Love the videos DNALI, looking at picking up a G soon again. Last one totaled. Love how your driving around the Queensway by Canadian tires and bestbuy.
I personally feel the G series is the best option for a cheap, fast and reliable car (for the most part). Not too many other options out there like this in the budget-end of the used market.
Only issue i had with my vq are sensors going out the camshaft & 02 sensors but mine really don't burn any oil i drive 150-300 miles every week & i check it once it awhile & its always good or maybe i just got a lucky engine that dont burn oil but vq are one of the best sounding v6 cars i wouldnt trade it in for anything for sound alone
VQ35DE's make 230-240whp from the factory. FBO and tune you'll push around 300whp. Run boost and you can push up to 400whp safely. Great motors when boosted, NA you're not looking at anything crazy
Only issues I have had with my vq was the timing slap and ended up jumping timing (luckily at start up) and rear main seal leaking. Luckily the valves survived the timing jump. Other then those 2 issues it's been solid. That is on my stock motor. I'm at 10k with my built block and refreshed heads. No problems besides knock harness.
had a 05 g35x sedan with the VQ i had in a Z tube sounded great over 3 grand i just traded for 2014 Q50 3.7 love my new car thing is fast but i do miss my G it just felt raw handled good too i ran KYB all around factory springs on 18inch 07 rims. Your car looks great man.
The VQ35 and VQ37 are amazing engines as long as you are religious with respect to oil changes. Don't change the oil enough in a 350 / 370Z or a G35, G37, or Q60 and it WILL bite you in the butt big time. I have seen them trashed in as little as 35K miles. In that case, the owner let the oil go over 10K between changes. The engine was so full of sludge that it ended up cheaper to replace the engine.
What are you guys talking about? I have a 2012 g37 with 55000 miles and it doesn’t use a drop of oil and I run mobil 1 with a knn oil filter. Oil stays respectably more clean compared to my 06 impala ss.
Is VQ a good engine? No... ... ... ... It's perfect engine, one of the best ever. 03' Max QX (American Infiniti i30) around 250k km and still running like it was made yesterday.
My variance my first experience with a VQ motor is my 01 Maxima 5th gen with the VQ30DE. Bought her with 231k miles. Put about at least 8000 Miles on her in a single year and still running strong. I've straight pipe, cold air intake, head unit and brand new speakers. She's the greatest first I've ever owned. The VQ motor is a good V6 displacement out of most other v6s that I could think of in my opinion
G35 04 is about 280 hp ! It's keep getting faster and faster every year lol 😂 Infiniti don't play around with this stuff huh 😭💯 that's what I love about it. I think G series got the best out of it own generation. Everything about it just amazing from inside out. Also a good budget sporty car as well.
Yessir i can attest to that, and i feel the same way i have the VQ35DE in my 04 Pathfinder LE Platinum ed. and the truck just seems to keep getting faster and faster!, not many people line up against it man i slain bmw 325/330's like clock work, i just laugh when people pull up and underestimate my Pathfinder but yeah hr doesnt know what he's talking about because they had different hp ratings the base model VQ35 had 235hp for like Maximas and the Xterra and base Pathfinder, the LE/Platinum ed carried the higher performance engine rated @260hp 280tq that Nissan put in the Infinity/the Pathfinder's brother the QX50 which is an ugly truck, the Pathfinder with its smooth lines is an much better looking truck and i love mines.
Our 04 Pathfinder has the VQ35DE and it is very fast for something that's known to haul kids around, didn't know oil consumption was such a big thing on these cars
Built one in 2014...today 2018...4 years later still running strong. Just check oils and no money shot if doing some street stupidity. Whoever says its a bad motor is because spend its oil change money on ebay cosmetics parts.
VQ37VHR with a tune to make the VVEL system to really work it's magic and produce 400 hp with only a full 48 state legal exhaust system and cold air intake.
