm feeling great. I plan to continue this clean way of eating and following your great advice. Many thanks from Newfoundland Canada
I've stopped sugar for the last 4 days. The first 2 days were horrible. Walking through the shopping centre was terrible, you really realise how much sugar they are throwing at us absolutely everywhere.
Dr Berg, you're right! I'm at the end and it really hasn't been that difficult! I'm shocked! I try to eat mostly low carb with healthy fat. But a few carbs turns into way too many. Even donuts! 😱 But cutting out sugar this way? I can do this! Thank you!
I really appreciate your program ❤. I started 2 days ago totally give up sugar and after 2 days feeling already much better!😂❤❤❤ no more sugar, never again!
I quit sugar and carbs four years ago and everything Dr. Berg just said is true! Just throw every sugar laden, carb heavy "food" in the trash and start over with organic real food and see the difference in days.
Carnivore, and specifically BBBE, and thus the elimination of all sugar, has changed my entire way of thinking about food. All of you that advocate for life without sugar, are saving countless lives and improving the quality of life of many people. You are a blessing from God. I am so grateful. Your content is amazing and I enjoy and learn from your videos. There is absolutely nothing good about sugar. Period.
I've been off sodas for 2 days now and I'm hoping I can stay off them for good. I'm drinking mire water and watching what I eat. I just went 24 hrs without caffeine or sugar I was having brain fog, a mild headache, irritability, blurred vision. I'm hoping my body will adjust and I can get through this.
I quit all forms of desserts 2.5 years back. I went cold turkey as a part of my spiritual process. I just decided - from now, I am not eating any more sweets. I do crave cakes or cookies or chocolates sometimes. But there is no irresistible urge. I can easily get over it. I bake cakes and I make a ton of Indian sweets. But I don’t try even one bite of any these.
1:54 I was *fully* adapted to ketones, but still I ALWAYS missed chocolate, cookies, cakes, doughnuts, fruits, pizza, white bread, cheese, etc...all the sweet, yummy stuff 😭
I eat a piece of dark chocolate each day. It's not more than a gram or two of sugar. Especially if you manage to eat one piece and not the whole bar, then I can recommend it. I eat it right after my dinner.
@@featherlightwellness1361 i fasted, quit cold turkey sugar, gluten, rice, white bread, junk food, fruits, everything dr berg says... Only ate protein / fat / low carbs
Great video once again,I'm so glad an exited that I have started Keto 10 days ago and already lost 3 kg,thanks to you doctor, this channel is where I first heard of Keto,so glad for this, greetings from S.A.
I have given up taking a lot of sugar in the last few years of being on the internet, watching stuff like this! including sometimes fasting17-18 hours a day "chocolate bars" like a Mars Bar or Twix is a proper treat, and sweet strawberry supermarket yogurt the hard part is just having one, but am a former/failed Catholic it's ok not much and i really do feel a whole lot younger (in my fifties, so a great relief!)
Oh my gosh doctor Berg you hit the nail on the head I've been watching your videos for years and I'm still addicted to sugar I did leave alcohol in the rear view mirror though super happy about that
I'm a sugar addict. It's no different from any other substance abuse. It's not just a craving for me. It took me over 2 weeks to feel in control over sugar. At the time it wasn't in the house so I didn't eat it. But I ate dried fruit, regular fruit, or things like potatoes and bananas. The day I allowed added sugar back into my life, a one time small amount at Easter, I went right back to needing it and craving it and not being able to stop myself. Like an Addict. So I'm not a success story - YET!
I have a huge sugar addiction! I am beginning to worry 😢 while I was looking for a program to help me with my addiction… I found Dr. Berg’s video ❤ going to buy the HCT oil and begin tomorrow. Any particular HCT oil you recommend? Love your videos!
Unlike alcohol and nicotine , sugar is in so many foods you have to look at how much sugar is in them . I gave up alcohol & smoking and it was a withdrawal process but over and done with ! Sugar is much harder because you can’t complete eliminate it from your diet !
