Reminds me of 2014. The bluecoats had an absolutely breathtaking, extremely entertaining show but were once again overshadowed by the sheer perfection of the blue devils
Mikethedude22 well said good sir. Although I still think tilt was more entertaining than Felliniesque. It was a good show (definitely better than the shit show of ghost light) but it’s just a different type of show. I prefer tilt imo just because it was intense musically. Felliniesque was def a better show however
Mikethedude22 in all honestly tilt is prolly my favorite dci show of all time. Entertaining from start to finish. And by god the pitch bend still puts chills up my spine... but felliniesque was so perfect from a technical standpoint. nobody was beating it
If Blue Devils didn’t happen to win percussion on finals night then I think there would have been a different outcome. I don’t wanna say “ the blue devils show sucks cause blah blah blah” but I personally didn’t enjoy ghostlight too much. Take it with a grain of salt cause I’m a diehard Bloo fan but I’ve tried to love it and I just can’t.
@@calvinswaney3452 I feel kind of the same here. Ghostlight is hard to like but what I can appreciate about it is how tight they can play everything. I tried to learn the trumpet part and had to lookup scores online because it was to complicated for me to understand by ear. It's complicated and they play it well!
This show has improved leaps and bounds all season and the polished (too perfection!!) final result couldn't be denied. Personally, I was pulling for Bluecoats, and that show was beautifully designed (hence GE win), but just came up a little short. Two great shows! But BD just had this one.
This is the first show in YEARS where I felt that 12 minutes felt like 2! This show is like a feast for all the senses. I also loved the Bluecoats show but definitely could do without some parts here and there. I definitely think the right corps won on finals night.
Congrats to both Blues and all the corps for all the Hard work to get to this level. You will remember this night for the rest of your life the work, the long practices, but most of all friendship you have make. The love of Music brings us all together. I was in a corp in the 1960's and it still brings the greatest joy to my heart. Hold on to the dreams. 😎🥁🇺🇸🇨🇦
I remember how the show first began when they performed in Clovis at MidCal DCI. Thank you for posting this. My, how they improved to very end and up to the finals. GO BLUE DEVILS!!!
We watched this on the night of our final day of band camp and it was amazing! So proud of them! Especially those from our visuals team who performed! Can’t wait to see next year’s show and I hope it’s as phenomenal as this one! 😊
When I was in high school marching band 1974-1977, I couldn't imagine a marching band execute such complicated maneuvers while playing some of the most difficult music. I am in awe of the most amazing talent from around the country. Others who are not familiar with this high powered performance, should see it just once. They would be hooked forever. It dazzles the mind!!
I hate how much Ghostlight gets laid on by everyone. I think it was a unique and different style of music, bringing in the dramatic feel, especially with the violin. I think the props and backtrack was used incredibly well. The Colorguard, Dance, and Choreography was much different than the past BD shows I’ve seen, and really brought the theatre feeling to life. The Pit and Violin were incredible and I think were the most overshadowed of all the groups. The High Brass definitely overshadowed The Pit and Low Brass. The Low Brass was cleverly used, especially with the throwback to 2017 with the Trombones, and in the first part after the Violin and Before High Brass, and the Euphonium solo and Sousaphone solo were very good, but I think the Sousaphone should’ve had more time. My only problem were the Battery Percussion. I think the Battery were under used, but when used, the parts they played in, they were completely unnecessary, like the Snares in the Trombone part. I really liked the idea of using tap shoes on the props, so kudos to them for that.
Bluecoats were great but the blue devils were just that much more crisp and its really hard to match that level of excellence. Congrats to both corps. Blue Devils were just that bit better when they had to have it
There's something so mystifying about how loud and silent the recording makes the hit at 13:04 It's the final phrase of the encore, a culmination of two and a half months of brothers in arms perfecting their craft. and we watch from a distance as they celebrate all that they have achieved. its beautiful.
That Everett Kim dude taught at my marching band/indoor percussion for about a year and took us to Open Class and both Division and State Champions. Thank you Everett!
