I remember the Amorica album being released a few days after my 19th birthday when I lived in Minnesota. More than 28 years have passed and I can still remember the first time I heard Wiser Time. In my Jeep, on the way back from Best Buy in La Crosse, WI, because they actually had the CD. A lot has changed since then. I've traveled so many miles and lived in so many places that I understand the lyrics "you ask me why another road song, funny but I bet you never left home". The music remains the same. What I wouldn't give for one more ride in that old Jeep up the Mississippi River valley back from La Crosse to the town famous for its red light district and stone... and an actress who was named for that town and is now the mom in Stranger Things. I live on the other side of the country now. I feel like going back there, but never for long. All I really need is this song and it can take me back there any time I want.
I hear this song and its 20 years ago. It's 2 am and I'm an hour out from Barstow on my way from LA to Vegas. My car is fast and quiet, what could be better than to be young and at the beginning of a journey that's conclusion is uncertain. And to have a song like this playing to sear the memory into the mind, thanks Black crowes
These guys should be in the HOF! They write great songs. Chris sings them well. Rich sings well too, (love his voice on 'Oh Sweet Nuthin'). He's also a great guitarist. And they harmonize beautifully. What's not to like?
I can't even count the 800 thousand chills on my arms that this song gives...oh wait, i just counted 800 thousand! Seriously, unreal. Best jam online ever...surreal, organic and what music is supposed to represent.
You can never know what it's like to be 1500 miles from home, with a $1.50 in your pocket, playing a set of 9-Ball for $500, until you do it.. The road, man... A special time in my life.. Great Song (I wore out this tape on the road, in 1995)..
First time i ever heard this song was in a Jam session with a great friend and mentor of mine. Been coming back to this song every time i need to sit back and let life take its course. Im 21, Drums are my life, Rock n Roll my first love. Dont know what life has for me yet, letting life take the wheel. peace and love.
My favorite version of this song. So mellow and soulful. Ahhh Luther Dickinson adds a mellow dimension I can't even put into words. He makes it look so effortless, and his tone is nothing short of heaven.
saw these guys live twice and to this day those are probably the two best shows I've ever attended. Every song became this awesome jam session. One song they took what was basically a 2 chord bridge and turned it into the heart of a 10 minute jam and when they finally jumped back to the song it was like coming home
One of my favorite songs as well Chris,,, the only problem I have with it is that it makes me miss my brother...JAMES.... ROCK ON CROWS,,, your music & lyrics make my life a little bit easier deal with...and at the age of 58 I need all the help I can receive. And what a wonderful place to receive it from, you're band is a blessing to us all....
I agree, and I notice that Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi was playing lead during this sitting. North Mississippi's first two CD's had several riffs that sounded like the 70's Allman classics, it's amazing to hear the influences of musicians in their playing. I read somewhere where Luther's Daddy, a talented musician in his own right, has always been a Allman Brother, delta blue aficionado.
Not sure I’ve ever equated a guitar sound to food but Luther’s guitar is just plain subtle vanilla creamy goodness. Keys too. This is this bands member sweet spot IMHO.
I grew up near Chis and Rich but was in a different school system and we never met. Apparently their father was a douche but spurred them to become a professional band. Chris and I are the same age but we chose different paths. I am extremely proud to call them my Home Boys
fortunate enough to have seen them 9 different times. including two club shows and a large venue with Jimmy Page. They ALWAYS delivered. Anyone here remember the Attic in Greenville, NC?
my kids and I like to gauge music on the 50 year rule - will a band / singer still be played 50 years from now? (basically that eliminates 95% of pop/rb/hip hop music produced today) The Black Crowes will always be played and loved. Just like every generation "rediscovers" Pink Floyd, the Eagles, U2, Talking Heads, Rush, etc., future generations will discover and appreciate the depth of this music.
Hands Down the best they ever did. Always a Jam and always on time. Perhaps I am partial, Chris and I are the same age and grew up less than 10 miles apart. But if they were from the Moon, this is still my faveorite song
black crowes have been thru a few guitar players, but none so smooth as Luther. this song pretty much tells the tale. really a nice piece of music here. congrats guys, you were the best bar band in the country for a long time.
