Especially with these older fps games that never had proper controller support, gyro in particular basically lifts these classics from *borderline unplayable* to *super enjoyable to play* on controller. The Steam Deck trackpads are also perfect for assigning the many hotkeys that games like Deus Ex rely on for a smooth gameplay experience.

The game assumes you are using mouse and keyboard. When trying use a computer terminal in-game you can bring up steam keyboard by holding the 'steam' button on you deck and pressing the 'x' button.

Not sure why, but you apply the layout for the main game, then save that layout as a template. Load the modded version of the game, then select your template

e_ yeah I did try that but for some reason it wasn't applying to the new modded version. What ended up working for me was changing the name of the modded version on steam to "6910" Which is the game's steam ID. No idea if that's an intentional feature or not but hey, it works.

Its been a while since I set this up, but it should be the following: What you need to do is install Steam Tinker Launch. Its allows you to boot an alternative executable for any given game. The easiest way to install STL is by using ProtonUP-QT (also really handy to install community builds of Proton) You can easily install it from the discovery store in desktop mode. I left a link in the description to a video that shows how to use STL. Once you have installed STL you download Kenties launcher to your Steam Deck Go to the Deux Ex game properties in Steam and select STL among the list of Proton versions. Start Deus Ex and Tap/Click ‘Main Menu’ before the game launches. You’re now in STL. go to ‘Editor’ here you can select and launch a different exe than the game exe. select Kenies Launcher installer that you downloaded and then click ‘Save and Launch’ You will now see Kenies launcher install wizard. Just follow the steps like you would on a Windows machine. *I don’t remember if Kanties Launcher replaces the the original game exe or if it generates an executable of its own the game’s steam folder. if it’s the latter you can just select Kenties Launcher exe in the game folder by using STL again. if its the former you can just select the latest version of proton in the game’s steam properties.

Inverted Y axis was the original standard for the first 3D games to use an analogue stick (on N64). So it tends to be what older gamers are used. Same goes for anyone who played a lot of flight sims (and of course, actual pilots).
