Saw a lot of shows in the 70's and 80's. Jerry was the soul of the band but Bob brought the energy every night. We are blessed that he is still bringing it. Peace.
I miss Jerry but I will admit that ever since the dead continued without him, and especially now, I love the little Change-Ups and little ways they make the music interesting as the years go along...
That finale- gives me something no other dead song has given me.. I just keep playing the last 3 min on repeat.. it was the best moment of the whole tour. Words can’t describe the soul
It's just prue improv man. Yk Dark Star wasn't on the set & they sure as hell never played it like this. It's always so beautiful when the boys do some crazy improv, but this was really something completely different. I had a friend who was there & he lost his shit 😂😂 what a jam!
That was nuts!! We were down front standing against rails as my wife of 20 years whose very first ever show. Haha She's dealt with me and my obsession the whole time we've been together. She loved the music and the everything. Thank you Grateful Dead at my official final show at DeerCreek!!! Off to a crap ton of Widespread Panic shows. Life is good if you love music.
Amazing how bob communicates with the rest of the band to lead into this improvisation, it looks like him and micky are giving the rest of the band the show of their lifetime right here. Legendary
There are too many things to point out about this performance, from so many different angles. I could never describe them all, but I will start with this... The chaotic camera angle/pan as the banned is ramping up and Bobby's howling "NIGHTFALL!!" gets me every time! That and the fact that I feel like I'm peaking every time I hear this.
this show was by far the best of the twelve Dead Co shows we saw on Summer '23 tour. and wow this was something I've never heard in 30 years of following the Dead it was an amazing, mind bending show. in the spinner pit where we were dancing sh** was bananas. & can I just mention once again how amazing Jeff Chimenti can be when he goes off?
Can we take one moment to appreciate Mickey Hart STILL using all four limbs to drum? This man is the unstoppable force that the immovable object is gonna have to reckon with
I just love this! I am so grateful that Bobby gave our beloved GD a new breath with Dead and Co.🎉 This little jamb sums it all up! Till we meet again my friends! ❤
man this brought me to tears......... "night fallllll". "night falllll" Absolutely screaming natural iomprov on this one. Bobby pushing the band to expand on it. just lovely
@@nelsonw2096 100% I found that out pretty quickly with those live streams last year. I found there is a giant section of that between Jerry and Kieth on Truckin from Europe 72 as well. A beautiful musical arrangement/conversation
One of the things I loved about this show was that the security was loose and we danced freely in the aisles like in the Jerry Days. It felt so good and so right!
So grateful I got to share Wrigley field show's and this amazing Deer Creek with my Mom this summer. This tour was fantastic. Out of all the shows I attended this summer this was the best one by far!!!! That Sugaree Solo blew my whistle hard!
I was there at the very front of the lawn by column F - they stole every face in the venue when Bobby started in on Dark Star v2! Still looking for mine a week later
Brother..I was by column F one step on the lawn and for a little height had the cement curb to stand on when Id take a few seconds to watch and not dance. faces stolen for sure. Bob for sure locked in our location for that as he did for the JStraw>TLEO in '91. He's done that a bit for me. He's looking right there with soulful and prankster vigor
Nope - it means your heart is open. Keep it that way at all costs !! Lotsa great stuff out there - I misted up at the Fleet Foxes show I just saw - just beautiful
This was 100% improvised, the set list did not have dark star on it, Bobby led the band and they all watched him and followed. Oteil looks dosed and froze in amazement
@@skidood7244 instrumentally only and only once, in Boston. This was the only time they sang the lyrics and Jeff said it was not planned according to Dave Gans.
I’ve been playing both of these songs for ages… but that version of dark star, that was unexpected! No one can replace Jerry, but mad respect for John…
Was at this show with my wife and a couple friends. I told them before the show that the fun of it was having no idea what would happen. It was really a special moment when Dark Star wove in the way it does. Was beautiful weather, the house was packed, and the sound was great. An all-around good time!
❤Love you so fuckin much Bobby❤ Fucking CRUSHED IT!!! I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU BOB WEIR. IM GLAD YOU DIDNT GIVE UP A LITTLE WHILE BACK AND AFTER WATCHING THIS, DUDE FUCK YEAHHHHHH ❤ I LOVE YOU BOBBY ❤ LOVE TO THE WHOLE WORLD
8:21 is my favorite part of this whole thing. John hits that Jerry Dark Star lick into the chorus so perfectly and looks over at Jeff right after knowing he just did something sick in a clearly unplanned moment. Bob and the boys refuse to stick to the norm no matter how many go arounds they've given this thing.
John is having the time of his life “playing on that playground” as he once said… and it’s written all over his face all the time while on stage with them.
drove out to Indiana from Pittsburgh for this show. didn't buy my ticket til I was in my hotel room. Pittsburgh was the best show overall of my tour, but Deer Creek and Cincinnati first sets were the best 4 set ever and I want the PRESSING
Holy fucking smokes. Seen various acts weir has played in over the past 15 years and this is some of the best singing I've heard him do. Hats off Mr. Weir, hats off!
man, drove from MN > IN at around 5:30 AM when my flight got cancelled. I arrived to IN around 4:30 and headed directly to shakedown and my friends. best show of my life.
Really wish I coulda caught them this last tour :( 5 shows are my total since 2015 my first show with these guys in D.C. what a treat it’s been learning and loving this music and community, man are they killing it this tour too ❤ love you all great times 🎉 more to come !
I haven't seen any D+C live in person, but have been very impressed their playing. Especially, later in 2022, when I thought they were playing at their best. What I've seen and heard from this "Last" tour lately, is beyond anything before 2023..?! It's like the bands been "unchained", and allowed to really put their all into it, after mastering when "not to play" (Originally, Bob told John he'd need to "Know not to overplay, but to overplay"..?! It could have been an old Jerry saying, but I'll never forget John speaking on this). Jay has really been "Driving that Train", and they've been sounding phenomenal! I hope these weren't the "Musical Differences" behind Billy leaving the band before the tour (he's healthy! 👍). Some really great, special music being created this Tour! Last time I saw the Grateful Dead, in Vermont, 95, it was quite the opposite. Jerry was barely playing, and struggling with the teleprompter lyrics..?! We knew he was doing Dope again, but this wasn't from a lack of, or too much of it..?! Jerry had anything he needed..?! Word on the lot was "DC was the best show", so others were noticing Jerry wasn't well. I wasn't surprised when he passed away, soon after the tour. Shocked to the core, though! No one ever imagined there would suddenly be a time with "No Grateful Dead". Done and over..?! That was reality though. I never imagined in my wildest dreams, that'd I'd hear new Dead, that ever even came close to the original..?! They had it all mastered, finally, it seemed in much of 2022. Now, the gates have been opened and they're pushing each other to some heights I never would have imagined! I've never seen the band members smiling this much, ever! They're realing having a blast! "Last Tour"..?! When just starting to peak..?! Hopefully plenty of "random" shows..?! They sure don't look, and definitely don't sound, ready to slow down, let alone stop having the blast we're all having..?! I'm quite positive they're going to keep playing together. Maybe a different name..?! There's definitely some Strangeness going on..?!🤔👍💯🔥🔥🔥💪⚡🎶⚡🫠
@@timturk1899Bobby is touring with Wolf Bros now (yawn)... And Bill Kreutzmann had to step down for health reasons. His cardiologist said he could only do one show every 2 weeks. He still plays with Billy & The Kids, and their tempo is on point.
