I love how the English VAs were intentionally sarcastic as hell when they did the cup noodles quest and were shocked when those were the takes that made it into the game.

I've got to say, I don't know anything about Final Fantasy or care about it all that much, but I trusted you as a creator and watching this all the way and was thoroughly entertained. You summed up the ridiculously spread apart story in a surprisingly concise (for 2 hours) way that was too the point but still interesting and emotional. Good stuff! I'm super happy I gave it a chance. Also Trickster Explained by A Jerk when? :)

I undersant the story of TLOU 2 , but I think it could have been conveyed better

I always go into your videos (especially the longer ones) with the idea that “Hey i really like this guy but ill just watch this video until i get bored” but here I am, having watched a 2 hr video about a series i have never played, dont care about, and all because the funny cartoon man makes jokes every now and then. 10/10, would do again

Hey Rowby, I have been watching you for a while now (your videos are amazing and you are sooo underrated) and I loved the ffxv joke you made in that one video (possibly jerks guide to wraith about episode gladius ignis and prompto) because ffxv is my favourite game. I was so excited when I saw you made a 2 HOUR LONG VIDEO on ffxv and by the title I already knew you felt the same way I do about it (kinda dumb, but it hits the feels). I just watched it and I have to say, I could not agree more with all of your thoughts on it plus the video is as entertaining as a chocobo. It's okay. I cried too.

Just so you know Rowby, I'm surprised that you haven't been able to do many collabs with other creators (except for you making Bakamatsu screech like a crow). Even though I've never played a final fantasy game, damn this vid was good. Its nice to have both objective analysis/a bit of a history lesson about a game, while also combining one individual's own personal feelings about it. I'm glad you took the time to make what you wanted, because I really think you did the game justice, and it was entertaining, funny, informative, emotional and all around a good watch. Great work man.

Hello Rowby I wanted to ask you if you could do a blight guide to us so we understand him better

I literally dont care for final fantasy or Jrpgs but I finished the video and I'm glad that despite its flaw you really like the game. We all have those one or two games that needed more polish or gameplay reworks but we love them regardless.

Bought this game cause of ghe flying car on the back of the box, during play I thought there was going to be more then 1 map and we were gonna go on a grand adventure. No you stay in 1 area. Getting to the end of the game I read something that says you get the flying car after beating the game. I spent the whole game not doing what I bought it for. Playing it years later and doing some actual googling reveled the car part was at the top of the map and wasn't a quest given by cidny which means I could of done it way sooner

Final Fantasy XV made me appreciate Final Fantasy XIII so much more and that says alot.

1:41:48 personally I enjoy multimedia projects, I find them to be interesting because of the different ways a story can be told. Telling a story with a TV show will be different than putting it on paper, or in a game or song. Different mediums can show sides that would usually be glossed over somewhere else. Other than that love the video :)

I think freedom can work, but it needs some kind of mechanical hook in the way it interacts with the level up system giving a sense of progression. Shin Megami Tensei V i think does freedom of what you use in a way that perfectly combines the dopeamine dump of a level up through demon fusion, and giving you a level of customization by building their kits in fusion. Along with how you can develop the niche of your MC and develop your team to supplement him. It both increased replayability and makes your character feel like a role you're playing. it's cool

i gotta say, i liked ff15 a lot when it came out. i was in highschool and still had a spark of joy and life in me, so i wasn't too pressed about its flaws. i went back to play it this year and i was like....severely unimpressed. still have a crush on noctis and prompto tho

I'm sorry I was so late to this. I don't know how I missed this on my que. I'll be honest, I quit playing this game shortly after hearing this constant clicking as the character walks. I think it was his keychain. I'm osd enough that I tried to find a fix for this. There wasn't.

I heard that there was a theory. Where the game was ment to have bahamut as the true final boss. And noctis would fight him with along side Ardyn . As a sort of fight against fate. I especially since bahamut was the one who caused alll these events to happen over and over again

Great video essay. I found your referring to Sho twewy a bit excessive, but I understand how he can be annoying to some. I understand I’m a biased as I’m a huge fan of that series. If you are willing to try neo again he’s only on the party for the first week and rarely engages with other Npc’s

If this game had the combat mechanics of FF7R (the only aspect of that game I’m willing to compliment) but kept the warping I think it could have been remembered as one of the greats. It could have essentially been something similar to what the battles in Episode Duscae felt like. Everything felt more “intentional” instead of the spammy mess we ultimately received. I could tolerate the overly large world map, the mess of a story and all of it’s cut content being sold back to me if the combat mechanics were enough to prop the game up. I feel like it’s so close to being the most satisfying combat system in the series, it just barely misses the mark. If this game were ever remade (I don’t think a remaster would be able to do enough) with some of the features that were left on the cutting room floor over it’s extended development cycle I think it could really be something special. It wouldn’t take much. I had been following this game since Versus XIII was first announced and I can see glimpses of what they were trying to do in the finished product and that’s why it hurts so much that it failed. I doubt it will ever happen, but I would love it if Square revisited this game and fixed it’s many problems. It had so much promise. If it didn’t, we wouldn’t still be talking about It half a decade later. It deserves better and so do we.

I think I really enjoyed the game because I'm not a Final Fantasy fan. So I wasn't expecting massive lore dumps like everyone else, or disappointed by admittedly braindead combat. I didn't play any of the side content and I must admit, I see some of the flaws and issues people point out, but overall, I think the game set out to make me feel a particular way and succeeded at every turn. I loved the characters, the bonding moments between friends, the big action set pieces, etc. I felt sad, then incredibly happy for prompto, I was sad about the death of lunafreya (I'm a sucker for romance and you don't have to do much to get me invested) I got mad at gladio when he decided I wasn't allowed to mope about my dead fiance while riding a train where I couldn't do anything anyway, I took some edgy satisfaction in the way Noctis' dialog changed after that, replacing his fun banter between friends with such lines as "die." when he pulled off big attacks, I realized the strength of Ignis' dedication I had taken for granted when he fought while blinded. I loved that the game made you suffer for it to really feel the pain of his tragic story, I loved when the game became linear because it felt dire and urgent and I didn't want to do sidequests once shit started to go down, I fucking cried at the ending and at that beautiful Florence and the Machine rendition of a classic song. I came away thinking that the game was far from a perfect game, but succeeded completely at what it was trying to do. It made me really feel something and has stuck with me as a result, so I wouldn't change it.

I bought this game day 1 and was in the hype train. I was more than just upset when I completed it due to how incomplete the game was when compared to the mess that it is today. I have not played it since.

I’d like to point this out, I played the entire game thinking you could only play noct, so for the entire game I only played noct, never touched any of the other party members and never knew promto could use other weapons so he only used a handgun the entire time, I thought the game was super hard cause I didn’t use the skill tree cause I didn’t know it was a thing, I pretty much challenge ran the game and I didn’t find out any of this till I watched this video