Maybe this is mentioned elsewhere in the comments but… is eating fruit, dates and other high (natural) sugary fruit included in this ? Can you eat as much fruit as you want. But stop with the refined sugar…? Is that the message here
I wanna get off white rice, potatoes, bread, and sugar. From tomorrow, 15th May 2023, I wanna go cold turkey. I can't deal. I'm working out, but for some reason, my body just gains back the weight I lose and goes to the weight I was. It seems to be stuck on 85kg. I don't go over that number. Guess because I weighed 85kg for so long it feels comfortable and goes back to it. 😅
Dr Berg, what's your take on "maple honey," coconut sugar, and "alulosa"? What are the differences between those items (not sure if I can call them "foods") and sugar? I know regular honey is an actual food.
I gave up sugar for 2 weeks, that is added sugar and felt nothing...but just been sad of my coffee tasting weird. Something to consider is that I’m heavy on carbs, specially bread.. and rice :)
I’ve been on the carnivore diet for a month now and although the weight loss has been great, I feel I could ash at any moment. The sugar cravings haven’t gone away
Generally I agree with the overall message, but 2 days of adaption time seems to me too short. I did a keto diet and the first week I feel like I was ill. After that the second week I felt good. To be honest I didn't use MCT oil or other "ketone" products. The only think I'm afraid I'd the micro biome is good without fibers.
Whenever I give up sugar, the cravings totally disappear after 72 hours but the moment I re start the ADDICTION kicks in within minutes. Sometimes making me get out of bed to grab a snack. A legal drug.
I reduced carbs, but only 2 or 3 days per week I go close to the 30 grams level, 35 or 40 grams , while the remaining 4 or 5 days I take 50 or 60 grams of carbs. My eating window is 5 hours, from 12.30 to 17.30 with no snacks. 0 calories for 19 hours.
Is a little bit of organic maple syrup ok?i just learned today that coconut oil is made up of 54 % MCT oil which is awesome.. I’ll add a little bit of the coconut oil in my coffee
I only eat basic vegetables and fruits and use a lot of seasoning and herbs. Sugar beyond the natural one is not a thing for me. Guess it makes a difference being a citizen of former Yugoslavia...
Haven't had a slice of apple pie or dates which I also enjoy in 10 days. Can't say I feel good about it. Miss a good slice of pie with some strawberries and a glass of coconut milk, unsweetened of course. Heavy sigh. Having a glass of wine now. On a good note, I've eaten only some salmon and cheese, and olives for lunch. No supper. Plan on fasting till 5:30 tomorrow morning. Lunch was at 10:00 A.M. I've lost 4 Lbs. Down to 135. But more importantly is my blood sugar.
I think I've may be 'Dr Berg resistant'. 3:26. I am one of those exact people that watch all of your videos and yet still can't stop having sugar in my diet every week.😜
Good day. I'm a 'drug' addict (sugar that is). I consume sweets, chocolates, biscuits, coca cola etc every day. I stay slim as I'm really active. I'm just a little concerned that at 66 yrs old and lean, that I will lose more weight without sugar. I would assume that my blood pressure reading would improve as I'm currently 150/90. Any ideas on this please.
I could only do this if I went to a Health Spa that would supply the correct type of food at set meal times as well as any supplements. I know I could not do it on my own. I drink too much tea with sugar added as well as chocolate cravings.
