@@ricardoludwig4787 WWA is not sauce. It was a mistake of a mechanic that everyone hated, made the game demonstrably worse while it existed, and should not be taken seriously in a discussion of good, fun balance. Sauce is Bedman's new double sideswitch air combos with wicked crossup overhead resets.
@@ricardoludwig4787 it really wasn't. Bedman used WWA because it was good, not because it was making up for his flaws. It wasn't shoring up the neutral weakness like Pot or doubling down the approach like Goldlewis, or enabling resource reset like Nago. Bedman would've preferred RWA last patch because it had such awful time making spin or the chain explosion link up properly. Being able to do universal offense via vacuum j S and consistently choose spin on hit without dropping is way better than WWA. It lets him mix and confirm
@@HellecticMojoI think WWA hurt bedman a decent amount, because one of his main flaws are his neutral, and specifically his lack of a midscreen presence, and WWA give him an error or an RC to get in it was still very useful to start your offense, along with the fact that you could also use it in pressure resets to continue your block strings. while i do agree that vacuum j.s gives a lot of the same reward and greatly boosts his offense and pressure, espacially with safe jumps and 50/50s with the new j.d as well along with being a much healthier solution than WWA bedman definitely still took a hit from losing it, a much smaller one than other users but still a hit nonetheless
@@renann3I disagree heavily with zato being a small winner. He got some of the biggest buffs in the patch. Pierce coming out faster even by one or two frames is amazing as it become harder to react to in neutral. Break the law becoming a move to actually consider inputting. And the Eddie Guage change definitely being the biggest. Although, I still think if zato blocks yrc or burst, Eddie should be left on screen if behind zato (you shouldn't be punished that hard for accurately predicting defensive options).
@@ArcDemon74096 Recall takes way too much time and can't be done willy nilly to bait bursts or yrc; he had break the law for that but arcsys decided that the move should no longer work for its intended purpose, and made it a mixup tool only
I love how a lot of this video is "this character can do x now which is a really good thing, an example of a character who can do a similar thing is Baiken who does the same thing but way worse" (I get it though she didn't deserve that)
@nhall129 Look, if zato mains had to deal with their character being tough to play so can we, I think we have a chance, but light always look dim from the other side of the tunnel, you gotta get to it for it to shine, let's wait for October, smth good might happen.
Emphasis is on biggest. Axl got increased conversion ability but he always gets that As a Testament player, their new stuff looks good but not super impactful. It makes things more accessible and more consistent which is nice, but that's the type of changes they tend to get in general Pot stuff is nice, I actually didn't check frame adv on kd, but he also got WWA nerf. Pretty much when I do these, I try to highlight the things I think are the most important.
@@LordKnightfgc Pot changes were pretty big and in my opinion offset the wwa nerf. JD is almost fully disjointed making it very hard to contest with an anti air. 5H gives hard knockdowns in many combos Hammerfall also gives hard knockdowns in many combos. Both knockdowns are + enough to get garuda. Besides combos, the hammerfall change also change the risk/reward dynamic as a non CH hit hammerfall gives garuda oki. Before Pot did not get oki off of normal hit hammerfall. HPB had a ton of changes. 10 more damage and minimum 50% damage. Minimum damage of 100 (not accounting for defense/guts). That made made it a optimal in a lot of combos. Besides that the hitbox is now much larger making it more consistent and hitting many things it previously couldn't. If you haven't seen it, it hit millias iron savior even. And some more buffs.
@@juiceyspice8671 I played against a potemkin and yeah the changes are huge. 5H hard knockdown is litteraly game changing cause u got confirmed garuda impact oki when hitting the 5H which is really a big difference. Add that with the garuda range/consistence improved, and the character that now do not suffer much from DP's cause they can't be canceled into roman cancel (he was one of the characters that suffers the most because of garuda impact oki being absolutely countered). Definitely top tier right now, there's not much counter for him right now unless u play champions with good zoning and range like Happy chaos or Asuka.
@@LordKnightfgc Hey, thanks for the breakdown, big homie! I certainly acknowledge you covered the "Biggest", but I guess my question was because the Testament and Pot changes on paper seemed big. I definitely appreciate the insight and you taking the time to answer my question!
The fact that she didn't recieve compensatory buffs is wild. We lost it's damage, it's safety with meter. If they're going to keep those things removed, she needs to get oko afterwards then. Her ability to parry is a big part of how she's able to condition and enforce her risky offense. This nerf makes it a completely ignoreable option by the opponent. It's become even less scary than just taking a throw. Nobody is going to care abt parry when pressuring her now lol
Been waiting for this one, baiken parry getting hit makes no sense to me but im okay with the DP change overall for the rest of the actual DP characters
Arcsys makes universal changes in GGST before making character specific changes. Meterless reversals were getting hit, so all meterless reversals were getting hit. It's nowhere as bad as history of Anji who's been getting pushed and pulled in every direction each season.
