Thank you for talking about this franchise you've done a great deed maybe this will snap next on out of there greediness but then again they're ran by former EA execs so I don't see that happening anytime soon
It all started when TheScore Esports channel started to mention games (to be specific two topics related to game topics that are basically a copy of 2 of Riot Games’ IP) unheard outside of US gaming market due to the unexpected boom of games and mobile gaming markets made by asian devs that are not Japanese company and are now trying to enter US gaming market. and then Akshon started to discuss it and even Game Theory channel have a topic for this unheard kind of games just recently.
@@itsjdezbitch701 not really divided so to speak. Due to high cost or should I day “premiumness” of the typical gaming titles and consoles, other game devs esp. the unheard ones use alternative ways of distributing games to a much much wider audiences and to the some extent making that specific game genre much much more inclusive. It’s only just the western world gaming community have been in their own bubble for very too long not to deny all of these.
This story really reminds me of the fighting game Yatagarsu: Attack on Cataclysm. It was a long awaited fighting game that was meant to be the spiritual sequel to Sf3: 3S. It even had in game commentary from famous fgc you tubers and commentators from across the globe. Sadly when the game eventual launched outside of Japan it became really obvious that the devs were only interested in the Japanese arcade market and the PC/ international release was just there to fufill crowd funding promises. Just utterly abandoned everywhere, which was a shame since it was mechanically cool.
Didn't it get an updated release right when the US version came out and due to contractual issues they couldn't release the newest version in the West causing everyone in the West to abandon the game because they didn't wanna play an outdated version? Something like that? Either way, Nicalis is a very suspicious company and they've screwed up a lot of things in the past so...that needs to be looked into.
I dont know if it's unfamiliarity with nexon as a publisher or mobile monitization in general, but as an avid Gacha game player, I know to stray clear of anything under the nexon label. Nexon is known for EXACTLY the things you listed in this video (unfair treatment between servers, constant top tier shit being useless next month or season, shitty gacha/pass rewards. It's unlikely nexon will do anything about this game knowing there just sucking china's boot for the biggest buck
It's pretty much a very popular online racing game in Asia in general lol. Even here in Taiwan I even say it's more popular than Mario Kart, even to this day some still think Mario Kart copied Kart rider... It's super cap but it's understandable lol.
@@Mario123007 It's not really popular in SEA, tho. Since SEA are dominated by MOBA and FPS, currently. And with Nexon history of abandoning smaller region. You can guess the player resentment
Not sure about the current version, but in the first iteration, top speeds are different between Korea and China. You have a lower top speed in China with the same kart and license.
The moment these kinds of Korean and Chinese mobile games decide to treat players of all regions equally, is the day mobile gaming finally gets past the mindset of being nothing but cheap moba clones, bad ads, and match 3 games.
I love the drifting in this game. It looks like Someone on the development team understands how drifts work and where the pros and cons lies with them, unlike MK specifically speaking MK8 Deluxe. MK8D's drift mechanic feels semi-auto or too child safe at best, karts and bikes never over drift a corner and with that in mind the player never have to apply much counter-drifting around corner to avoid spin outs, and there's an extremely specific amount of cornering provided when drifting. and to make matters worse, you don't lose speed when you drift therefore drifting in MK8D is heavy relied on timing.
"We're going to talk about microtransactions later" and...ehh...where was it? I was really wondering how players keep up with non-cosmetic items, but in nowhere the video seems to address that Bummer :( but other than that, good work
Speed race is all about skill so the gap between f2p and p2w isn’t that bad since the only difference between free and paid karts are higher stats. The only time this will actually get in the way is at the highest competitive level where everyone is playing almost perfectly and the stat difference starts to matter. At casual to semi-competitive ranges it isn’t really an issue. If you keep up with the newest f2p karts you’ll easily be able to win agains players with the newest paid kart if you’re more skilled than them. If you do decide to spend money you only need to buy a kart every 3-4 seasons or so(~6-8 months) as the stat difference between each kart is minimal. Item mode is a different story…. Item karts have skills that greatly affect gameplay. They do things like change an item to an upgraded version that has altered effects, increase your starting boost, decrease(or completely nullify)the effectiveness of attacks from certain items or give an item if you successfully land an attack. Besides karts item mode also has pets.Pets provide defense against items by decreasing the time you’re affected by them or have a chance to block them completely. There are also a few pets with offensive capabilities that automatically attack with an item when getting hit. Due to skills item mode has great potential for p2w which the devs utilize quite well. The best(or worst) example is a paid kart released in s4 called Seth that has such incredible defensive skills that even now in s13 (16 months later) it is still the best defensive kart. With item modes being so complex it’s hard to give a proper explanation of how p2w affects it but the short of it is that payed karts and pets simply have stronger and more unique skills that provide a significant advantage over free karts. I hope my comment was able to answer your questions about payed items even if the section about item mode was a bit simple (I’m a speed main so I don’t have that much knowledge of the item meta :/)
@@Iusti06 It was very comprehensive, thank you very much for sharing! Of course, I understand that there's much more to know Interesting that stats don't affect much, at least for the race mode. But I'm glad, because it's the ideal situation
Interesting, it sounds kinda like Pokemon Unite where you can pay to level up your items faster and thus have objectively higher stats than F2P players (at least until they grind a full set of three items up to max the slow way) but the stat boosts are so small relative to the base stats of the characters that it doesn't actually make that much of a difference. I'm curious to know how this approach tends to work on average for the games using it, obviously it pushes less informed players to dump as much money as possible into the game so they can have the max stats even if they don't need them but it also pushes away potential players who hear "you can buy higher stats" and stop listening to anything after that point. It's probably a very profitable approach and this might not be a popular take but I think this might actually be a pretty healthy direction for these kinds of microtransction-driven games to go in when they don't have other good options for financing, keep the playing field mostly even while giving more devoted players something meaningful to invest in isn't a terrible balance.