@Dr Eric Berg DC : Ive started to cut off sugars and have eaten twice a day from 4 days ago now. I had a kidney cancer which was removed at the beginning of the year. Since then i dont feel good at all so i kept on searching for the reason. Now, as i saw your videos, i think my sugarconsume could've been a big factor causing this cancer. That's why i threw myself into a cold turkey and stayed there. But now my urine foams and smells like ive eaten too much sugar though i havent at all. My mouth is also in very bad condition. May it be that i shouldnt start a diet with current inflamations, chronically very big lack of sleep and just one Kidney? Im a little afraid my second kidney give up now. (ofc not because Im dieting) -Or is it possible that my body is still busy filtering sugar out of my body? As far as i know this is not possible after 4 days, right? 😅 Soo, i dont know if i could keep on going or if this may be a good sign and the smelly urine and breath is made of this ketonebased diet. Feasting and cutting off sugars is so damn easy right now cause im never hungry or have appetite this days and because of so much illnesses i am ttly broke as well so even if im temptated, i m not able to buy stuff which isnt healthy. Its already a problem to buy everything in good quality. Im glad, that in germany we have a very good tap water quality at least 😅 ... So id really like to get on with that but besides those stuff i already wrote i have bad headaches too and a little grumpy stomach. I feel like it is caused by the transformation and as it seems i have to deal with regulating the microbes in my guts and my blood sugar for a while before i catch some good feelings, am i right? And the lack of sleep makes it worse but not keep on following this sugar free path is no Option. I dont know, are those just the usual junkie transformation doubts? It would help if you could tell me if 1. The smell is caused by ketones 2. How long can this smell hold? Will it stay now as long as im ketonic? Ah forgot to stay, i just feast for healthy reasons in cause of having just one Kidney left, not for getting slim. Im 1,90m in height and 78kg athletic muscles and bones 😅 all my life i never had more than almost 10 percent bodyfat. No matter how much i ate Sincerly**
It's not just the sugar it's the hidden sugar that's the real problem because you have to constantly watch what people put in front of you when they serve food in a restaurant and other social eating issues
I have eaten Keto diet for over a year now and my nails are very brittle with vertical ridges. So brittle that they break when I try to cut them. Any suggestions to help with this, thanks.
I succesfully spent 20 days with no added sugar, I feel more active and energetic. But I'm concerned what to do on my birthday.....how do I make sure I don't go back to sugar...how to permanently keep away from sugar??
Hello. You need to find alternatives. For sugar, you can use stevia or monk fruit. Please see here more alternative suggestions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LkBbrbnVnOc.html -Dr. Berg's Support Team
Most people don't realise how much sugar they are eating and drinking because it is in everything. Cut 1 thing out of your diet - sugar - and watch the weight fall off.
I been struggling with this disgraceful thing for years. I can come off. I did it many times. I can go for weeks without it. And then one day I relapse and go back all over again. I have done this hundreds of time and I am so annoyed and even feel hopeless! :-(
@@joliecide That's wat l don't get...l used to drink and stopped. Never went back. This sugar thing is a different story. I did keto and my cravings did stop. I was good for 21 days. The problem is that it doesn't "stay away"...
I quit smoking 2 years ago after smoking for 16 years. Wasn't easy but I did it. I stopped taking sugar yesterday and I already know why it's harder. EVERYONE at home is pushing sugar towards me. My wife gave me a cookie, my in laws placed a cup of tea in front of me and my 2 year old baby had a tantrum when she pushed a cookie in my direction and I refused to eat it. When I quit smoking, I'm the only one who even knew I quit.
The fastest way to get off sugar is to fast. Clean out the entire house. Stay away from the donuts at the gas station by never going inside. Take a walk. Just fasting and walking is so helpful to me!
That’s pretty hard to do when you have other people in the house. I can’t control what my wife and my kids eat my kids are old enough to decide for him selves (
Dr Berg, I quit sugar cold turkey on September 11th of this year. At that time I weighed 275lbs and I’m 5’10”. I felt tired at the end of the work day to the point and had no energy to do anything. I haven’t changed to a keto diet but I cut out added sugar and bread of any kind. I have lost a total of 19lbs over the past 5 weeks with just my change in diet. It was amazing to see this happen with very little exercise. I have cravings for sugar sometimes but I just think of the weight I have lost and the work it took to make it this far (yes, this took a lot of work over 5 weeks to not give in to my cravings) and I just fight through it. My initial goal was just to make it 30 days. I extended that to 90 days and once I hit that I’m going to go an entire year. Hopefully, I can make this a life changing event. Thank you for the inspiration!! Your videos have really given me the motivation to want to change and start eating better.
