Great video, Dave. I have the AC67U and I've been very happy with it. One minor annoyance is the time machine function is unreliable for me, how have you been finding it and how do you have it set up?

Hello,i'm using R7800X4S MU-MIMO and Wave 2,the GUI and option not optimal with Asus.I changhed with my home VDSL Asus RT-87U the best my Netgear R7800X4S?Asus have optional Bridge LAN and access my ISP,just? Sorry my english i'm italian.

Awesome unit. I'm on virgin 200meg broadband but my reality speeds using my standard router a few rooms away ranges from 10-150. Only my wired tests I peak around 212 meg. But I used wired connection just 1% of my day to day use. I can't be the only person with this drop issue. Only thing good about my line is that it's stable. Great video Dave.

i bout my asus ac68u a year or two ago. It replaced my Apple Time Capsule. Its a great router although i never got time machine to work properly. It wouldn't do auto back ups.

Is AC86U a better router compared to AC88U in terms of signal strength and wifi speed? I notice the ram/flash (i forgot which one) is higher on the AC86U. Am trying to decide on either one of them cos not worth getting a Wifi6 router now. Other than my huawei p40 pro, nothing is on wifi6. I think buying a high end router which is 3/4 years old is sill good for today's tech

Dave great video as usual. What was your speed before this upgrade. That is a awesome download speed but not so great upload speed. We don't get Virgin where I live so I am using BT Infinity 2 and my speeds are around 78 download and 18 upload

Hi. I've got talk talk fibre broadband. But their router is kinda crap. Was looking at getting this, does it replace the router I have or connect to it like your virgin one? If it connects to it do I have to put it a modem mode or something?

Anyone know if this works with BT? Currently have BT start Hub 2??? Is it as easy as replacing the current router with this one?

Have you tried it with a VPN? I'm looking to replace my Asus RT-AC68U. It's been excellent but it cant quite handle VPNs. I have Virgin Vivid 200 broadband and for the most part I get the advertised speeds but when I'm connected to my VPN via the routers built in firmware I can only get about 22Mbps download. Do you think the router upgrade would help much?

That looks like it fell off Batmans tumbler lol. Very stealthy looking. Huge range of ports on it, you could run a small office off it. Similar upload to me but your download and ping are insanely faster than mine.

Why modem only mode? Surely this can be used as a direct replacement for the isp provided one?

I can't get virgin just now but i would find it irritating that you pay for 200meg but at peak time you don't get near. At least on BT Infinity you always get the synced speed.

How stable is this router? I've been seeing a lot of reviews on various routers where people are saying a connection dies, the router dies, frequently reboots.

Do you have any issues with the 5Ghz missing after while??

NEW GEN router, ROOTER!

Hi, I am currently on a 100Mbit fibre optic internet connection and I have a business router installed with more than 50 devices connected and everything runs really smoothly. However, next week I am moving to a new house and unfortunately there is no fibre optic line in the area yet :( I ordered an ADSL connection of 20Mbit (technician came to install telephone line and he did a testing and told me that I won't get more than 11Mbit). In my place I will be using about 15 devices that use wireless network (from laptops and tablets to printers and kitchen devices). I know for a fact that my ISP's router will be really crappy and won't manage to handle all these devices together so I was thinking of purchasing the ASUS RT-AC88U. I am not really doing online gaming (probably a few times a month as I am busy) but I am currently doing really heavy HD streaming in both laptops all day. Do you think even with such a slow connection this router worths the money? I guess it's still a good investment for the future as when fibre optic arrives it will be more useful but my question is: will I see any difference with my current slow internet speed? Thanks a lot and keep up the great work!

We got it thinking it would replace our Orbi's seemingly poor wifi connections with our newly updated Spectrum 1gb/s speed internet. Instead, it's almost as bad! I've played with all the various settings, seen on the internet, and nothing, if anything worse! I can't get a wireless speed for more than 200 mb/s. If I plug the same laptop into router, I get 800-900 mb/s. Not sure what to do as I'm pulling the remainder of my hair out!

Had one of these in my house until it started effecting my smart lighting devices. Removed it and now the internet and smart bulbs seem to work fine. Waste of £179

This router has so much wifi 5ghz issue its almost non usable without some tweaks and tests in the bandwidth/channel settings.

Why are you hiding your LAN IP addresses? LAN IP Addresses are private ip addresses (not routeable over the internet). Even if someone had your WAN IP Address, the worst thing they could do is to see where you live (very innacurate, within a margin of what, 5~20 KM?)

£300 for a router... it better cook me dinner and triple my connection speed.

I genuinely do not recommend this product, especially if you buy this product because of that "free" WTFast. It's a scam. Only 4 different games offered, and they dont get updated. To make things worst, all those 4 games offered such as LoL, WoW, CSGo, and I forgot the other one.. have their own direct access GPN that automatically connect whenever you play the game. Essentially, there's absolutely no point of having WTFast on the router at all. It just connects you to the built in GPN that doesn't need WTFast to activate. it's a scam.

This has got to be the worst piece of s.... equipment that I have ever owned. Firmware update I have lost 5 Ghz network completely. No amount of resets fixed that. Rolled back the router to old firmware, all wifi capabilities gone. Tried 4 other firmwares over 20 times re flashing using Asus recovery utility, no ping, no DHCP nothing. Only power light on. Managed to get only interface back up and running.

Come on, that's still customer grade crap, get a pfsense router, a managed switch(preferably cisco or HP), and some Aironet or UniFi APs, then we're talking serious networking.

i cannot for love of money open the ports ive opened them but they still dont work so ive had to go back to my 20 pound router as i can open ports fine on that wish i could send this back virtual/port forwarding i need to open ports 7777 32330 27715 27716
