The Blidworth Colliery Disused Railway / Rufford Branch - Explore by Cycle
Apologies in advance there are a few moments of pixilated footage for some unknown reason.
This time i explore the former railway route to Blidworth Colliery in Nottinghamshire.
Closed in 1989, i swap 2 feet for 2 wheels and enjoy a ride along this former trackbed via the old Rufford Coal Stocking site. Additional Music by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0.

The concrete structure in the embankment was a unloading point for coal trucks. Blidworh also had a second line into to the pit from the mansfield to southwell line, some of a deep cutting and a wall from the bridge under southwell road is still there. Loving the videos as I have lived in Rainworth all my life.

Hi Ant. A lovely and enjoyable bike ride. Nice to a be able to come along with you 👍. The mile posts looked incredible, and with paint on still, could you ask for more? (other than visible numbers! 😉). I'm slightly puzzled about the concrete shaft, not a common object I've seen before. Stay safe mate, GWR

Blimey mate, cycling/talking to camera/flying a drone, is there no end to your talents!!! That was a nice spin through history along some very well surfaced cycle tracks, once again Nottinghamshire makes Lincolnshire look poor in comparison, you picked a lovely day for it to. The Sherwood Pines piece at the start brought back some lovely memories of riding through the site with my Son back in 2007, thanks.

It made a nice change didn't it? It was a sod making sure I had it all in the correct order. Bike cam, my cam, drone and phone 🤣 I also filmed the return journey in real-time. I may upload it... I didn't see a sole in Sherwood Pines

@@TrekkingExploration It's the same around here, no-one around anywhere. My Son Kieran and I took the dog out for a stroll this afternoon, we walked for about an hour and didn't see a single person or car at all. It's great for the whole of nature, the animals must be wondering what the hell is going on with all this silence. When I was out taking that photo of Venus the other night I heard some rustling in the bushes, then out came a hedgehog just doing his thing and loving the quiet!!

Picked up the route at the Dog and Duck in Kings Clipstone and followed it down to Blidworth :) I had quite a nose about at the Rufford site and ended up seeing a lot of the same sights as you 👍 I've also done the Cotgrave branch line route and been to see the entrance to the Mapperley tunnel thanks to your videos! As i have mentioned before Ant, i remember doing a bit of motocross on the back of the old Rufford site back in 2011-12 when there was an organised track on there. You do not appreciate how vast that site is. I did not realise i was on the old colliery site until i saw the old weighbridge concrete structure and old demolished pit buildings. I used to come in from the Rainworth Bypass end. Thanks for a great video once again.

I think what you found on the slag heap was a vent to vent off any gases which would build in the slag heap.

Think the concrete shaft at the end was a vent to let out any gases such as methane that might form in the slag heap

I think the first piece of concrete was loading pad from stocking site, and second maybe a weighbridge for wagons? Track was still down here till 2008 as I walked it, track was there from bypass to clipstone triangle. The photo in the middle of vid is actually the rufford to mansfield line taken facing rainworth as you can see pit road on left. As ever, excellent content.