Congratulations! You’re on the right track! 🙂 If it’s any encouragement to you, I lost over 60 lbs with very little excercise also, simply by changing my diet. It’s very exciting isn’t it? The 19 lbs you lost is just the beginning. Assuming you have more to lose, like I did. 😉 Best wishes for continued success!
@@stephanieyoung3198 That’s exactly how much I want to lose! Thank you so much for the encouragement! It’s very exciting to see this much change in such a short period of time. I was discouraged before because I kept gaining weight and I wasn’t doing anything to lose it. I thought being 275+ was going to be my future. It was scary because my father weighed the same or more before he had two strokes. I already deal with HBP and high cholesterol so I was really concerned for my future. Im hoping to continue on this path and having a supportive community like this is all that I need. Thank you so much for your encouraging words!
This is a good start but you should give your body the power to destroy the fat and truly give your body the fuel it needs. I switched to full healthy keto. Not buying tons of supplements or anything else. But now I feel happy again tons of energy and lost 50 pounds in 3 months. My dr was like way to go eating low fat and exercising. My liver numbers are normal now and my wife did this also and has lost over 50! Also. Just do this for 3 months then re evaluate your health you won’t regret it. My pain is gone and can’t believe how much better I feel.
I’m quitting sugar cold turkey tonight! Be back for updates. ☺️ Update: DAY 2 still going strong. I haven’t even thought about eating sugar or junk food. I think once you officially decide you’re DONE it’s easy after that. DAY 3 sleeping is absolute trash. Lol I’ve been waking up each hr of night. I know it will get better. Other than that no hunger at all. Energy is normal. I’ve added jump roping at the park and noticed I didn’t get winded AT ALL! Also HELLLLOOO smooth skin and flatter tummy! ✨✨✨ DAY 4: sleep was BETTER i am able to fall asleep fast and I only woke up once at 2am. So progress. Also I noticed that when I run or jump rope etc. my heart is beating fast but I’m not gasping for air like I’m about to pass out. So it’s safe to say my arteries aren’t so clogged up anymore. Also my cracked skin on my heels are GONE!!! A lot of people are already commenting about the weight loss benefits. So I wanted to touch a lot more on the other benefits too. Side note: If anyone is curious on the foods I’ve eaten so far I’ve mostly stuck with Salmon, Tuna and shrimp, cheese and veggies. I plan on trying a really juicy buttery steak this week. 🤤 My stomach is flatter and now a little definition on my arms. And most importantly still NO CRAVINGS what so ever. It’s almost like maybe weren’t meant to eat food to begin with. LOL Just a thought be back later. DAY 7: still going strong! ✨I SLEPT AMAZING✨ Woke up at 5am feeling great! Waist is much smaller. No cravings whatsoever. Just keeping it pescatarian these days. 2 meals a day and 1 green tea 1 coffee not snacking at all DAY 12: ugh! So I had a cheat day yesterday. With home made shrimp rice and egg rolls. Very good. But made me feel like crap. GASSY stomach hurt. I had been refraining from getting on the scale because I’ve been seeing the physical changes which was good enough for me. Slimmer face, arms, legs, and waist. Until I got on the scale today. “DUN DUN DUUUNNN!” I only lost 1lb. HOW?!!!!! That made me super discouraged and wanting to give up. But I am super grateful for having my energy and feeling good throughout the day. I can’t go back now. Wish me luck. ✨✨✨ONE MONTH!!!!!✨✨✨ So far feeling better than ever. Still no sugar. When I do slip up I feel yucky the next day. 🤮 So I avoid it at all cost. I’ve been doing the pescatarian thing. No heavy meats and I have been trying to stay away from processed junk as much as possible. Also I realized I haven’t been so hard on myself tracking carbs etc because it works better when you don’t feel like you’re on a diet. It’s more of a lifestyle change. I haven’t gotten back on the scale yet. But I see HUGE changes in my stomach flat. Annoying Back roll is almost gone. My energy is AMAZING. I sleep the entire night through. And no stomach issues.