Typically when I watch dci shows, I always watch the opening hit and a little bit after, then it gets boring so I skip to the ballad hit which is always good then skip to the ending. I know it's a damn good show when I can't skip ahead because it's so good. This is one of those shows. The bluecoats have the best hits but there are parts that aren't that interesting. Whenever I revisit these videos I skip to the awesome hits because that's the part of the show that's cool.
@@Ebidle Nineteen championships I would say the odds are high that they could repeat lol!!!! But I want too see the show that beats them because it would have to be special!!!!!
Hey, Nineteen, what can I say about the best drum corps in history?? Hey, Nineteen!!! I am absolutely drenched with cascades of my own sweaty joy and gonadinal drippings after three different Blue Devils expulsions of generosity and of adulation throughout the mind-blowing climaxes in both power and utterly tye sweetest of all
This thread is so full of armchair judges and salty salty people. LOL! The best show won and that's all there is to it. Now, one could make an argument on entertainment value since it's subjective. BUT a lot of people liked Ghostlight (even usual haters of BD - just go to the forums) and if you guys put your biases aside, I think it would be in your guys' best interest as a DCI fan to see why.
This show was perfection. There was truly a breathtaking magical experience atmosphere at every aspect that was possible to feel again through this 2019 Ghostlight show. Way to go Blue Devils Victorious run!
The trumpet soloist hang over at the end was perfect. They should have allowed that in the finals performance and the judges should have lauded it instead of denigrating the hang over as an asynchronous release. It just sounds better this way, when done right, and this was done right, synced with the final drum hit on one.
That is the *_Encore_* and I was told it is OK to upload it here. It is considered an exhibition or something. Anyways I have the original files and the exported video. ;)
Announcer: -They made it 19 [wins] in [20]'19. Ladies and gentlemens please welcome to the field from Canton California the Blue Devils. For the rest I am not sure. Audio is clearer here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nZFfXIxF4mw.html I think it says something like "Zeus! Welcome the voice our Zeus. What do you bring? My heart terror. Terror shakes my heart. Hollow healer of demons [...] what now. What is your price [sopium] sacrifice? Some ancient rite from the past? [...] to die. To see or must we pretend [...]" Here is the Blue Devils website about their show bluedevils.org/programs/a-corps/seasons/?programID=1&season=2019&module=info
One issue that I have with the Blue Devils is that most of their shows, whilst EXTREMELY well executed, don't really have a show "arc" to follow. I just don't "get" their show concepts compared to other corps. If someone can explain what certain things in this mean, I'd appreciate it.
Dude you know what would be cool?? If the Blue Devils added a marching woodwind section!!!! Dude that would be so innovative and cool!!! I’ve NEVER seen a marching woodwind line!! That would be so cool!!!!
Wait really I didnt think they are rare my school matches every instrument literally except like soprano sax cause it doesn't have parts we got piccolos flutes bari sax tenor sax alto sax clarinet bass clarinet all you want anything
Go see some japanese marching band! I don't recal the name but there is one that is really popular and they are really impressive. They jump while playing!
Dude I’ve seen you comment like 6 times on this video. Even if you didn’t like their show, you can’t deny the level of excellence they preformed it at. Sure the bluecoats also had a fantastic show that also could have won, but you can’t say the devils didn’t put the work in to win the title.
Would be cool if they added woodwind elements to the shows in the coming years, but adding a full woodwind section breaks the tradition of these groups being “drum and bugle corps”
I love your energy so much! It makes me feel so personally excited to reach my goal of joining a corp and becomkng part of a family that loves and pours their heart out into what they do, and this is why I feel really bad about what Im about to say. I watched a lot of cams and sadly, it felt really boring, especially the mellophone part. It would be really cool while they played and then it stopped...for a really long time. I understand choreography is a vital part to any marching arts show, but the music just felt so lacking, and for a 13 minute show? I don't know, but it just really disheartened me. I'm not going to be the kind of person to say that 'dRuM cOrP iSnT wHat iT uSeD tO bE' but for a champion corp, the show was really musically bleak. It probably is just me plus I got a lot of this feeling after watching the mello cam so maybe thats why.
I watched the trumpet cam and I found it exciting! The trumpet features seem challenging. I did not see CCrown's cams but those must be really cool as well.