As one of the official English SEA casters for KartRider Rush+, I agree with everything that has been said here. The game's so good, but Nexon needs to keep up. :/
Im korean, and really hate this branch of nationalism. They only cater to china because of the money, but would treat them the same also if it wasnt for it.
I hope KartRider Drift manages to take off. Rush+ was promising, but it died off so quickly over here. Playing that game on the West server nowadays honestly feels depressing. :/
Me grinning the first time the word "Nexon" was uttered and assume the rest of the video will be centered around Nexon's greed & incompetence and I was right...
KartRider: Drift will release next year in NA with a closed beta coming in a week from the time im commenting this. Tested the previous beta and the game has HUGE potential for a healthy competitive scene. Lets hope nexon dont screw up with Drift.
Being a Korean American, I played a shit ton of Kart Rider growing up with my friends in the late 2000s. Didn't realize how big the game continued to grow.
Probably my favorite part about this game is the control of it. It just has such a good weight and the drifting has such a good learning curve (no pun intended) that I haven't really seen in many other kart racers which is in part due to the fact that it isn't very casual friendly with things like steering control and finding the proper line going into a turn being much more important here. I also like how pretty much everything in this seems to be tailored made to bettering yourself as a racer such as the daily challenges that want you to get through certain parts of track fast enough or how new records are set for tracks in time trial every week. I just wish it wasn't a free to play game and instead was something we could just pay full price for with proper unlocks and modes to go with it.
There's a huge potential for a game like this in the West. The advantage over examples given at the end of this video is that this looks like a more arcade-y racing game than Gran Tourismo and a less luck-driven game than Mario Kart, which makes it more accessible to new players and less frustrating for experienced ones But Nexon's gonna Nexon
01:40 "Multiple companies had to block access to the game because office workers were playing on their lunch breaks and being unable to focus on their work." Huh, are workers expected to work during their lunch break?! 😲
I'm surprised you didn't mention the upcoming game KartRider: Drift for PC and Console. Also as SE Asian parents couldn't afford to buy a console for Chrismas and a $60 video games for their kids so we mostly indulged in F2P titles, so most of Nexon's F2P titles were extremely popular for us back then. Kinda sad they decided to do a 180 and dumped the SEA market.
I think the western market may misinterpret this game somehow. Although this game has an item mode, it is not the "main" mode, so it shouldn't be compared too much with Mario Kart. This game's main thing is the speed mode where you compete with other players in basic to difficult maps which is really fun. I hope people see past the mario kart expectation because this game is actually skill intensive. To the point that it wants its players to learn the necessary skills needed (Which are licenses from the lowest tier to the pro license.) before getting to try out the harder maps. That might be the only challenge because some players don't want to put in the effort to learn those skills. Regardless, everyone should give this game a try! Especially that there's a new one that just came out, Kartrider: Drift.
To everyone finding out about this game for the first time, please try it out. It's a lot of fun and you should play (with me because I am sick of playing bots all the time ;) ).
Been a Fan of this channel since I've been playing Overwatch on PC bang and due to Covid 19 I started playing KartRider Rush+ since release. Good to know this game is getting recognition outside of China and Korea 🤟🔥
I was honestly waiting for the steam release of KartRider cause I thought it looked cute and fun, but I don't know if I'd wanna play it if they are already not caring about NA with the mobile versions >.
I didn't play any Kart Rider franchise but from what I watched it have the same mechanics with the one I play called Speed Drifters. I had fun playing it I'm gonna try Kart Rider next time.
