I was talking to a stranger about how I find peace in the garden. Starting early really helps get out of the winter blues. It's amazing how being around even the tinyist plants brings hope. Then I got rabbits for fertilizer and became truly happy. God is so good.

Murdock, can you do a video on starting the long season vines like watermelon? Seems to get a harvest in the north it would be good to start early.

Living in HUMID & 🔥 FL...my Black Simpson didnt do very well. Maybe bc i dont have that great potting soil u do... I do add lots of home made compost, but they grow small & bolt😢. Ive heard lettuce likes ITS OWN ROOM to grow , so, YES I BLV they can grow in a deep cup👍💚🤠. But not on window sill bc most ppl have UV windows...i will keep trying & do ur method...like the carrot video🤠

That lettuce is amazing! I am getting some peat pellets delivered from Amazon tomorrow. I've had pretty good success using those with most things but Spinach grew some small leaves and then went south and died. Do you think lettuce will be easier, or are the leaves still too delicate for that type of substrate and is it not loose enough? I took your advice about skinning some strawberries today and have them drying on a paper towel! I really hope it works because I was going to buy some bare root strawberry plants but now I'm running out of cash. I've noticed that just a small package of soil now is getting very expensive. For the seedlings in my garden outside I collected some natural compost from under my fallen leaves to supplement the little commercially sold soil and amendments I bought earlier. So far they seem to be doing well (Tomato, pepper, and basil). Luckily I do have a grow light for starts and some containers. I'm going to try to grow carrots too, as I do have some seeds I bought in bulk for microgreens about a year ago. Have you got a video about growing carrots? I have been thinking of growing them in a styrofoam box like you have your lettuce seeds in. I have several boxes that are at least 12 inches tall lying around.

Iam going to try this method great video,just wondering what temperature do you keep your grow room at and when could you move plants outside to a non heated green house
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472 5 месяцев назад
Lettuce is pretty cold tolerant. As long as it's not hard freezing outside, the unheated greenhouse would do nicely as soon as the freezing is over.....it can even take a slight frost if it has too. The grow room is kept at 74-76 degrees fahrenheit with a humidity about 55-65%

Please explain how you can plant each day to get a head of lettuce each day when you started all the seeds in the container at the same time?
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472
Certain plants and lettuce as one of them if you keep them grouped up nice it will stall their growth....they usually really take off when you give them the ability and space to do so........ Certain plants we can extend that time before we put them in the garden to achieve rotational crops....I do this with carrots 🥕 as well. With one seating every 30 days you get enough plants that you can easily space them out by 30 days the following month you just start a new packet and keep it going. You gave me a great idea for a garden video....I will show exactly how it's done. Thank you for the question. Happy gardening and God Bless 😇🙏❤️
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472
I have even seen some growers put Chambers in areas where the temperature can be lowered to 65° cutting the plant grows to half extending finish time by a few months...... Good trick 💪😎

Another question. I see ur using a grow light... what if im sowing OUTSIDE? Would i cover it w foil or plastic? I just planted some seeds ystrdy... heading out to RE DO W UR METHOD🐸🤠💚
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472
I don't know if I would use foil unless you are in a very cold climate and need the extra heat for germination. An old sheet left on there for a little while will do just as well

What happens when you get a little mold on soil when seed starting the lettuce? I put holes in bottom and kept them covered and 2 days later I had some fuzzy white. it's been 5 days now and things are sprouting but white mold is still on top of my soil should I pitch it a and start over?
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472
That is where a little sprinkle of cinnamon will take care of any mold issues or dampening off you might have. It is a miracle use in the garden and grow room.

@melodylyons4631
@melodylyons4631 Год назад
Got to shock these just the same.
@barbarabfree2
@barbarabfree2 Год назад
I don't understand why they have to be shocked. Do you mean hardening off? You can do that by equalizing the temp in the grow room to the outside temp. Crack a window midday for an hour before you put them outside. Then only leave them out for a couple hours the first day. Then four, then six, etc. At the end of the week they will be ready. No shock. If transplant shock is a worry then make a half strength solution of fish emulsion and give them a light watering. I do it the day before instead of after transplant. I think it strengthens the plant in advance. The water after way works too but I sometimes take to long to transplant or roots get too much light. Or worse. Broken roots.
@murdocksmadnesspatriotgard5472
You are 100% correct Miss barbara. There is no need to put them through undue stress and shock. With this little bit of simple work we can alleviate that just like you stated in your reply. Good job Patriot Gardner ❤️🙏😇