@@HellecticMojo I don't disagree with that, I just find the change weird as Baiken's parry doesnt share many of the uses with any of the other DPs other than being RC'd for combo nor did it gain the buffs that DPs got as far as I understand
Bedman JS also reduces startups. This lets him to cs->5S-HS->2HS->Beyblade (or overdrive). A 60% life combo, on Ky (with wallbreak) Beyblade is more like 40% if you end with it. This combo is new, as you can not normally do the close slash combo into 2HS. Unless I've just sucked at bedman for months.
All Millia got from them in season 3 was one general mechanics and they immediately took it away from her... without giving anything in return. It just can't be wrong balance...This game balance has an extreme degree of surrealism... Meanwhile when Sol gets the conversion after dp... insane
if any DLC character were to receive a new special i genuinely think it would be Baiken instead of Goldlewis. since day 1 everyone who likes Baiken believes she has been a failure in terms of character iteration and as a Guilty Gear Strive character. she has the unique dilemma of having a fundamentally incomplete kit that nerfs and buffs wont fix, with her inability to do gatlings consistently, her extremely linear approach options, and the entire ideology of her being a defensive character reduced to a now unviable parry. taking away the only thing that made her parry usable really exposes how fundamentally flawed she has always been as a Strive character.
i dunno where goldlewis came from in terms of new moves for dlc characters, hes a character with a lot of strength concentrated in his special moves in exchange for having very few of them (skyfish is the exception, its just a matchup equalizer for when drone is too slow or as a guts crush lmao), although he was of course initially intended to be base roster so you could say gl players got robbed of the extra special move
@@desperado3347 the general consensus whenever the topic of binging up dlc characters getting new moves is always "the only dlc character that could possibly get a new move is goldlewis since he was technically supposed to be in the base roster"
Hey, sure, it was ‘meant for base roster to be the only ones with new moves’ but saying some characters like Baiken, GL, and Sin (Fucking heavy Bias on Sin, admittedly) would be great. (Bring back Air Beak driver damnit.)
@@lojika1majik it would be fun to bring back older moves but it's a different case with Baiken in that her kit is so inherently undertuned that she *NEEDS* a returning move like suzuran or a complete rework to hiiragi to be a more viable character. She was already struggling as a mid tier when she had WA wallbreak and parry RC. She lost two of her strongest pieces of her kit just by the universal changes and I think she's genuinely an unviable character now. Don't give the proclaimed 'defensive' character the worst defensive option in the game and then make it even worse by taking almost all reward from it.
Baiken is just trash now. Her parry was already gutted by a damage nerf, the tiny active window was never widened and now you can't RC it. It's a pointless move as the risk is not worth the reward. Not even worth it to use her anymore.
baiken was nerfed to make sense with her lore, delilah didn't let her sleep because she made baiken buy papercard at 5 am to take to school, now she is tired and don't want to fight anymore
0:26 THIS IS A SMALL BALANCE PATCH?!?!? Excuse me but I'm a new player to guilty gear strive, but in other games I've played *cough Splatoon 3 cough cough* this is an insane amount of changes for one patch!
I actually like the DPRC nerf although DPRC had been a tradition to the series. Only a few characters in this game have meterless DP and I really hate it when those characters just spam the DPRC as a get off me option whenever they are blocking. It's just too easy for them to switch from defense to offense with the DPRC. Even if you read the DP coming, there's nothing you can do if they can just RC after their DP got blocked.
I definitely think May is a loser this patch. Obviously she wasn't nerfed in a meaningful way, but she heavily relies on system mechanics, so the stronger they are the stronger she is and the weaker they are the weaker she is. The nerf to WA (as in the reduction of burst gain throughout a round) makes it really hard for May to become plus from most mid screen interactions. Typically you are fishing for counter hit 2S mid screen since people like to spam 6P since it beats 90% of your options outside of 2K range. With WA you can turn that into a wall break, but it can be tricky to hit confirm. Typically you are buffering 2S into WA and if it's a counter hit you'd hold it and get the wall break but if it's a regular hit or a block you just tap it to get a HKD or pressure. Basically with less burst all around, you have less opportunities to convert into even a HKD from your mid ranged pokes. You could argue everyone lost that, but I think May is uniquely the only character who can only confirm into a +0 situation with [4]6S dolphin without resources. Most other characters have SOME sort of confirm into a soft knock down, particularly on counter hits. I'm not saying May is bottom 2 or even mid tier, I'm just saying she lost a considerable amount of consistency this patch compared to the rest of the cast. Bursting feels so bad if you have no meter. You'll land a counter hit 2S>[4]6S, be +0, lose RPS and immediately get sent back into the corner or thru the wall if you aren't extremely careful. Again, I know it's that way for everyone, but I feel like May loses a considerable amount of bite to her mid screen conversions if she has no resources compared to everyone else. Back when she had the ground bounce on 6H her mid screen conversions were crazy on cS and counter hit 5K so I thought it was a gigantic nerf to lose that, but WA seemed to make up for it. Now with less WA, it just feels worse overall since you are so reliant on it. Those are my initial impressions of this patch at least. I've probably done like 50 games so far and I love the wall break changes since I felt like compared to some characters, it's not as much of a win con for May as much as just having resources flowing in is. But I do feel the burst meter changes intensely, since I felt like I was relying on resources to "stick" to my opponent where my opponent just lands "anything" gets a soft KD and is now running it. I feel like I really got 2 chances to get started or else I'm at a disadvantage in neutral (even if we both have resources), but then again it could just be me.
