One of the biggest mistakes golfers make when copying the pros is the start of the golf swing. You see it's the wrong golf technique for most players and we mean the one piece takeaway. What Nobody Tells You About Chipping Onto The Green • What Nobody Tells You ...
If you're looking for a simpler, easier golf swing that won't require a lot of practice, then you should try the one piece takeaway. Not only is this the easier technique, but it's also the most effective. So if you're looking to improve your golf game, make sure to avoid the one piece takeaway and try out the simpler, easier golf swing!

There isn't a golfer alive who hasn't heard about the one piece takeaway. You just see it everywhere on the golf channel, RU-vid magazines etc telling you to do a one piece takeaway.
But what people don't tell you is the downside to it and trying to do a one piece takeaway when your body doesn't facilitate it, when you don't understand how the rest of things work is really gonna screw up your golf swing.

Here's what we cover in this golf video.
If I was asking you to throw something, you wouldn't think about throwing in a one piece takeaway. You would just feel the weight. Don't worry so much about specific placements from inch to inch to inch. It's just about starting it in motion and getting us in a place that we can launch ourselves from to be able to get the ground, to be able to get the width. And you don't have to be a super athlete. You don't have to try and practice for hours and hours to get this perfect sort of takeaway.
Alex Fortey from the Art of Simple Golf gives you simple tips to improve your golf swing. Enjoy this golf video to help you get closer to having YOUR perfect golf swing.

I agree totally,why on earth do we want to swing like someone else anyway? your swing is your swing and you should work at improving that rather than trying to swing like Rory etc..... even they don't swing perfectly all the time.....if you concentrate on your own swing the game is easier because you're not trying to change anything... I'm 68 and play to scratch and I put that down to not trying to smash the ball half a mile or look to have a beautiful swing, I play within myself and know my limitations and enjoy the game 🎊🌟🤩🥳

10:49 I watch a lot of your videos. I’m in the latter half of my seventies and the advice you give to just swing the club about three quarters in warmups is what I use to warm up and waiting to hit. I also try thing of moving the hips first (in my practice swings only!). This simply works, my complaint now is I hit shorter irons further than I expect…I’ll live with it. 😊

I started doing this. Basically the L to L drill. One arm a time then both. It's the first time I actually started feeling the weight of the club and when you use the one arm drill it forces you to use your body in the correct manner to swing the club. My swing speed has increased dramatically, the path. I've learned to trust it and let it go. My swing has become completely effortless. Although I shoot in the mid 80s I believe I now feel how the golf swing should be. It's completely effortless and has saved my back. That simple drill you show might be the best drill in golf. My only thought when I'm over the ball now is a silent count in my head of 1..2 for my tempo. It makes golf fun. Thanks for the videos.

You have just described my golf swing since 1990 after a road accident. Lack of movement creating a collapse. The vast majority of my practice is on timing. I simply have to to accommdate the collapse. I've never been able to find the 'STOP' position that would keep my back swing shorter and more reliable. I'm playing off 4.3 and I'm 58 next month so not doing too badly. How do you find the STOP position and the shorter swing? I'm so glad your channel came up in my feed. Best teaching channel I've ever seen by a country mile.

Thanks for sharing your life's story. It's comments like yours that I come to the comments section to read. Personally, I've always had a compact swing. I've never been flexible and when I started playing hockey at 16 and really getting into it around 18 or 19, I think that had a big influence into helping shape my Golf Swing. This video spoke volumes to me in a few different ways. When I do a "full turn" it's rare that my shot works out. So, I have learned my "limit" and try to stick to it and things go ok. As a whole, I absolutely love this ASG channel, Danny Maude, and Mike Malaska. All three of then seem to be primarily focused on simplification and ease in the swing. I hope you find the official answer to you "stop" question and when you do, please share because I would love to hear what you discover.

At last someone tells me the truth - I am not and will never manage to copy Viktor Hovland or Rory McIlroy - what a release. Since I started with golf 4 years ago I have been teached to strectch and tilt far too much - resulting in swaying, backpain, shanks, hooks and slices. Your simle explanation confirms what I have been close to see the few times when I play well. But the problem is that I have not beeing able to repeat it. I tend to fall back into streching and overswinging as everybody is teaching me. I have tested your tips and it works - what a releif. Starts with the hands. This is what golf professionals don’t tell you. Start with the hand, wrist, arms, shoulders your body will follow with the weight of the club leading. On the down swing , same exact sequence. Very easy and uncomplicated. If you try to shift your weight first you will throw the entire system off and struggle your entire golfing life.
@TheArtofSimpleGolf

Less formality and rigid of triangle is the point. Sequence is similar and making it more natural. First for it to become natural we have to break the golf swing cycle

Excellent advice and may I suggest the second biggest mistake golfer make copying the pros? It is keeping that front foot planted. Let that foot come up. Nicklaus did, Bobby Jones did; all the greats of the day did. Does a baseball player keep his front foot planted when making a throw? Does a javelin thrower? Do you when you throw a ball? No! It is natural to let that foot come up if it wants to. Keeping it planted increases tension and can even injure you.

Thanks for all the great video! I had some of my best range and golf rounds last few weeks. More power and distance. Back is still a problem working on conditioning old injuries, 54 yr old golfer. Toe touches are the worst. Mobility is excellent ortherwise. I have a question. Why would 90 degree feet, no foot flare help my swing. I have flared my feet in hope of freeing up my hips with minimal results. Feet 90 degrees to the target line appears to have transformed my swing. Actually less strain with no flare. Would love to hear why this may work for my body type, movement tendencies. I experimented and really strike the ball way better with squared feet. Thoughts?
@TheArtofSimpleGolf
@TheArtofSimpleGolf Год назад
Hi Ed! Without seeing your swing (you mentioned a while back coming into town I believe too) but it is personal movements and how you are wired etc. just the flaring helps “most”. If you’ve not seen it yet, look at my video a few weeks back on Langer. He stands narrower and square toed. It’s about how you pelvis moves. We don’t want to intentionally turn hips much.. they are just allowed too. If you are seeing better results because of a better pivot and sequence and it’s not affecting your back… go for it!! To me the hardest thing to do is whip the club through the bottom of the swing. Whip, shallow, or what ever term you want to use. The main objective is to create head speed. It start in the wrist at the top of the swing and to be relaxed. I find it interesting how little this is talked a out and how much focus is on hips, legs, rotation, arm position. I swear all the coaches think that part of the swing is so natural. I wish I would have learned the whip or head speed and then work on the other parts. It feels so foreign to swing the club to obtain club head speed beings I have swung it so much trying to do the other mechanics.

yes. excellent vid. bill mehlhorn says in his vid that "there is no such thing as a one piece takeaway"; and, he is right. your right arm drill is the perfect demonstration on how to swing the right arm freely. and, strange as it may sound, if a player focuses on allowing their manubrium to move away from their thorax- when doing the right arm drill- it helps the arm to swing back freely. i do think that the problem that the game has is that it has never got to grips with how the waggle shapes the takewaway. we waggle the club back by pressing the heel pad of the left hand to the left; and, return the club to the ball by pressing the wrist joint towards the grip. the heel pad resists against the wrist joint, as it returns the club to the ball. the digiti minimi and flexor retinaculum work as antagonistic opposites, in the waggle. and, that shapes the backswing. "as ye waggle so shall ye swing".

Moving away from the ball isn't a bad thing. Particularly for less athletic people. And there are millions out there!! Just don't move towards the ball on the backswing.