Had a quarrel at the parking lot.......not a good day today. Listening to this beautiful song to pacify myself. It's working, it's really working. Wow! how melodious and therapeutic music can be.
"running, but you never left home." That made me think. I've been getting around for a long time now. Not really finding exactly what i was looking for, and I didn't have a perfectly clear thought on what this was. People can fill your head where you are supposed to be and it can lead you to places that have nothing to do with anything in your life. I talked to a chap at the grocery store today while he bagged my groceries we had a small conversation that felt like home...I don't think there is really a physical place that I'm supposed to be, but a place where the right people around me, talking about the right things. People make the home, not promises or material necessarily, but just when you can have some good conversation on what you are milling over and over in your own mind makes a good time and place. Connection is the most important thing out there. Hope everyones got that in their life right now and forever after.
j dawg, I couldn’t agree with you more. Sometimes you share DNA with your family and sometimes you choose each other. Even a moment of genuine conversation can be satisfying and memorable.
Fantastic vocal harmonies and outstanding musicianship. I remember the days of Black Crowes. What a different world we lived in back then. Chris's voice is so amazing. Great front man.
WOW that was the BADDEST live I've seen in a long while. The vibe was super chill, Chris should've smoked a fatty while his Brother went raw solo, I even shed a tear it was what I needed today 8-25-23!!!! ❤
Saw them two days ago. Sick show! On the way out after the show this chick was screaming WHHHOOOO!!! At the fucking top of her lungs. I looked at my girl and said that is exactly how I feel right now. She let loose in the parking lot and we could still hear her 3000 feet away. Great show.
I used to drive from yardley pa to Morgantown WV with two ounces of weed taped to the bottom of my seat and five ready rolls with this album on repeat.
saw them 1998 Shreveport.brick town.we caught the sound check .dropped some funny looking pieces of paper my girl and I she saw a light show in the daytime....good times I was 18 free and white ...couldn't get much better
I LOVE Chris so much !!!!! He is so real in his songs; I pray Chris and Rich will make up and be brothers again, they don't have to be in a band but just be brothers again
I adore this song; any form that ice heard it in. I understand Chris and Rich's relationship well. My sister and I haven't shared their experience exactly as they have, but we've shared the loss of our father and two brothers. We grew up together on smoke, drink, Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Miles. As much as I miss our Dad and bros, I'm SO grateful for the bond that Anne Marie and I share. Thank you, Great Spirit, for our spiritual close proximity. We can go a month or two without talking, but we pick up like we just hung out yesterday. Whatever God anyone believes in, it's the one that unites souls.
It's impressive how well they nail such a subdued groove with ease rather than attack. Restraint, confidence and mastering that backbeat really is the sign of a great band. How many young bands pull of this kind of arrangement these days?
This sums up On The Road and zen and motorcycle maintenance. Hit the road and have the truth and joy along with the trials present themselves. Hit the road and spend a couple days each week seeing music like this or the Allmans or dead. Adventure. This song is aware of that vibe. I hope thT the kids today put their electronics away and Hit the backroads and blue highways.
Chris has reflections of Otis Redding in his delivery. No coincidence that they recorded “ Hard to Handle”.Not to say his style isn’t his own. Chris is one of the best vocalists of my time.
It’s one of their best tunes , but what really gets my attention is- and it’s no coincidence, I’m sure it was a brilliantly planned “hook” : the first break with the drums (2X beat) . The chord progression is so relaxing and reminds me of sitting in a beach chair on the beach , in the shade , with a cool buzz - just loving, living life.
So got a big 48yr grown ass humbled son smile across my face as I saved this... A clean vision of what should be an "older yet wiser time" ! The playlist u-tube selected from the 987 & 1/2 playlist I have, I'm a music Horder? Unexpectedly was { Pops Trippn' still } popped up & that's exactly who I was relishing in at that moment!... I need u Daddy... The Man I sometimes fought to forgive & love, I cherish now.... The Good definitely outweighed the bad! TY
