The family potrait bit is that if he'd marry Falin, the heir of his family would probably look like that (the art style changed). 18:27 Laios was actively trying to hide the dark magic part. That's why he lied, he's just not really good at it. (In the manga Kabru even commented as such) Now if you closely look at the poster for this cour again, I think you can find Falin :)

This is where THE REAL REAL SHIT starts

Ghosts have been visible previously, but Falin (and now Laios) has been able to see them in much more detail. But, since people don't really discuss their experiences to that degree (minding Laios wrote it off as mana sickness and almost didn't mention it), there's no telling how many can see ghosts in-detail to begin with, but it's certainly tied to mana use (since Laios _didn't_ see them that well to begin with). Also, the mini dragons are what Marcille went sicko-mode swinging on to defend the party. While she neutralized all those present at the time, there was _plenty_ of meat and blood left to make use of. Fermentation, same/similar process produces wine and is used for pickling (key difference being one uses an acidic brine while the other does not, but that's getting in the weeds). While Laios does know dark magic was used, he doesn't know the details of why the mad mage was near her, let alone why Falin was suddenly absurdly strong. Shuro _knows_ Laios isn't a mage (until recently, and there's no chance he managed to mention that he's been practicing), the tension was more that _Falin_ was involved, so she would be hauled off same as Marcille (if not slain outright). The elves are effectively the Magic Police, and that adds further to why people have beef with them. Even if Marcille wasn't named as the mage involved, they would become involved if black magic was noted to have been used.

This anime took its time to cook the story to perfection. Can't wait for your reactions to future events.

4:15 this is a common misconception with anime watchers for some reason?? it's one of the blood wyverns the mad mage summoned, red dragons don't have wings in dungeon meshi.
