Honest, no bull vlog! No pumping up BS sponsors. Travelling for your soul not to grab attention and following on social media. Well done guys. Keeping it real!
Brilliant. I did the lap of Australia back in 1986 in an old Ford falcon and a tent best 12 months of my life. No Instagram or mobiles back then .keep up the good work. Cheers
A very powerful video for many of us 'potential' grey nomads. We are debating the big lap....yes no yes no...Thanks for the big thumbs up re the yes camp!
Excellent videos guys - thanks very much. I'm about to do the lap solo (land cruiser & bushtracker) and while I am reasonably experienced in the bush etc your videos have given me great insight into planning my trip - especially what's worth visiting, road access, logistics, budget etc. Thanks for supporting Australian outback businesses and helping fellow travellers in the bush.
No worries Ian, Cheers for the great feedback. Not many people go inland which is a shame, its so beautiful out there. You will be well setup in that rig mate.
An up and coming nomad here...... loved the basic no bs but honest information and the love you have for our country. I'm now subscribed and I'm looking forward to your next one. Thank you so much !
Bahahaha it's time to hit the road! I love the point you make about the 100k going straight back into Aus. That's such a great thing. Awesome video legends. Keep them coming
Great info guys, could not agree more about keeping money in Australia. I think sometimes backpackers see more of our great country than we do! Love the videos. 👍
“Yes Live!” 👍🏻 and old school cars are awesome! Haha 😎 Here’s a tip for the flies...Nature’s Botanical Creme made with rosemary oil and cedar wood oil. You buy it at the produce and it’s for horses to keep flies off their faces. Safe for humans and dogs too and works a treat ✌🏻
Great honesty there guys and food for thought for people thinking of doing something similar. You guys have done something that probably 90 percent of people haven’t or can’t do due to various of reasons so to put it up on here for us to see is a true gift. I’m nearly 50 and I’d be just happy to do the Gib and and a look at Queensland forever I kick the bucket. Fantastic again guys and I’ve only seen just a few of your adventures so cant wait to see from the start.
Hey guys love your clips, well done! Some amazing footage and places visited. I agree 100% with your spend. On average our family of 4 not going without, average a little over 1k a week. Food, fuel, accommodation, tours etc. Keep on enjoying this wonderful country.
Great post realistic budget. We saved up a large amount not intending to work on our travels and doing the tours and 50/50 caravan park and free camps. We have just started with 3month stint in Tassie. Our budget working out around $1000 per week (covering bills too) that’s doing the tours boats trains etc. and eating out once-twice a week. But realistically the diesel cost will be more travelling NT and WA. This is a helpful clip with realistic costs to help people plan and decided which way they want to go. Thanks guys. (what product is Kurt using in his hair 😄)
Haha cheers Craig, no hair product at this stage... All natural 🤣. Initially we though our budget would be $1000 as well so it seems to be the norm. Tassie will be looking beautiful at the moment with all that snow. Let us know if you have a travelling blog we can follow. Cheers 🤙🤙
Sparky's on the loose. At least you have hair bruh 😄👍🏻Yeh we were in the snow last week at Cradle and were in chilled out -7 ❄️ at Little Pine Lagoon, such a beautiful state. I don’t have a blog but I chuck a few photos of our travels on insta @craigw3ir. Love what you do, it comes across real and not trying to portray social media mumbo jumbo 👊🏻 cheers guys 🍻
Thanks Cra1g, we try to keep it real.. we see the fake and really dislike it. -7!!! Omg, I don't think Rusty could handle that haha. Just checked out your pictures and they are awesome! Looks like you spent a lot of time on them.
It’s costs us between $700 to $1000/week depend on how slow we go, plus $6000 for a new transmission for the xtrail, don’t tow with an xy. We are not fulltimers, but spend about 3 to 4 months away we have done the lap twice now on the black stuff and now the red stuff off to the Cape soon
Sparky's on the loose what do you mean “black?” And we are turning off just south of Musgrave roadhouse and going across the Mitchell River to Karumba shot cut...crossing max trax (plastic bridge) that’s how the fella at Karumba TO described it, not many use it. Checkout the RU-vids of it.