I think it will repeat history since they announced that it will be closing the Drift servers for Global (Mobile, Console and PC) just to focus on the PC version for Korea and Taiwan
It's really sad to see this game being treated so poorly in the West especially because I believe that KRR+ is much better than any other kartriding game. Im heavily invested into this game but our server barely has any players on it. Most of the rooms get filled with bots to create the illusion that it's a packed game, which it isnt. I think that one of the reasons it just wont work here is because of the reasons you mentioned but also because it looks like a gacha game with P2W elements. While the buyable karts are better they're still worthless if you dont know how to play the game. Any skilled player could beat you in a standard kart, thats how heavy skill-based this game is. It's such a great game that many would love if only they'd ignore the gacha things and if we would get some freaking support from Nexon. I really want all servers to merge but that'll never happen.
I am once again asking if we could get a video on the Guild Wars 2 pvp scene. MMO pvp scenes aside from WoW usually don't get much coverage, but we got tournaments with prizes, teams, commentators and everything. Hell, recently we even started getting support from the developers.
One small point I'd argue. I've heard that eSports have "begun penetrating the mainstream" about a million times but I have yet to see any indication of that happening.
its impposible to relese all the content of a year from the start, this will ruin many things. i dont know about how its in kartrider but most mobile games build on the level of power of units which were relesed at the same time. you will need to skip many events to catch up which would be a waste both for user expirence and the devs
This game is an absolute blast to play! But the only flaws are if you want any of the cool items, you have to pay for it which but other than that, its my most played Mobile of All Time! Would recommend!
Got 传奇车王 (highest rank you could get during the time) during the early seasons of this game in china. I was one of the best players in the game, and held a few records of a few maps in a server. While the game is fun, it is also a pay to win game. Or you have to be insanely good at the game to be able to compete with high ranking players with the same skill as you but with better cars. This game is punishing if you were to even fail a corner, anyone could pass you, that is on the higher brackets though. My stats before i quit at the end of s3 was Quickplay: 92% Ranked: 94% 287first 345top 3, total matches was around 700.
This video came up on my recommended and I’ll definitely be giving this game a try, it’s a shame about them not supporting western servers as much though
My hype meter grew fast, then dipped and then crashed. Abuse of player bases by game producers is never okay. ~_~ Thanks for letting me know that this title exists nonetheless.
just gotta say, i appreciate that you guys dont use advertisements. how about sponsorships though, so you guys can actually make money off of that? like that vpn part in this was the perfect position for norvpn right? lol
Hopefully one day we will be able to get some sponsorships going on more of our videos, but for now we keep on focusing on making the best content possible.
I was really hoping this story had a better ending than this. I remember trying this game out and saying it wasn't for me and getting a response from the devs. I find it weird that they can't communicate with their player base if they can respond to my random review.
Used to love Nexon games when I was a kid. Played Mabinogi for an age it seems like. But... eventually I wanted more then what Nexon generally offered.
pay 2 play player from NA here. Been playing since Launch but dropped off a tiny bit the past 2 months. The paywall is insane. Even as a Pay2Play, the Whale wall is absolutely rigged. They purposely put Karts and Characters behind an illusion of a “Roulette” or a chance to get it when no matter what you will get it last every single time. I’ve tested this with over 10 karts and characters and have spent several hundred dollars to prove so. I loved the game on PC when it was global but, as you said, it was taken down with no answer in the US. This was my only opportunity to come back. Also, Kartrider Drift is slated for the next big US release on consoles, however we haven’t heard any release date stuff in well over a year now. Beta was July of last year I believe. Didn’t feel ANYTHING like the main game either, despite it being tossed into unreal engine. Felt weird. I think everyone would just prefer controller support/crossplay/console ports
Doubt we'll see a release this year. They didn't say a word about the delay from 2020 to 2021. Nexon is like - "What's the point in communicating with our audience and potential customers?" The second beta wasn't that bad, to be honest. I mean sure there were a lot of bugs and flaws but for me, the main issue was the collision with other karts and penalty for even touching a wall. Imo, their only chance of succeeding with Drift is massive sponsored streams with streamers like summit who was an OG NA Beta player, churning huge cash in ads, tv spots, sponsorships, etc. Do you think they'll do any of that? My bet is that they'll pay a few streamers who have zero drifting mechanics. People will say the game is a knock-off to Mario Kart since they can only play Item mode and the game will be dead after a few months.
When never heard of Dungeon Fighter Online? It's a very unknown game within the western audience but very popular in Asia. Also, very high possibilities regards of esports like how Gunz was but this game is still alive. It will soon have a 2d fighter adaptation (DNF Dual) and 3d version (BBQ Project).