4:26 This is the reason why I decided to take a breeak from the game until I find a new main. I know a lot of people disagree, but personally I now think Baiken is trash.
After I saw Baiken get hit with the reversal nerf, I was like, "I thought the whole point of her parry was that she had one of the few safe to PRC reversals in the game?" (I heard that somewhere when I got into Strive). Anyways, I wasn't sure how big of a hit it would be since I'm a floor 7 player at best and rarely, if ever, have PRC'd a parry. So I took to Twitter to see LK's response and watching him vent about the patch was hilarious and also vindicating. I really hope they give Baiken some love in the next patch
As a bedman Im extremely happy with the changes but Im sad they didn't give alot of love to Baiken since like u said she suffered from similar problems
Ngl, I thought you were dooming Baiken when I read your Twitter post when the patches notes dropped, but nah, she got left behind 😞. Also, check out Sin’s DP, he got done dirty. That DO nerf might be the biggest nerf this patch.
id say the wwa nerf was more impactful, both of the new top 5 characters had their reign ended by this patch but goldlewis crutched far harder on wwa to be top tier than sin did on dp rps
Sin actually got directly nerfed on top of the system mechanic changes to reversals. He now can't use gazelle step or the hawk baker follow up when the DP gets blocked. LK out here putting out misinformation.
@@LordKnightfgcyep it’s true unfortunately. it has made his dp go from one of the best in the game to truly one of the worst. definitely worth talking about in your video specific to the reversal nerfs.
I can't stand the H dp change losing all invulnerability frames, at least make it fully invincible against opponents that are in the air. I used to use it as anti air in cases 6p doesn't work or when I get shock state with Ky on opponent and now H dp is almost completely useless
H DP is for combos. Ky gets a meterless follow up if he lands H DP while the opponent is in shock state, and Sol's just does massive damage. H DP is not your anti air or revsersal. S DP is your reversal and 6P is your anti air and in some rare cases, 2H counter hit is a good anti air combo starter (it's especially strong for Ky)
I just started watching and you sound sooo mad! I hope Baiken gets buffed and you eventually play her again, I loved your baiken style (even though I dropped her in favour of aba 😅)
Would you say Testameant is still pretty bottom tier after changes? Im just getting into the game and thought they looked cool but am afraid ill be giving myself a hard time learning the game if they are just extremely underpowered
Are you really switching to May now? If so I'm looking forward to seeing more May representation. At least until arcsys decides to do her like millia and baiken ...
@@mattb6616 I don't know about that one chief. In season 3 she's been the worst top tier, but she's still no worse than 7th. She just has some unfortunate bad matchups against common characters
@@arw000 I'm a very simple minded dullard, so I see May being a popular character pick but having little to no tournament success outside of one specialist (slash) as meaning she isn't very strong. She seems like the SF6 E. Honda of guilty gear, a character who is very successful at low to high ranks because of big easy buttons and specials, but unsuccessful at the professional level because their kit is too simplistic, shallow, and predictable.
The funny thing is that he achieved everything in Guilty Gear playing as Millia. Strive destroyed Millia and his career. By losing Millia, he lost everything. Hey buddy, come on, switch to DLS+ p2w garbage and start winning. there in this game are no other ways😂😂😂😂😂
I'm feeling pretty positive about the testament changes, but they're still pretty power crept unfortunately. Gonna stick with them though, can't deny myself my favorite
Baiken Bros can’t catch a break. No more hard knockdown off blue wa is crazy bad, and makes matchups against zoners even worse than before. I really hope Baiken gets something in the future to help her like more Conversations in general.
hot take: sin is a winner from this patch. he lost a lot, but he now has (i beleive) the only dp that you can get any sort of reward off of (he gets oki)
@@konebany7317 It's okay, she's just a defensive character whose buttons don't convert into any meaningful combo unless she's jumping face first into the enemy
Ok, out of sheer curiosity, did you choose not to talk about testament buffs because you think that they're not worth mentioning, or did you simply forget?
just for you LK, i think Baiken parry should steal positive bonus if it connects. if you deny someone a post wall setup, that's your meter now. (gamers this is a JOKE)(I'd still play that version of the game though)
Strive is a beautiful game because everyone who played x2 or xrd eventually has to suffer with their main coming back. If your main is still enjoyable arcsys will assure you that they'll make you suffer somehow.
