With respect, what you say about the offset/drop is just the other way round. The v1 can be run more aggressive as it allows for more forefoot striking. Notice that sprinting shoes have a zero or even a negative drop. Nike knew that they'd probably make the shoe slightly slower, less poppier and heavier but what they gained with their decision was that the shoe became more accessible for people who are used to wearing fashion sneakers and only run casually. The v1 was marketed as "the fastest shoe for elite athletes" the v2 is marketed as "the fastest shoe for almost everyone". While the v1 was an option for people with strong feet e.g. barefootrunners or elite athletes. The v2 is the sneaker version of it.
I agree - that's probably what I meant to say too. V1 is the shoe that rewards you for being a seasoned/strong runner, whereas V2 is a bit "friendlier" to the everyday runner. Minus the blister spot.
For me Alphafly v1 is a perfect long racing shoe and Nike shouldnt be changed It so drastically. The v2 got heavier (I can feel It strongly when I use both models) and I had blisters in my arch. Iam disappointed and trying to get one more V1 on sale. Amazing comparison!!!!
actually a higher drop reduces the strain on your calves. especially since the foam of the alphafly 2 is firmer, so the heel compresses less. You probybly mean that a higher drop helps you transition to your forefoot.
I could be wrong, but I believe that a higher drop actually promotes heel striking since there is more padding under the heel. Hence to why the population are majority heel strikers then becomes forefoot strikers when going barefoot due to no cushioning under the heel. Love the content
The offset difference between V1 and V2 is just like that between Asics Metaspd Sky and Metaspd Edge. They obviously exist for different reasons. One goes for longer, less frequent stride, which appears more frequently on elite runners, another one goes for more frequent stride, which appears to more of the amateur runners and daily trainings. V1 seems to be more manipulable in terms of the stride style, whereas the V2 is pushing its tech to the max. When I was riding in V1, its 4mm offset got that spare space for me to micro-adjust my stride angle on different types of terrain and on my tiredness level. I personally would prefer V1. And I reckon the particular offset of V1 is the heritage of that prototype worn by Eliud Kipchoge to break the record. Note that the model is insane with 4 Air Zoom pods and 3 carbon plates. That could be the reason of why the stack height at the front is particularly high in V1 models after the prototype.
Lots of chatter about the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro being the real successor the AF V1 instead of the less punchy V2. Looks like Nike got a bit too comfortable sitting on their fat stacks.
tested the mizuno recently. the rocker is odd. it is first steep, but then quite flat at the front. For that reason the toe off feels slow. I did not like it.
@@TOXIN543 anecdotal reports I've seen tell me forefoot & forward-biased strikers should AVOID this shoe. Like you said, the midfoot hump is steep (they did this to skirt the World Athletics stack height limits). So this shoe is really designed for heel strikers. If you strike w/ the forward half of your foot, you don't get any benefit from the giant hump in the rear/mid section or experience any of the roll-thru. With the Alphafly, the pods do give forward strikers that "pop".
Just purchased the V2 now and tried to fit in and I noticed that the V1 is a lot bouncy than the V2. Haven't tried running with it yet so no further comment. I still dont know if the arch will help as it feels like my feet are tight unllike the V1 where my feet are comfortable.
Hi bud can't get alfaflys ones and have Manchester soon what shoe should I buy I've got adidas Pro 3 and vaporfly 2 and not quite liking them for the long well definitely the vaporfly any suggestions please
The Alphafly V2 is to the V1 like that girlfriend that once was perfect when she was 18, slim yet curvy and hot. Then became chubby and lazy once she got into her late 20's.
