The Blade Runner RPG [Unboxing]

Games tend to be what we make them, but this one might contribute to an introspective noir feel with the looming threat of sudden violence (such as the opening scene in the kitchen in Blade Runner 2049)~

One thing I like about the game is that it focus on the noir investigative elements, but underscores that the game is not really about solving the case, but the ethical and moral choices of the characters. The game truly feels more pre-cyberpunk, but is unsurprisingly influenced by the later cyberpunk and post-cyberpunk litterature, games and tv/movie media.

@Dan Nielsen Right, the challenges of system are not focused on detection and deduction during investigations. It fits right in with how I like to run Call of Cthulhu~

@@Runeslinger That is exactly the comparison that came to mind when Dan said "noir investigation," Call of Cthulhu. I appreciate Bladerunner seems offer a combination of elements from beloved games like Cyberpunk and Cthulhu, while remaining true to its namesake. I was a little doubtful the game would offer a deep enough story since my mental image of the world is limited to the linear stories told in the movies. However, I'm beginning to get the feeling that once the initial layers are pealed back there may well be a wealth of substance and detail. Also, the "ethical and moral choices of the characters" mattering reminds me of Star Wars light side vs. dark side elements.

I would say that FFG met and often exceeded them, but those days are gone. We will have to see if Edge can hold that line. Still, your point stands. Free League sets the standard for anesthetics in gaming.

@@Runeslinger Mmm, yeah. L5R 5E is quite the looker, as was SW before it. I think Free League sets a good balance, though, in terms of visual flair and usability, whereas FFG was a bit excessive. Not just in their RPG products.

More motivation to emigrate to the off-world colonies~ ;)