@@LuxeGirlLeAndria way to go! I'm starting day four. Thing is, I've done real well making sure I track my carbs. I've had a couple of diet Dr peppers this past weekend...I wonder if they affect anything, even though there's no sugar/carbs😂🤷♀️. I've eaten chicken breast, tuna, hamburger ( we raise beef and process our own)....lots of veggies. To be honest, I don't really feel that different. I don't really see a difference physically yet. It's ok. I did notice my knees not as sore. I'd like to also know if anyone uses monk fruit. It's zero glycemic index, but is it considered sugar-free?
@@lisastump1385 I haven’t tried any sweeteners like monk fruit etc. because I’m noticing that I’m not craving anything AT ALL. Literally have to remind myself to eat two meals per day. Haha Also I think if you keep going eventually you’ll get to a point where you don’t even want the diet soda anymore or anything sweet. Are you drinking a decent amount of water as well everyday?
Dr Berg is exactly right folks, listen to him. I started following him july 1st. Within about 2 days cravings and hunger was gone. Haven't touched sugar since, fat melted off and energy levels came back. I went from low 240s to mid 180s and have held that weight consistently.
I need to make the change. It is just hard for me, because I am not a natural cook, and I drive a lot for work. So my biggest weakness is drive-thrus. And I crave it all the time. And the majority of that food is not nutritional, mostly carbs, and cooked in omega-6 oils! But I will try again. Thank you for the inspiration!
@@jonathanbehmer5495 you could buy frozen vegetables mix that you can heat at medium in a pan using coconut oil, easy. Then add your proteins, shrimps/steak/fish in the pan. That's what I do.
@@kanwalarora363 As much fresh vegetables and fruit as possible. Also grains, beans, etc. It's always best to prepare your food yourself and not buy processed food, that was you can control if you put sugar in it or not! And a little note at the end, of course there is sugar in e.g. fruit as well, but the sugar that is detrimental for your health is not the natural but the industrial one. Hope that helps :)
@Pia R. Curious, where did you find this info? I'd love to try this but am not a big cook so would love a way to easily see which foods I can eat vs. which I can't
Not my experience. I've switched to carnivore, eating eggs & red meat. Aggressive sugar cravings 8/9 days in. My carb intake is well below 30g per day. Protein hits around 175-200. Fats between 125-175. It's not easy.
Can you share what foods you are eating? I'd love to try this but am not a big cook so would love a way to easily see which foods I can eat vs. which I can't
Cold Turkey. Just do it. Ditch all biscuits, cakes, breads, pastries, pasta and grains. Drink plenty of mineral water with lemon and a twist of sea salt. You will feel like crap for several days - but then it's OVER 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 You will be free from those cravings and all the "false" hunger that's fooled you for years.
I've been off of sugar and low carb for almost 2 years now. Recently I ate a piece of carrot cake at a party. It was soo sweet. I immediately got a headache, felt tired and had most of the symptoms that you said. Next day I had a craving for a big salad and kombucha
@@ghostinthearena yes alot of sugar is used in the making of kambucha tea. However, during the fermentation process the sugar gets eaten up by the microbes. The more vineragery it taste hardly any sugar is left. Also, because of the open air fermentation the alcohol content goes up to maybe 1% at most.
My son would get lethargic almost immediately after consuming a high carb/ sugar meal! It was awful to see! He did keto for about 3 months and is still doing it! It’s amazing the difference in his body and mental state! Also, he lost 40 lbs!
My name is Debbie and I’m a sugar addict. BUT I control it through 18/6 and keto for 4 months now and years of self education about our processed foods. Bless you all.
There is no easy way out of this, getting off sugar is going to be hard. It took me around six weeks to stop having physical cravings and maybe six months to get past what I'd call the mental cravings aspect. It was really hard, with multiple setbacks. Important things are always hard, they are supposed to be hard. Being hard is not a reason to avoid them, that is the reason to do it! We are built to do hard things. Quitting sugar is the single most life-altering thing I've ever done.
