Historically, many McLaren models got slaughtered when it comes to the depreciation. Yet, more recently, the used car market turned and this also affected McLarens. On top of this, we can also see a sentiment change for McLarens. You can find now many videos online in which people state that they are amazing value for money as long as you take out the appropriate warranty and can cover the maintenance. In this video we will find out if this sentiment shift is reflected in the prices of these supercars. We will take a detailed look at the 12C and 650S market. The 570S and 702S are covered in different videos.
An analysis of the McLaren 12C and 650S market revealed that the price changes fit within in the market trend; both cars saw a price increase. Also, they saw both a decrease in supply and a decrease in the price sensitivity to mileage. There are, however, also some differences, the price increase in the 650S market was a lot larger than the one in the 12C market. Moreover, the increase was so severe that the market sits at the top end of the market trend.
The increase in McLaren values and especially in the 650s market might indicate a sentiment shift. People know what they get themselves into when they buy a McLaren. Hence, they will incorporate it in their expected ownership experience.