The VQ35DE engine started in the 2002 Max, the early Vq35 engines were notorious for oil burning due to the piston rings wearing prematurely ... 2001 was the last year for the VQ30DE , which was on the Wards 10 best engines since it's inception in 1995 which Nissan used as a platform for the VQ35. Strong engines nonetheless
03 maxima 6 speed was a beast, but man it burned major oil. The cheap plastic valve cover gaskets caused lots of issues with oil leaking into the rear ignition coils.
But would you ever spend the time and $ to swap a VQ into lets say an S chassis that see's track time? I think a VQ35HR sounds like a cool NA swap for my S14 but feel like the juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze and do a lighter weight Honda K24 or F22 swap for my track build.
My 96 prelude got stollen , been doing some research on these vq motors for about a month I love Honda motors especially the h series but I'm slowly switching to the Nissan family can't go wrong with rwd! Oil consumption isn't nothing new to me lol I'm used to crusing around with at least a quart of mobil in my trunk with the fiber reinforced metal internals my old car had lmao . But you can't be the sound of a high compression vq motor
The newer si is pretty quick and keeps up on take off but my vq35hr stock still gaps is. My golf gti vr6 is almost tied with the si but even my stock vr6 stilll pulls on the si the type r is a different story. They are just light and fast as hell especially tuned
hey DNALI kinda late here but i was wondering do you fill up with 91 octane or 89 since being where i live 89 is more widely available im looking into buying a g just haven't found the right one yet.
It's a perfect engine had one for 8 yrs. Now to the new but what I dislike were the fuckn bushings and mass air flow sensors those I changed often, but the motor was perfect with great maintenance.
I change my mind i might keep mine put a twin turbo on it and stainless exuast + aluminium pulleyies proberly replace the headlights with more fancy ones and maybe some of the things you done my one is 2005 350gt sedan also might purchase a BMW aswell
The VQ is in the Xterra as well. "Detuned" is a bit unfair. What they did for the Xterra is they stroked the VQ35 to displace 4L (hence VQ40), which lessens horsepower, but increases torque, and broadens the power band, which is what you want for a truck/off road rig. Not detuned, just differently tuned. 15 years old and still the torque leader in small truck gas engines. Cheers man!
This video is very miss leading. Any NA engine isn't going to get much from air filters, exhausts and remaps. But this VQ35 block can run around 400-450bhp with a turbo kit without needing to build any of the engine...
I had a 3.5 vq in my nissan pathfinder (2001) and it drank oil and I eventually blew the head gasket on it while towing. It seemed like an ok motor overall but Terrible motor for an SUV. I bought a g37 after that and its a fun car but it lags at lower RPM's especially when you put the throttle down from coasting at moderate speeds but if you are in the powerband and put your foot down the thing can be scary fast.
I walk 2013+ v6 mustangs easily in my 2004 G35 Coupe 6mt with only a few bolt-ons. (intake, plenum spacer, catback exhaust) Don't forget the sedans were also de-tuned, coupes make 286hp at the flywheel.
Can't agree with the maxima comment. I have an 03 g35 and I raced my buddies modded maxima and it wasn't even close. Everything else is spot on. Good video
All facts. I have the vq35de revup in my Z. Full bolt ons and tune won’t even get you 300whp. However it will noticeably wake the car up. It’s really just a fun car from factory. But if you’re power hungry and hp means everything, then I’d get another platform. Unless you’re ready to spend a ton of money with forced induction.
Stock VQ35 can handle 8 pounds of boost. Anymore than that you are pushing it. I plan on getting a twin turbo kit for mine after I change the sleeves and get the stroker kit for it and change the heads. The stroker kit alone is 5600 and the G Reddy turbo kit is 7000.
My 2003 Nissan Murano Has The VQ35 Making 250 Horses, The Engines Were Used Up Untill 2007 Which Is When Nissan Changes There Body Style And Updated To The New VQ37 Engine... So To Answer Your Question It Was Introduced In 2003 And It Was Changed In 2007
Kyle Stewart .I agree, same here ,with my m35.She burns no oil ,guess I got the good Bach, eh.gd luck with yours she should last ,check oil at least once every two weeks.