BTW I am not the one who screams. I am more the type of guy that lets a little tear out ;) The guys besides me where really pumping us up and I looved it. He commented on the video.
I wish I had enough money to have more centered seats ;) People were leaving at the awards ceremony (right before that encore performance) and I was even more on the side during the show. I was able to pick empty seats more towards the center to film that wonderfull show.
It's a Bb Major with a 9th added. Notes are Bb-D-F-C "Bb9" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qz57mDzsCmM.html I play the trumpet and it goes C-E-G-D ;)
It was filmed on my Sony XZ2 Compact. It does not have the best microphones (it is a phone afterall) but at least they are stereo. Look at my other videos for amazing sound and video quality. They are mostly filmed with my Canon SL2 and a Zoom H1 audio-recorder. The phone audio is not great but not bad imo ;) .
Oh. Look at the blue devils 2004. They got 2nd place and their show was the best. I was upset just like y'all are about the bluecoats. So the same thing has happened to the blue devils
Headcams are starting to be uploaded on RU-vid. You should be able to hear the music really well on those! Go see *_6am Films_* and *_ThatWasLoud_* channels. They make good ones.
Okay I don’t mean to sound like a hater but what is this show supposed to be, like a circus? Or a ghost town? Or something I don’t know please tell me Edit: Thanks for telling me what it is, it now gives me more of an understanding of this show and makes it better now I know what it’s about
It's basically about what happens when the Ghostlight turns on (a Ghostlight is a light that is turned on after a theatre closes so the staff can clean, but there are myths about ghosts appearing during that time) and it goes through the different forms of theatrics- I hope this helps!! If I'm wrong or missing something, someone, please add :)
Kyla Stivers it’s also the “ghosts” of past BD shows and other stolen elements from other corps show. Hence the airplane rushing in the beginning like BC Downside Up
@@xXEpicMehXx I mean. If you listen to the narration, it quotes theatrical productions and shakespearean quotes. So, if people didn't get it... they really had to try to not to. Also you should watch BD360, it goes in depth about the production and clears up a lot of confusion :)
10:30 i'm pretty sure they got inspiration for this part from The Academy's 2015 program ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ilrJLDwIOGc.html (I'm talking about the part with the tap shoes)
From the standpoint of overall visual effect, these prop-laden shows are designed from a bird's eye view that treats the people and the props as potentially equal contributors. So the people are essentially a movable, shape-changing prop, and of course they're tasked with moving the actual props. And the designer considers not only how the props will enhance the contribution of the people, but vice versa: how can the people make the props look and work better? Lots and lots of people playing off props. I don't like it. Another word for prop is crutch.
The same openers as 2014 and 2016, same odd audio clips that lead into a drum break, literally the SAME Trombone feature. It seems the only reason they win is because half their Corps has marched this show in years past.
You're right, half the corps is definitely left over from five seasons ago. That's the only reason they won, not because this show is a literal masterclass in visual design and execution.
Let's face it, Bluecoats lost because of 2 judges that were not consistent with the others, just look at the score sheet and you will see who it is. However Blue Devils are a good drum corps.
@@gilleslabelle7409 That's why there are 4 GE judges because GE is somewhat subjective. The GE judges were equally split the night before on prelims so it's not out of the question for them to not all agree on finals. Also, Jeff Prosperie for percussion is one of the most upstanding and credible judges in the circuit. If he saw that BD was better on finals night, then they were better....simple as that. If you were in drum corps for 8 years, then you'd know it'd be better to be rational in these situation than to start conspiracy theories. It doesn't help the activity.
@@rygregory Why get so defensive, I only said that it is possible that some judges prefer some corps more than others. Besides I am not talking about the judge you are mentioning. Just like you said, if they saw BD being better that night there is not much we can do but take it. It's like the Olympics. Thanks for your comment. I still like DB, it's a very strong and deep organization.
Jason Hurd yup, like your music scale has no sense at all. How could you take comparing this awesome perfect performance with your b l o o giant backdrops?!!
@@numarasia I see your a dumbass blue devil fan who has no clue about music. The judges are biased towards them. BlueCoats should have one. PERIOD! BD brass never wins the Ott award....Carolina Crown deserved that. Go away kid.
