broke a gstring and jammed till the tech got the spare tuned to open g and capoed right, then he goes off. chris covered on harp till they were ready. two of the best.
Southern harmony and Musical Companion is as good an album as has been recorded by any band at any time. It's no exaggeration to call it a Blues-Rock masterpiece.
Agreed, more over the days the band did a short (11of55 shows) touring with Jimmy doing Led covers his voice was absolutely incredible, never heard more range and strength!
Saw them when Chris was not at peak performance but neither was I. Next time I saw them they jumped into and owned a spot in my top ten live shows. That includes The Who, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana, Jethro Tull, Tom Petty, and many others. Bto. Eagles. Buffet. Foreigner. Boston. Silver Bullit band. Nugent. (Even tho has a douche ) but I didn't know that in '78.
Absolutely. Question will be who all gets in. Def Gorman, Eddie and Ford ; but Cease ? Which bassist ? It's a crapshoot with all the talent they have had play with them ...I actually love the By Your Side era band
Every time I watch this performance, I’m absolutely floored, the raw talent and passion displayed just takes me to another realm, thank you gentlemen for this gift of such abandon, truly my favorite, much Love and Respect. ❤️❤️
Rich Robinson on the guitar is far above elite level guitarists , absolutely flawless performance, and Chris's vocals and harmonica skills are next talent and brilliance!!! Thank You both for that epic performance
I love Chris' voice. I wouldn't say he's the best rock vocalist ever lol but he may have the most soul. The first time I listened to shake your money maker all those years ago I was floored.
@@kevinwatson4541 The early 90's rockmusic was dominated by grunge with a lot overrated bands. But there also were two bands from Georgia challenged the music bizz successful. The Crowes and R.E.M. Still love both.
When words aren't enough there's music. And when your music isn't enough there's the brother Robinson. Absolutel brilliance and pure genius. Thanks God...for music. Amen
When I see someone say this band/these guys are so "under rated" I sit back and think where have you been living?? Under a rock?? Or are you like some teenager or kid that's never heard anything good??
Way to go guys . Pure southern rock at its finest!!!! Bro I my brothers bro I. Your music makes me happy and I just love the band. Thank you for such up beat music.
Black Crows I f****** love this band I'm black but I love music for what the music is this music is soulful and it's no way any one who has a love for music in itself can't love The Black Crows
Love the switch to the 2nd guitar, and how Rich stares at Chris during his solo. It used to drive my brother nuts when I would stare at him while playing guitar. Little does he know I was I didn't even see him. These guys are GODS!
Watching 4/17/2020 during global quarantine lock down. I keep coming back year after year to watch this. Man, this is music. Rich's G string breaks at around 3:00 and they work it out. So awesome. That is live music and giving a show. These guys so underrated right now. Seen them live so many times. Keep rockin in the free World. Sooouuullllll.
I don’t get excited about anyone very often, and when I do it’s almost always a group or a single musician or singer from a half century or more ago, but the Black Crows came along really in the late 80’s and they are in my opinion the best Rock band to come along in maybe 50 years or more. Beautiful harmonies and guitar, Soulful, never loosing touch with there northwest Atlanta roots, paying homage to everyone before them in music that really matters from Leadbelly and Atlanta blues legend blind Willie McTell, to Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash just to name a few. Both Chris and Rich are amazing musicians.
Rich is one of the most under-rated guitarist...honestly. From someone who plays, that was an amazing performance. He deserves a lot more acclaim than he gets. Rich should be considered within the top 10. His knowledge of the fret board and chord progression is ridiculous. He should go in the "Hall" twice, once for the Crowes and once for himself.
@@kckrye It may make it simple in your mind, however its not like hes just barring a fret and playing a chord with one finger now is it. He has used open tuning in some of the most imaginative ways possible throughout the years.
@@garethl78 In my mind? I play his stuff and love it. I've played stuff like that jamming with my buddies. It's really easy once you understand open tuning and the repeating patterns. Bron Yar Stomp used to sound hard until you find the world of open tuning and its really easy to play. The dude is awesome and created their sound. Love the Crowes. Watch guys like Joey Landreth and Derek Trucks too. Freaking amazing open tuning guitar players.
Never gonna happen. You don't treat your band as employees and you as the singer the King/God/Whatever and expect to play together. Best chance is more As the Crowe flies shows. Or Magpie if you're into that. Fuck, even CRB is on hiatus after their keyboardist/founding member quit and Neal (rip) offed himself. Moral of the story....don't ever get in bed with Chris Robinson. Period.
When they aren't wanting to kill each other, the brothers Robinson are an amazing duo. Nothing short of brilliance. It's really too bad they spend so much of their time hating each other.
They love each other enough to hold each other accountable. I for one can see the struggle they both have, Chris was never a perfect son, and he's had drug problems in the past. Sometimes working in that kind of environment can really weight on the soul. In a way, fueling each other's fire and hopefully by splitting up the band they will both be able to live healthier lives, and perhaps in the future they will get it back together and do a few tours. I have seen Chris doing great, he did As the Crow Flies with Marcus King, and that is such a stellar group. God Bless Scott Russell!1
I listen to them about everyday, and it is soooo cool because you are exactly right, everyday is a holiday while they are entertaining me! I am a blues freak anyway, and Chris has what it takes to fill the bill plus the band is phenomenal!!! Nothing phony about these guys!
@@szabawa6612 Aw man i envy you ! I've seen the Crowes a half dozen times & met them on the Southern Harmony tour. Saw Page & Plant on the 2 tours they did.
Great live version of a great song from a great band. I was blown away by this song when it was first released and immediately fell in love with it...and I still love it to this day. In fact, I am willing to stake a claim that the whole Southern Harmony and Musical Companion album is one of the best southern rock albums of all times; at least in the top 5. Thanks for sharing this, eerko.
I'm from the deep south all 55 years and I've never thought of the BC's as Southern rock. I hate that term. I don't consider Skynyrd, the ABB, Outlaws, Hatchet, Wet Willy, Elvin Bishop, Black Oak Arkansas, etc.. southern rock.
This is just amazing...robinsons voice has evolved into a thing of true beauty. Not only has he survived his youth,he has apparently refined his talent and become a very sophisticated artist.i could listen to this for hours
I am 62 and we were a truly blessed generation. We have it all. When all the best songs were coming out every...single...week... And I never thought it would stop... ANd now I know what song has what it takes to last 40-50 yrs!
"Thorn In My Pride" Wake me when the day breaks Show me how the sun shines Tell me about your heartaches Who could be so unkind? Do you dream to touch me? And smile down deep inside Or could you just kill me? Hey, it's hard to make up your mind sometimes. My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride Are you wanting inspiration? You spill your secrets on me Then you tell me with a whisper Of things that will never be. Do you hear me breathing? Does it make you want to scream? Did you ever like a bad dream? Sometimes life is obscene. My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride Lover, cover me with your sleep Let your love light shine, let it shine Lover, cover me with a good dream Oh, let your love light Oh, let your love light shine Oh, I wanna know, do you ever wanna let it shine? Do you ever wanna let it shine, baby? Your love light, your love light Listen, lover, cover me with your sleep Let your love light shine, let it shine Lover, cover me with your sleep Let your love light shine, let it shine Lover, cover me with your dream Let your love light shine, let it shine Thorn in my pride
My God that was beautiful I loved every single second of the video the vocals top notch the guitar solo even better than that unbelievable only to be there and witness it in person
