So I'm planning on going after musky and went with this setup. However, I tested this bending method on 120lbs and it always broke before the weight was off the ground at the back bend that he tells you to make at 1:39. I think this is because when the weight is on the line it's actually trying to straighten it out causing it to over stress the wire and breaks way before reaching its max tensile load. I corrected this by eliminating the back bend and rather than wrapping the wire away from the eye I started my wrap a little low and wrapped towards the eye. I didn't have a scale but I was able to lift the 120 lbs off the floor and it only broke when I jerked/bounced the weight a couple times. It is far stronger this way and only uses maybe .25" more wire so it's not much larger. It's not as easy to make it look pretty and is more technical to do.
Just made up a batch using this method. They look professional except for the loops cause I don’t have bending pliers. I still got close enough though. I had a home made haywire tie that I don’t need Now because of this video. Many thanks.