I think we need Kartrider. Looks fast and satisfying to drift. I played Mariokart 8 online multiplayer for a few months. Sonic Allstar Racing Transformed was really fun because it was so fast And I liked the physics of the plane and boat. I bought Hotwheels Unleashed because I needed an arcade racer without weapons. It has trackmaker aand people on multiplayer. But I feel it is missing some personality. There is something missing, but not shure what. But fun. Kartrider looks faster then Mariokart wich I like. And satisfying to play I guess. Hope it comes to PC and Swich. A bit wierd there are only 5 characters. But to be fair you can customize them. I just like characters without helmet sometimes. But would be cool with a remaster of Mod Nation for PS3 so I also can try it. It has trackmaker too.
I found this game few months ago and been Loving it and play constantly everyday for abut 15 mins since. I wonder why it isnt more popular than it is see not many players online, I find I play with bots more often than with real players lately.
This game still exist ? O.o I remember quiting it due to the seer pay to win shits , to the point of our group of friends agree to race using the basic car only.
many korean studied english in ph....i go lost one time to a korean net cafe finding where to play ragnarok...its pretty popular 2005....meanwhile koreans in the cafe play this kartgame
oh wat! I've played this before!.. but back then it felt like there were only few players playing it.. I enjoyed it though, didn't know it was this big in korea!..
First off. I love your videos. I binge watched them when i first found your channel, now I cant wait for the new ones. Secondly, I know this comment is later, but the petition? Really? Why do we need a law for allowing you more recreational things? No Korean country should be legislated to cater to another countries needs for a video game.
Honestly, one of the best mobile games period. If only it was a little(lot) less ptw and there was more marketing... It could have succeeded in West but Chinese and Koreans spend so much more on microtransactions compared to the west so that's likely why they neglect us so much. It's a love-hate relationship with Nexon.
it's very unfortunate the situation of WEST and SEA servers players, i myself a player from the early start of KKR+, just gave it up and quit a few months ago. Reason? Not the gameplay, i was such a competitive player...but instead: Absurdly unstable connections overtime, Overly high prices for ''Best'' content in-game, Competition unfairness such as ''trying to play against a Asia player.'' the ping difference can go between 30ms - 300ms. Honestly it's all about the out of Asia servers treatment, wich is out of boundaries terrible.
I just know it has several copies like "Speed Drifters", It was super p2w and even cosmetic are giving stats. It was fun at low rank, at higher tier, you will find not only high mechanic, but high spender. That is ruining the fun
Mmmm, Nexon. Hell, 2007 Nexon. I still remember playing DFO back then, enjoying my merry little time, and all of a sudden a GM just comes on and goes "Yeah uh, this game is getting shut down."
i have a history with this game man! i played the facebook version in the early 2013 i used with some mutual friends to invade the internet cafe of one of our buddy "the owner" Mohammed (may god bless you, Rest in Peace my friend) doing non stop tournaments and costom events everytime we get time to gather around. it was one of the most enjoyable times in my life and the most brutal at the same time 😭 and yep ... due to the sudden shutdown of the game in late 2014 or so ...our group meetup also disbanded, we tried the alternative ps3 version but it was less fun and not everyone could afford the ps+ subscription nor the ps3 itself ... then comes the tragedy when our friend had a brutal car accident that took out his life 😭 after the condolences that was the official time everybody stopped hanging out with each others, and everybody moved on with their lives. slowly dropping out from best friends to friends to acquaintances. now days i was able to maintain only two of my old buds still good'n all but the rest .... they varry from ppl who still can chill with u sometimes to some who won't even give you the "hey" nod sign unless it was a rare occasion!.
I bet they printed that petition out just so they could file it in the appropriate shredder before laughing and leaving for the the korean version of happy hour.
I can’t wait till they come out with the re release PC version.. whose ready??? I used to play back in the beta days and I must say it is a fun sorta knock off of Mario kart. But I’m a speed racer anyways that’s what makes this game unique.
Nexon America straight up abandoned the NA PC Beta back in the days. Let's also not forget how they pushed the release for Drift from 2020 to 2021. They didn't even officially state that the game is going to be delayed for 2021. People literally had to refresh their steam page to confirm this. Now 2 and 1/2 months till the end of 2021 and it's seriously looking like another delayed-release for next year. Give the fact that we're living in a crazy world right now, I can somewhat understand this. What's bothering me is how Nexon is treating its potential customers. I have low expectations about the future of this game when it eventually/hopefully releases.
@@choki2453 yeah I totally went through playing beta then getting no kart rider PC afterwards. Haven’t heard of it in years till they came out with Rush+ I just wanna re live a part of my childhood.