I would like to share my experience, too. I was able to give up sugar by eating fruits whenever I crave sugar. Although fruits are still sugar, it’s not as addictive as chocolates, etc. I did this for weeks until I didn’t crave sugar anymore. It’s still going to be difficult though like every other addiction. But this worked for me. I hope this works for you, too.
Chocolate with 90-95% cocoa or rather less than 5% sugar should be ok in small amounts (i think?). I don't get why people buy "chocolate" with 50-60% sugar but don't call it "sugar with cocoa flavor", which would be the honest description.
@@crazylector I know! It’s crazy how companies are fooling us. Especially in my country, the chocolates here are so much sweeter than other countries. It’s literally a sugar bar.
Oh, I am glad it worked for you. I did end up eating 2kg of suggary fruits per day, and got all sort of very sever healt issues . Got completly addictid to fruit too. With Keto and If which saved my life. I jumped into Keto right away, and was very easy after 2-3 days. I am glad I did not put time in it…
Dr berg my son has started keto with me and his age is 13. He follows you and we watch your videos together. You are such a blessing for us. He is over weight and now want to gain muscles and get rid of belly fat. Its his second week. Hopefully he will get results gradually.
I have been off sugar and carbs for 4 weeks now and now I have more energy, my vision is clear, lost 10 lbs so far, and less or almost no tingling in my toes and fingers. Thank you Dr Berg.
Eight years ago, I started having an allergy. I started sneezing a lot and had runny nose almost every day. I never thought that my allergy was caused by my diet since I am/was already doing a low carb diet. Even though I was doing low carb diet, I never gave up drinking soda. I continued drinking regular coke then changed it to diet coke or any sodas that has no calories in it. Finally I settled down on Zevia soda thinking it was one of the healthier alternative soda drink. I was happy and just learned to live with my allergy. I took Allertec medicine whenever I had enough of sneezing and clearing my runny nose. Two months ago, on my 57th birthday I just decided no more carbonated soda, so I got rid of drinking Zevia. I wasn't expecting any improvement in my health but was surprised that it stopped my sneezing and no more runny nose.
Apparently it creates bad gut microbiome (wee organisms in your gut that don’t jive with the rest of the trillions that live in there) I don’t have an intolerance to stevia or sucralose but there’s something in those kinds sugar free drinks that gives me a slight skin irritation
For me, my genitals have been itchy for about 1.5 years now. No it’s not an std lol, no it’s not jock itch or chafing, I’m pretty sure it’s the sugar doing this especially after his video stating itchy genitals is a sign of diabetes. I don’t drink soda, but I do eat sweets such as cookies, cereal, milk, fruits, etc. I’m wondering if I cut it could turkey, if my genitals will stop itching.
Oops: One soda can rate 42g of sugar - that's all carb, on top of whatever is being eaten. I gave up fast food years ago because... these places rarely offer anything but soda.
