Yup this is the exact issue I have with my h9 in wooded areas or shadows, out in the streets with full sun I have zero issues though

I’ve been thinking about it and it’s complex and hard to explain briefly - but imagine each pixel that captures light is a square (or slightly Rec) which means that horizon levelling has a problem - as a square rotates it will require antialiasing to estimate all the inbetween data. This is why a special lens is required to get more light to enter the sensor but keep the image the same size. Unfortunately this means the image reaching the sensors contains more data per pixel - which means ultimately data is loss / image quality loss. GoPro has some good algorithms that they’ve been using to keep their sensor size down so in daylight it’s not as evident. And to imagine it better, imagine turning your TV or monitor in a circle an picture all the data / image that would be lost by keeping the picture in the centre. Good news - problem is mostly solved with higher res / more sensitive sensor so GoPro 10 and beyond can solve this.

A handlebar mount is something I would never do for the following reasons: - you can’t see any of the bike or body aside from the front wheel so it doesn’t allow you to imagine the feeling of the ride - handlebars aren’t a neutral place, when you lean, turn and go over bumps and jumps they are constantly doing rapid movements. This would make for an unpleasant viewing experience. - a helmet mount is much more stable than a chest mount even with amazing modern digital stabilization, even with insta360 flowstate stabilization which is the best out there imo. And on the bars would be significantly shakier than anywhere on the body.

I haven’t but they wanted to pay me to promote their one r and I really disliked the camera, you can get great footage but the software isn’t very intuitive, so I didn’t do any content for them or accept payment. Of course Matt will say great things because they are paying him but he could genuinely love it. I however prefer the GoPro stuff way way more (I’ll get them to sponsor me one day haha!!).

I leave it on auto settings for the most part I feel GoPro is pretty good at that, sometimes I’ll dial up The ISO in low light. Color grading is something I’ve spent many hours learning so I don’t wanna give that away just yet 😉

the GoPro Karma grip

GoPro Max 100%- shoot in flat color and native white balance and learn to color grade in a program like adobe premiere pro or davinci resolve. If you do that you get will get way better color than any filter will give you. You can also mount your Max vertically in hero mode, I find this gives better results sometimes if we are solely focused on IG Reels.

@@MarkMatthewsMTB I have the Max Lens Mod and a vertical mount for the 9, but sometimes I wish I could get the motion blur that I see in other videos. I probably just have to mess around with the settings more. I already shoot in 24fps with negative EV.

In the GoPro footage you notice the wind noise? I use external mics with dead cats for Vlog shots but not for riding

@@MarkMatthewsMTB ya in the riding portion, like when you’re ripping and talking, or just flying off something. I don’t believe it degrades your videos at all I was more curious than anything. Audio from gopros are always weird to me and trying to get them dialed can prove to be difficult.

Yes, a gimbal will make that big of a difference. It depends what your goals are and if you care about sharing perfectly smooth footage. The max is also much more stable than the hero's and I've been using that over the gimbal even lately.