J Dog yeah I check my oil often because I do almost no highway driving but mine burns no oil whatsoever. I do take it out on the highway for 15-30min every couple of weeks just to try and avoid too much carbon buildup but the vast majority of the miles I put on it are stop and go, 45mph driving. I live in a suburban area and my commute to work is about 5-10 minutes. My mpg's aren't so great either because of that. Most of the time I average 14mpg just because I'm almost never on the highway.
@@angelbluerider9588 I've been driving it constantly for 2 months now. Just checked the oil a couple days ago and it's still at the exact level it should be, so I think I'm clear of consumption issues but only more time will tell. I think most people who have that issue have an 03/04 model with the revup engine which I dont have.
@@grim3567 03-04 have the regular DE, 05-06 have the rev-up models. Other than the years, u can tell which VQ model is which based on how high it revs. DEs revs to 6600rpms, DE rev-up revs to 7000rpms and HR revs to 7500rpms
I love my 05 G35 X, only issue I have had and I was wondering if you or any of your subscribers have had, fuel gauge works but reads wrong says 3/4 tank and it's about out. Any ideas?
I have an 03 coupe. Deleted cats and a cat back stainless Z1 exhaust. Im gonna put some aftermarket nrg seats in it soon, get rid of the 200 pounds worth of front seats. Lol then im looking at a set of 370z wheels and some coilovers.
I just bought s 2008 g35 sedan with 32k miles. I heard the 2008 is the better version of all 3. The high rev has the most problems with oil consumption and the engine before.
Jail Corruption you can do that, it won't hurt a thing, especially in summertime. Btw, I've had a 77' 280Z, an 81 280ZX, 2 1985 BMW 635csi's, & now the 2006 G35 SC. Every one of them USED some oil but didn't BURN oil. Best thing is just change it on time, never skimp. VQ' s ROCK, just treat it like you want to keep it forever & don't let lots of small repairs pile up.
I put 0w-40 in a 2004 G and the pump wouldn't pick up the oil herd that timing chain....yuck...so thinking it was thin. I switched to 10w-30 for all my oil changes and went 150k after....no prob.
I swap my engine oil every month no lie I'm so sacred of the oil burning. but I took the precaution of checking my oil gaskets and pvc valve. as long as those gaskets are intact u can actually slow the process down thru my experiences. oh btw I only spent like 500 on my ride for headers and installation. I also made an intake that was less than 100 dollars so maybe like 400 has been dumped in my ride no exhaust yet but coming soon..so I haven't spent much on mods and car is reliable as shit.
I got a 07 g35s sedan with the HR motor a not even sure why it has four doors that things drives like a coupe and does 120 at ease i constantly have to chwck how fast im going otherwise i be at 90mph and cant even tell
Lmao so true...I have a 08 g35 sedan with an HR and I find myself going 60-70 in residential areas without even noticing...this thing has some serious power. Coming from a former mustang owner
A limit of 400hp on the stock internals of a 3.5L is just not impressive to me. You got S2000s around here running for years with 600whp+ on stock internals out of a 2.0 or 2.2L...smh. Thank god the HRs are a little better.
@@taylon5200 Yeah, it didn't use to be like it is now. They used to be closer in price. s2000's are holding their value because they're a better built car. But hey, things change over time. Nothing wrong with A DE OR HR 350Z. Just depends on your goals. A DE is fine if you plan on staying mild N/A or swapping it out. HR is better if you plan on boosting.
with right mods it's not hard to get 300+hp out of a VQ35DE in a Maxima with right mods. I've seen Dyno videos around RU-vid of 5.5 gen maximas putting down 290+hp at the wheels. headers, 3"exhaust system, larger throttle body, open filter , 4" intake and tune.
My first VQ car was an Altima and still is over 7 years later. There is some "mods" to the engine but mostly intake and exhaust with tune. Makes decent power yea but the surprise factor is the handling. Not a lot of money spent made this car into a corner killer.
Hey bro you not lieing about the VQ35DE im still dustin doors off of bmw's and older Mustangs and 350/370z's in 2004 Nissan Pathfinder LE Platinum ed.R50.