Thank you Dr Berg for all those informations. I had those sugar cravings before. It was like a "little red light" turning on in my head at night (between 10 and 11 pm .. sometimes later) while i was on my computer. Before i discovered your channel, and did not know how it was working (insulin spike, sugar craving, low energy etc), that "little red light" made me go to the kitchen looking for something to eat ... in fact, i was looking for sugar. After eating some sugar (cookies, chocolate, or anything else with sugar), it was ok, "little red light" was turned off, and i could go back to my computer. It was really complicated for me to resist those sugars cravings, i used to eat big breakfasts too, and a lot of white bread with all meals (3x a day) since many years. After seeing some of your videos (sorry for my english, i'm french), and anderstanding how it was working, i decided to start intermitent fasting (16 - 8 - no breakfast no snaking), stopped sugars (stopped fast sugars and lowered slow sugars), stopped completely bread, went for 1 hour walk every day (around 6km), stopped using the lift at my job (i'm working at the 4th floor) and went earlier to bed (10h30 pm) for two weeks to see if i would have positive results. Those first two weeks, were very hard with sugar cravings, but i won ! no sugar at all and no bread, and finally that 'little red light' disappeared. Sometimes it was back, but it was easier to resist. Few days after i started, i noticed that, that "little red light" was very strong (intense ?), but was not very long (in time), maybe 10 or 15 minutes, then turned off by itself. When it was very hard to resist, i went to the kitchen, and took a big glass of water to fill in my stomach, and that turned off the "little red light" almost instantly. The first week, i lost 2kg. The second week, i lost 1.5kg, began to feel better and decided to go on. I've started at the end of march 2021 and lost about 1kg a week, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. Then i had 2 or 3 weeks where i lost almost no weight, but it started again last week, and now i've lost 30kg, but i keep going on. Today, i'm eating very small quantity (amount ?) of bread (not every day), and sometimes i eat 2 or 3 squares of chocolate, but when i do, i do it right after diner to avoid breaking the fasting. Finally, with no big food restrictions, it works well for me. Today, if i eat something with sugar, like pastry, i can not finish it, there is too much sugar for me. The other good thing, my satiety is back, i eat less every day, have no cravings between my 2 meals, and no insulin spike that make me almost fall asleep in the afternoon. To make it simple, that changed my life, and now i feel good. I have some more weight to lose, but i know it works, and i will reach my goals. Some people asked me if i'm not afraid to gain that weight back (not sure if that sentence is correct ...), then i tell them : when someone has a lot of weight to loose (except when there are medical or health problem), it's not because he / she eated a bit too much at Christmas and new years eve, it's because he / she has bad life habits since long time, and a simple diet will not help, because you have to change those habits, it's a new way of life and eat, not just a diet to lose 3kg and start again after with bad habits. To explain sugar craving and intermitent fasting effect to people hwo ask me, i use the lift vs stairs example. Imagine your brain entering in a building to go to the 4th floor (i know, it's a bit weird, but easy to anderstand), and he has choice between lift and stairs. He will push the button to call the lift, like he will start / make ? you craving (not sure about that sentence) because it's easier for him to ask you for sugar instead of transforming your body fat into needed sugar, like it's easier tu use the lift. If you are listening him, and give him the sugar he wants, it's like sending him the lift. If you don't send him the lift (don't give him sugar he wants), as he needs to go to the 4th floor, he will have no choice, and will take the stairs (will start transform body fat into sugar), and that's the way to go. After some times, he won't be asking for the lift, and will directly use the stairs by himself. Hope that was not to long, and will maybe help. Thank you again Dr Berg, your videos are precious, i could not imagine having such result so easily :)
"At the end of the day your body will replenish depleted glycogen stores through a process called Gluconeogenesis, where it takes fats and/or proteins and coverts them to glucose for storage in the liver, kidneys, and muscles" good, this is also why we don't lose that fat right away. Nice point about fat. Many do not know that fat does convert to glucose, just indirectly.
@@joycehandersonfriends3225 Happy to see that can help you. The important thing to know, is that, that little Red light does not last until you eat sugar, It only last 10 to 15 minutes. If you can resist eating sugar while those 10 to 15 minutes, that little Red light will turn off by It self.
Cant even think how many times ive tried to quit sugar. Well after listening to Dr Bergs video here we go again. Holiday over, Easters over, xmas long gone so lets try again. No excuses this time.
My tastebuds have changed & I crave salt & I need more pepper on my food than I ever have. I know that I was badly addicted to sweet tea, but I don't drink it like I used to. I enjoy lemon water, now. It's refreshing, to me. Real sweet tea, like I used to drink tastes unpleasantly sweet. My weakness is sucking hard candy to replace cigs.
