I bought one strawberry plant a couple years ago. I’ve been propagating plants from runners, and now have over 30 plants, even after killing off a bunch and giving some away. Now I’m trying the seed starting method for additional starts. It’s fun to try new things!

The June bearing make prolific numbers of runners according to what I am reading on the subject while alpine and wild make fewer and are much better for container growing. I just planted a 55 gallon barrel with 3 varieties of strawberry that I hope will survive and multiply. I am wondering if you have to leave the baby strings on the mother or if they will root in water or soil like sweet potatoes do? Have you tried other methods of propagating the babies than leaving them attached to the mother?

I love it! I'm going to try the seed hack too! I've got some ready, but right now I'm desperately potting things up that need big pots, etc. You know.....lol. Can't wait to try it tho! Very soon! 😁

I have a tray with baby strawberry plants from seeds. I used the plastic package from some supermarket cookies as a terrarium. They’re growing amazingly well in there. I started transplanting the bigger ones this week. Baby strawberry plants are freaking adorable! 😊

They say the same about apple trees. That they do not grow true to the mother plant but have vast genetics in their seeds. Also they will get really big without grafted roots. I have fond memories of climbing large apple trees as a child. Getting large may be a very good thing in the right spot, but many today may not expect it. ☺

I was surprised to find out (in a previous video) that the strawberry capital was in Arkansas. I was raised in a rural county in Montana. Every country road you went down, in that country, seemed to have several "you pick" strawberry farms. The place that my parents bought was previously one of them, and for several years we would have people come to the door and get upset because that place (our home) no longer sold strawberries. I've started my own seeds, just a day or two ago. Only I didn't wait for them to dry. I cut out a small chunk that may have had 3 to 5 seeds on it, and covered it with about 1/4" of soil. I'm hoping that this doesn't hurt anything. I did it from a store bought strawberry, so I have no idea what the variety was. I was just concerned about the zone that it's grown in, since I live in Texas and I don't know if the hot summers we have down here would kill them or not. Anyway, I've really enjoyed the series. Great information. This should work better than buying bare root plants. I have bought some bare roots where almost all have survived, and others where none of them lived, regardless of how careful I was with the crown depth. This should be better than the bare roots because we know the plants that we're transplanting will be healthy. With bare roots, it's a crap shoot.

If I can do it over here in Arizona.....you can do it in Texas too. Using a 25-50% shade cover during may June and July ...... sometimes August will give your plants the fighting chance to really take off. The strawberry 🍓 you see in my video is now 50+ plants strong and have berries all over them....really big ones too. Good well draining soil with lots of compost material will help the root temps as well . I wish you the best of luck and I hope you have berries for pies soon ❤️ God bless my friend.

Funny story i bought a strawberry plant with pink flower's and it said on the sticker propogation prohibited lol it literally had 20 runners dangling over the side like i wasnt going to propagate. Long story short i have about 25 pink flowered strawberry plants now 😂
@carlschnackel3051
@carlschnackel3051 2 месяца назад
I'm not sure how they could enforce that "do not propagate" rule, since the plant doesn't care what their rules are. I think their meaning is that you're not allowed to propagate 'for profit'. The plant was probably still under patent to some agricultural university.

This is awesome. I have not tried this yet because they say the fruit is very small when you grow strawberries from seed. Supposedly the fruit we eat from fruit stands and the store are hybrids, developed over long periods, but will not grow true to seed. They say many will be like the wild strawberry, which is extremely small fruit. Can you tell me what kind of fruit you are getting on these plants? Is it large like the ones you grew them from or small like wild strawberries? Thanks for sharing.

Great message brother, I just subbed, I accidentally destroyed my strawberries last season. I messed up and covered the crown when transplanting. Bro I don't even know where they came from they just showed up one day in my onion troughs and I let em grow. After 2.5 years I let em get too much water and they got root rot. Anyway I am stratifying more seeds for another run. I live in central FL so its gonna be a challenge this late into season so wish me luck LOL. Godspeed brother

I know someone who grew a few strawberry plants in their yard and didn't really keep up on them and soon enough the entire yard was full of strawberry plants. It was way out of control. Thats why ive hesitated even growing strawberries because i don't want my entire yard full. So ill probably just cut the runners off and let a few run but not out of control.

It really depends. If you're going for just one harvest or intend to replant them the following year you can squeeze four or five in there....just stick to a good feeding regiment. They will fill the box up for sure 👍
