Haven't seen Riding Giants, but 1999's Irish film This Is The Sea introduced me to this song. I love it, although it painfully describes the emotional struggle my life has turned out to be.
What I like to think is that we take ourselves to be the river’s (life’s ups and downs)and we bounce off everything on our way seemingly back to the sea. But the only reason you are the river is because the sea gave itself to the clouds which became the river.You see? You never were the river. You just thought you were. I was raised on the sea the beginning school was out for summer. Just piss and moaned cuz I would generally just griped. That is till my younger sister that all her teachers and classmates wanted to know what all we saw and did out sea. We Salmon And Albacore from Coos bay in Oregon to southern Calif. Sometimes we would for up to two weeks. Now I really miss it all. T'waz the most exciting of life. This particular song and video really strikes me. The whole song is a metaphor for the fact that insight is synonymous with the realization of personal insignificance. It's scary at first, but ultimately liberating.