@@gebi4pejo1 "black stuff" bitumen, like you said in your comment. Oh yeah we were tempted to do that route but after the Cape we needed a rest from dodgy roads haha. Kurumba is nice, better if you got a boat though.
Sparky's on the loose dah! Yeh those dirt roads get a bit too yah, I was told it’s good not Like the Gibb or Bungles that’s the worse road ever. Thanks anyway guys
Don't forget to factor in your mortgage and bills which also have to paid while you're travelling. The wife and I started with about 700 per week for us and we had a few thousand for bills in another account. We were closer to 1000 /w and had a few quiet days to get back on track.
Just finished the video on your budget absolute awesome along with a few others I have viewed & good on you guys for taking the plunge, my question is have you guys made any money through your You Tube videos with the amount of subscribers and views you guys get? and if so would it be possible to make and share a video on explaining this to viewers as this may help others at the cross roads with the ole should we or shouldn't we decisions.
Cheers Brendan, we were going to mention social media but it has had little impact in the 2 years of traveling. Only recently with our Patreons and RU-vid revenue has it actually started to helping us. So it's not worth it in the short run but in the long run maybe? All depends on your audience.
Hi Sparkys! Yanks here. We love your rig and would like to see a review. How do you like it? Is it self contained? We are thinking about hiring a 4x4 campervan for a trip on the West Coast. Would you hire one or buy one if you were going for 30 days? Also, good advise on the sattellite phone!
G'day guys, Just hire a 4x4 and make sure the insurances covers you for dirt roads. We have done an inside and outside review, so head over to the review playlists.
Amy did you just scare the crap out of Kurt before recording this vid or did he just have an electrical shock? Time for haircut dude Great vid, you guy's are great. Being from a small town originally myself i love how you promoted putting money back into these communities RESPECT!! 2 and a half years for a $100K proves your point that if you brought that house this trip never happens
Awesome vid guys, I'll have to keep tracking back through your vids, however if I can't find the answer - what's been your favourite state to visit and the best town! Cheers guys!
Thanks for watching Tom. That's a very tough question as every state as there own special something. This is the same as towns, we just don't have any favourite as they are all good haha.
great AS USUAL...You are dead set right.. seen not enough of Australia. working overseas at present and setting up for our trip/s. A good time to get to know one another. Life is way short so get into it now but not to let age ( you know " Old people as Amy said) stop you. Sure some of us cant take big walks up near vertical hills but yah know so what...at least you can go part way.\ Money is not all its cracked up to be anyway. Found that out the easy way. Good luck on the adventures together.
Hey guys.... just a question you might be able to answer in one of your episodes...... how do you go with national parks and travelling with a dog? We are starting our travels in August with our pup...... sorry if you have already addressed this question and I missed it
One of our most asked question Kate. Our next podcast is all about traveling with a dog. In short we leave rusty in the caravan for short trips and get a friend/family to look after her for overnights. It's all about your dog's personality in the end.
No it's not too late, there has been a noticeable amount of people that age going through when we were apprentice's. The industry is pretty broken at the moment with all the mines shut down in WA/Darwin. You never know unless you give it a go.
Thanks guys, great philosophy, great attitude. If you had a house and just sat at home, what would it cost to live for two years? Your real cost is the incremental cost over doing nothing at home. The chance of getting work to earn a quid is probably not that much different being at home vs on the road for tradies I reckon is about the same (Is that a fair point?) - if you want work, you will get work. Now weigh the living on the road with living at home - no comparison. Here is the big question then, apart from when you have kids, why stop?
It does make it a lot easier when you have a trade, except at the moment the industry is stuffed so we were surprised we got on FIFO. Very true, we have probably spent just as much if we stayed at home. Pretty sure having kids wouldn't stop you either as there are hospitals everywhere.. will we ever stop? It would be good to get a bigger caravan to make it more comfortable with an office space etc. At the moment it's very cramped.
Hey, Whats up. Your Channel looks so good. I wish I could go to where you are because Ive only been to Gold Coast Brisbane Melbourne Canberra and Sydney
When we filmed this, youtube payments didn't make an impact on the budget. To this date they still don't as the camera gear and processing gear costs a lot of money.
