I was very fortunate to be in this crowd, having only read about the Beta Band before then. They blew me away. I then walked around the corner to watch David Bowie. It seems unbelievable now....
Same. Remember them coming on, apologising for how shite the album was as the label had rushed the release then said they were going to play it as it was supposed to sound.
I was there, to be honest I had turned up mega early to get a decent spot for Basement Jaxx who played immediately after, I'd never heard of these guys. Beta Band were incredible though and I adore them to this day. Can't believe 22 years has passed.
I was there. first time Glastonbury, first time Beta Band. I was blown away. Especially when it went all hawkwind jam. Amazing. One of my best glastonbury moments or Beta Band moments. Oh and when he said, are you feeling it yet!!!! Fuck me, through the fucking sky! Then caught the last half of Bowie. Quite possibly the best gig night ever.
It's funny how fickle we are with our opinions. First thought: oh he looks like a geek. I like them more than I did before I saw them. Second thought: Gross, he's wearing a camo shirt. Third thought: Wait, he's dressed up completely like a soldier, complete with gear. That's kind of cool. I like them again.
beta's often played a homemade vid before coming on... at the barra's they had this great scottish ninja thing but at glasters im sure they had some skateboarding policeman vid, wish i could find it... oh well, great post.
There are some of those on the 2 dvd set, The Best of The Beta Band. It's a long time since I watched it and I've not got it to hand, so I can't recall if that one's on it, but it's well worth buying
Yeah, it's on the DVD along with all sorts of other wee films they made. Steve and John went to the same school as me, a few years older. I remember hearing that they were from my area blew my mind and suddenly made me realise it wasn't, as I suspected, boring and shite.