Hello Annette P. Had a journey with Cigarettes, too. They effect the quantity and quality of air use and absorption in your lungs. I think studies show, they restrict your O2 intake by 10% at least. In our world of stress and air pollution our first response to stress is to restrict the flow of breath into our lungs. It's a fight and flight, fear response. What smoking helps with is the deep inhalation, as does crying, i found out. I use the healing art of Jin Shin Jyutsu to help the flow of breath inhalation, circulation and exhalation in my body. For the lungs I put my left hand under the left rib cage and my right hand under the left clavicle. For the other side right hand under right rib cage and left hand under right clavicle. For short hold your Ringfinger, or put your thumb on the Ringfinger nail of the same hand. It helps me greatly, even in crowded trains. 😊
Salt craving probably due to being in ketosis. Dr. Berg has other videos about the need for additional salt (sodium) and potassium when on keto or very reduced carbs.
You lose minerals in your urine like potassium, sodium and magnesium on keto so replacing them is hugely important. I neglected that the first time I did keto and I felt tired and weak, especially when exerting myself. Now I add lo-salt to my water because it contains sodium and potassium and just eat a lotta foods that contain them. I use magnesium supplements too but tbh I’d you just spend a bit of time researching magnesium rich foods, it’ll help you choose the right things to eat.
Not a doctor or anything but heard about people supplementing niacin to help with cigarette cravings (if they were nicotine cigarettes). Maybe something to look into
Getting off carbs and sugar is the most profoundly positive health move I have ever made. I was thinking that I would go in to a state of being tire and lethargic all the time without it and it turned out to be just the opposite. I have energy throughout the day. It turns out that your liver is very capable of delivering glucose to the blood stream when you need it and in the proper amount. I had about 2 weeks of my digestive system being out of wack, but that normalized and actually became more regular. Do it!!
This is my first step towards a healthy life. Dr. Berg you are a life saver....I will be watching all your videos. I HAVE to loose 100 plus lbs...I need prayers 🙏❤️
You can do it. Start intermittent fasting and cut down all take out, processed and do not bring any junk food into the house. These simple changes will help a lot
I thought sugar and caffeine were addictive. Dr Berg's videos are way more addictive 😀. I started watching him a few days ago. I was already fasting intermittently for 20 hours a day (earing between noon and 4pm), but wasn't losing much of my weight and had cravings during fasting. Thank you for your explanation on various topics, doc - it really helped me make some amendments in my eating habits and it's going pretty well for the last four days. Had a very short migraine on Thursday (Day 2), but was nothing like the long excruciating pains I've experienced before. Thanks again and keep up the good work. 😊👍
Quitting sugar has changed my life and lowering carb intake has further helped a lot. And finally fasting has been great saviour .. All thanks to you Dr. Berg. It's amazing to be on a low carb and sugar free diet 🙂🙂 Unlimited Gratitude. And it's not just weight loss but over all feeling healthy ... 👌👌
The thing with the first point is that it worked for me. I just suddenly stopped eating sugar one day and never came back to it. It was literally a matter of a couple of days, and I had no cravings after around a week.
I have been a soda drinker for 20 years and am finally ready to give up the mountain dew. Getting MCT oil on my way home and kicking the old habit forever. Wish me luck!
RICK- it's going to be worth it. You will develop superpowers. Your INSTINCS will start working- u will notice more things about the real world and discover who your real friends are. Your body's energy, frequency and vibration in and around your body will change, chemical elements- you will attract Positive energetic people. ITS ALL GOOD.
I have always loved sugar. I used to eat 8 snickers ice creams in one go while waiting for bus. Sometimes more. I went from 55kg to 73 kgs for the last 10 years. LAst March I DECIDED I will take me getting healthy seriously. I have been trying to loose weight, always failing in the end. But in the last year I did loose just over 10 kgs in spite of failing soooo many times, and I have not gained it back. 4 months ago I started going to the gym. One month ago I quit sugar. I am almost the same shape as when I was twenty something. I am 43. It is work. It is sacrifice. We all need a really strong reason to do it. Find that reason. You might fail a million times, but as long as you keep getting back to your making efforts, finally you will win. Edison failed like 10000 times before he succeeded with the light bulb. Failure is not bad. One step closer to the final success. Yesterday a new work colleague asked if I am also studying in uni as well as working? It made my day.
