I took my son to see these guys back when they were just getting started at a little venue in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was to young to get in by himself self. I was sure glad I took him.I’ve been impressed every since. He now has his own band in Nashville called “Mountains Like Wax”.
iv always known of them and heard the more popular tunes over the years. i watched the joe rogan episode (twice) and have been obsessed with them over the past week. listened to el camino 1000 times and bought a few of they're albums on cd including the first 2. its been a long time since i felt the spark of finding a new band and i think getting to know they're personalities first really helped. they seem like such genuine people and cant wait for more episode with them on JRE
been a fan since the early days and kind of lost interest until the new album came out - which I really enjoyed. Their appearance on JRE (which I also watched twice) just sent me back into obsessive mode with this band. Great performance here!
yeah oi, call it a omen or whatever, but i have always loved the black keys since the el camino days, an album i had to buy twice sadly. watched the joe rogan podcast with them, watched it again like 2 days later and been smashing out nothing but the black keys and i love the new album lets rock, as a metal head i can appreciate how hard the guitars actually are on that album, love the black keys truly is an amazing band.
@@cjbarton0055 My favourite band for years, along with Wilco and MMJ - but you really need to hear The Arcs (Dan's friend based side project) esp. the NPR Tiny Desk or KXP live versions. Unsurpassed!

May not need to be complex but technically sound. Ringo is a great example of this. A drummer should, as an example, be able to hit a rim shot on command. Having said that I do appreciate the attitude he brings.
These drum parts are not that simple, especially considering his skill in playing them. He was perfect all the way. And I love his sound. Way too many rock and metal bands destroy their drummer's effort entirely with bad sound and mixing. Not the case here.
Another Great Performance by The Black Keys. Congrats to Dan for winning Producer of the Year and to The Black Keys on adding a few more Grammys to their shelves at home. Can't wait to see you guys live!
I like the way they put the drummer at the front next to the lead singer they usually stick the drummer at the back! but you could'nt stick this drummer at the back he's the star of this show he's amazin love him to bits!
Inventor Rock Band, here you go: 0:20 Howlin’ For You 3:57 Next Girl 7:05 Gold on the Ceiling 11:00 Thickfreakness 14:20 I’ll Be Your Man 17:50 Your Touch 20:50 Little Black Submarines 25:35 Dead and Gone 29:35 Tighten Up 33:24 Lonely Boy 36:50 I Got Mine
I love this band! amazin! there isnt a song i dont like from these, but am still exploring them but i can't imagine that there will be a song i don't like. they are amazing live, like pink floyd they sound the same live as they do at home if not better! love the drummer he's cool!
Yes, but fortunately it wasn't all that long ago, when you consider bands like Queen, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and countless other greats. I was so happy to discover (early) White Stripes, then Black Keys. I thought WOW there are still younger bands coming up. Like Pink Floyd said something like "those who follow in our footsteps"... I love it all!
How come all of these top comments are talking about the keys as though they're some up and coming new band that started last year, these guys are vets of this era, at least call them by their names
Yes. They should be ashamed that they are sitting there respectively, watching an amazing band play. You're right, Ray. They should be screaming over the music.
I wish I could get this version of "I'll be Your Man." It's really nice. I like version from the Big Come Up, but the one from this set has a really pretty sound to it.
gibson0000... I was also wondering why Patrick sits high above his kit. I wouldn't be surprised if he does it to intentionally increase the leverage he has on the drums. You see how hard he beats those things? Awesome.
I was curious about this, too - the first time I saw him I was like "his drum kit's small." Yeah... No. He's tall and I love watching him play. I have a question. WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE SAY HE CAN'T PLAY DRUMS? WHAT AM I MISSING OR NOT HEARING in his playing that makes people say that? I know a decent amount about music - I play piano, can read music, I can sing, harmonize, I get time signatures, and while I'm not the greatest dancer (but damn close, people!) I know when I'm off beat or struggling to keep it. In other words, forgive me, but I don't see it and I don't get it. What's the deal? Either POV is welcome. Thanks!
Taryn Morvillo honestly don’t get it either ?! also an aspiring musician me and his rhythm is great; but personally not a percussionist so maybe it’s like his posture or something since he’s so tall, but while it might not be traditional it still works for him so i don’t know how people could fault that
Taryn Morvillo I truly love the Black Keys but I have to say that Patrick is far away from the academic technique and timekeeping. He looks like a beginner who would have played a lot with the same buddy , but never studied the instrument for itself with metronome and as a result kept all the defects that music schools and hours of practice avoid. I studied the drums and play for more than 30 years, it makes me considering the approach of the instrument. Maybe their success and what I love is due to the absolute contrast that they show in a world of technical competition and super-skilled virtuosos or computerized music. They refer to the very human part of music.
I like next girl and howling for you. Gold on the ceiling isnt the best tho, solo is ok but I prefer it if they played some bits off magic potion instead!
@@xcoolthefoolx But like straight up isn't he a giant? Far from my 5'2" self to have a realistic perspective, but - Patrick Carney has one hell of a wingspan - look at him, his arms are all over the place! And @ 6'5", unless we are comparing our musicians to NBA players, I'd say that qualifies as a ginormous guy. Who looks so sexy in glasses... love me some Patrick...
As a 6’5” drummer myself- I have my rig set up in pretty much the same way... low, flat, and spread out a bit. Doesn’t make you feel as cramped when you have long arms. Whenever I jump on someone else’s kit I feel like I’m having to T-Rex it just to fit in the kit.
Their energy and emotion changed so much (for the better) once they started playing with just the two of them. Dan seemed to be just going through the motions before that.
This. I was fortunate to see them live several times between Thickfreakness and Magic Potion era when it was just the two of them, somehow there's just more energy and less muddled sound with two just two dudes stomping out that blusey grit.
He literally makes me regress to age 12, when I was suddenly in the thick of a hormonal tsunami and I suddenly felt - oh how I ached with NEED for that obnoxious skater kid who snapped my bra every day the first month I wore one... And guys who had been my friends for, like, ever - I suddenly forgot how to talk - at all - when a select few were close to me. In my head, I'm saying, "Damn, Dan Auerbach writes songs that are almost as sinfully sexy as he is." What comes out of my mouth? "Daaaaaaaaahhh wwwhhhoooaaa sssssxxxxx eeeeeee oooohhhmmmhhhmmmm yeeeaaaasssss grrrrrrrr!" I'm 40 and jaded AF. But Dan, oh... I can't listen to or look at or conceptualize Dan Auerbach without throwing my brain out the window, speaking in tongues. I fail to understand anyone who does not agree with us... Clearly, they are wrong. My God, he isssss oooooohhhhhmmmm uuuhhrrrrrr aaaaahhhwwwwe...
