It's also very specific. When you read something like that, you realize you're reading about what a real man wrote to a real woman. All the other songs have descriptions that are vague and applicable to any woman of reasonable looks. But this line is clearly about a very special lady.

I think for the neck, the whole bucklers like shields of warriors, it would make the most sense as jewelry, as I’m sure there are tons of examples of wealthy women in that area and that time would have lots of jewelry. Not a sure fire guess, but I think it makes a good amount of sense.

What you do not understand is, that Bible Has multiple leyers. Ther is literary leyer you are advocating for, and it is absolutely beautiful on when it comes to the use of poeatry and story telling. But there are more leyers to it. Christians should acknowledge every single one of them.

I'm curious if it has to do with the early church's connections to Greek philosophy. Gnosticism has always been a thorn in the side of Christianity, which teaches that the body is impure and dirty and the soul/spirit is holy and pure. The bible never teaches that sex within the confines of marriage is impure or immoral, but is something to be enjoyed. God's first commandment to Adam and Eve is to be fruitful and multiply.

Not a long time ago I was reading this book about Hebrew alphabet and the author has quoted the same love poem that has been talked about in this video (which I really enjoyed, as always!:D) I will never forget this scholar said there that she has been confused for a really long time about the breast metaphor: but one of her students came to her and said "maybe the writer used it to represent the movement of a woman's breast while walking and/or running since there were no bras at the time, they were for real free to move and jump like fawns!". This interpretation stuck in my mind so fast and It is perfectly explanatory to me! About the David's tower neck metaphor (this is just my idea), I think the author is just saying that her loved one has no fear of her femininity and that she is strong and proud of who she is, because It is easy to picture the opposite: an old lady has usually a curved neck and back and she is fragile and her figure is used as an image of lost beauty. Let me know what you think about these interpretations!:)

I grew up on science fiction & a little bit of fantasy, so when I would get bored during a sermon in church I would read Revelation, starting AFTER the part where he just talks about all the churches. Had to get right to the action! If I thoughtfully nodded on occasion, then my grandmother would get compliments on my behavior, too! Bonus! I think it was Piers Anthony who wrote a series based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, or at least starting there but it is been a long time since I've read those. Never in church though. By that time there was too much note-passing going on amongst the youth group so I never got bored again.

I believe that the line discussing that “love is greater than death” can be a reference/prophecy of the death of Christ and His resurrection. Christ followers, such as myself, believe that Christ’s death conquered death, or an eternity of suffering in hell, and allowed us to have eternal life with God in heaven. With that being said, many of the songs in The Song of Songs (aka Song of Solomon) are actually worship songs; celebrating God’s glory and love and describing what a relationship with Him should be/feel like. For me, it is very hard to understand the use of love in a sexual connotation, but I also remember that love had many different meanings then and even different cultural understandings of the word too. Those are just my thoughts though!

The tower of David and shields hanging from it are probably references to a long neck with necklaces on it; possibly the beads looked like shields.

Esther wasn't a religious book either. There is no mention of God at all. We were always told that Song of Songs was "God's love poems to his people." But Solomon had so many wifes and concubines that I'm leaning more towards he just wrote them for the ladies in his life.

But that wouldn't explain why (most likely Josiah or the Masoretes) put it in the Bible.

its cool seeing how much similarity these ancient poems and arabic poems have in common, arabic poems also have these "weird" comparisons in them that were used in very very old poems and are still used in modern ones

This is what I want to know. Does the Hebrew language (and maybe other semitic languages) also have بلاغة Balaghah (rhetoric/Figurative Language)?
@elpepe-wx7oj
@elpepe-wx7oj Год назад
@@solehsolehsoleh i would assume so since these languages have similar "foundations" if you will, but i have no idea itd be intresting to find out!
