Tanya Petrushka...I saw the rehearsal vid also. I was happy to see the two drummer groups get together. This video shows the work put into making a stunning performance. I'm a fan of TS for many years. I never get tired of seeing them perform the world over. I'm also proud of the Blue Devils. Good going guys!
If you’re in DCI, you are supposed to be competitive. But when you’re performing in a tattoo, you’re supposed to please the crowds. That’s when I hate it when people throw shade at top secret; they are excellent at what they do, they just have to appeal to a much larger crowd. DCI on the other hand has only to appeal to a few judges. This creates a system where top secret will always be limited to much more understandable, crowd pleasing music, whereas the blue devils are free to go as weird as they want.
Plus let’s be honest here: would an average joe high school marching band parent really be able to understand a DCI show? Probably not, there’s way too much to be interpreted, whereas a top secret show is easier to follow and retains difficulty in music
@@grahamr4916 Well they both convey precision from the quality of drumming and visuals. They also play very similarly written music like split timing bass drum notes and similar snare drum rudiments. I think that's where most people compare DCI to Top Secret. In that case, there are consistent noticeable differences in quality being executed from DCI and Top Secret styles of drumming.
+Ako Si Libro No , they did NOT have additional sticks on the side of their drums and the drummer did NOT recover and pull a replacement, which is why he played "AIR DRUM" for the rest of the show.
+Dominich Guerra Watch: " best drumline video ever amazing" At 4:09. In that video, Top Secret Drum Corps are tossing sticks back and forth and one drummer drops the stick on the second throw. But in the same motion, he pulls a replacement and tosses it back and DOESN"T MISS A BEAT !!! Check out the drummer on the lower left of the screen in that video. It's an amazing recovery.
Top Secret Drum Corps and Blue Devils are amazing-- though I prefer the Blue Devils brass to their percussion... and really my top favorite is Carolina Crown!
Back when I was just a lowly high school student, we had some guys from The Blue Devils come to our school to help us with the drum, rifle, and flag corps. I was in the flags but we shocked everybody at competition when we were performing and all of a sudden, we threw our flags at the rifles and they threw rifles at us, all over the drum line, then we started twirling each other's flag or rifle. Nobody had seen that in the South in the late 70's. LOL I can still do flags at 57 but am unable to still do rifles due to degenerative arthritis. I actually kept up with doing it off and on just on my own in the back yard because it's fun to do. Nowadays though, I'm more apt to be twirling either my manure fork or pitch fork because I'm usually out in my pasture cleaning up after the horse and sheep. I really miss those days. The camaraderie is incredible, even between rival corps, because we all know just how much practice is necessary to really put in a crisp performance that will rouse the audience. They were some of the happiest times of my teen and early adult years.
That was incredible. Gobsmacked. Love the TSDC for quite some time now since their first appearance at the Edinburgh Tattoo but this is just phenomenal. To combine two groups who haven't played together before and be seamless... It's awe inspiring stuff!!
At first, I didn't know where this was going because the Blue Devils didn't start off clean but, by the second round, they got it together. Seeing the two bands jam in unison, really is extraordinary. I give them all the credit for training to accomplish that. Their parents must be proud.
This is a Blue Devils extended alumni group, not really the main corps. They also had to learn Top Secret's book for this show, it's not like Top Secret is going to be able to play BD's book. If you want to see the level corps drumlines are capable of, there are plenty of clips to check out. When doing so, notice the complexity and raw talent. They don't just play easy beats and dance around with their drums lighting up.
Loved it. I guess it's the nature of DC conversations that they always turn into an argument about who's better, who's more technically proficient, etc. It's always been that way, in my DC experience. These days, I am a VERY casual observer. I couldn't care less who's "the best." (I'm not sure the usual metrics for judging are that important to me.) All these folks are amazing and fun to watch.
that must of been sort of hard for the basses cause there’s two of each bass so they have to get it in Time but they are basically the two best drum lines so it probably wasn’t that hard
1:59 (guy on the right side or ur screen) Dam it Ricky u just had one fucking thing to do and u f*cked it up) Funny how everybody can't tell the comment is a joke, I'm in the drumlins, trust me, dropping sticks isnt a rare occasion.
Someone loves you... For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. JOHN 3:16
1) Cool opportunity for the members of the BD to play overseas. No doubt. 2) This wasn't even close to the BD's best, due to learning new music and a different drumming style in only a few days. 3) I would love for the TSDC to travel to the U.S. to see how BD performs to perfection in a DCI show, and therefore try to match their drumming technique in a combined performance for an American audience.
I watched the behind the scenes practice of these 2 excellent performance teams. Was hoping to see them in front of the crowd like this. Wish there was more to see.
I saw Top Secret live in Edinburgh castle. It happens from time to time. You drop a stick. The fact they can snatch one as a replacement without skipping a beat is truly remarkable.
As a Canastota Saint Drum and Bugle Corps member, we came up against these guys 50 years ago...they blew us away then and apparently have only gotten better. Props!
Top Secret's back sticking is very old school with near perfect heights. That is one aspect about drum corps these players never got to see. The parts were simpler but everything was precise movement. I love old and new stuff.
It is a lot harder to perfect heights when you have a billion more notes than the other drumlines. But they get extremely close and it is still perfectly fine
Holy moly! What a outstanding accomplishment with two best teams in the world came together for the first time to perform a combined drumline performance and it was so unbelievable!
I'm sorry, but this is bdi and top secret, not the best in the world, if it was something like bda and bloo or bda and cadets yes, but not bdi and top secret
+Dill Pickle I'm sorry, but this is the Blue Devils and Top Secret Drum Corps, and NOT BDI and Top Secret . Look at the damn channel name, the video name itself, the video DESCRIPTION and the name and description on the first rehearsal video, as well. ALL clearly say " Blue Devils and Top Secret". Full stop. And for your edification, BDI is every bit as good as the Blue Devils, with the identical very high standards, and is literally, trained and choreographed by the SAME TEAM and, in addition to BD members, the others in BDI are culled from the very BEST drumlines in the world , from 1,000 of the top applicants. Top Secret Drum Corps is totally UNIQUE in the world of drumming and drumlines and their choreography and showmanship is unmatched by any DCI drum drumline that typically just does technical drumming and adds 10,000 other musicians and ballet dancers to do the real "show". So you're full of shit , all the way around. You know the old saying, " Too many dill pickles spoils the Carnegie Deli Corned Beef on Club", which also beats your white bread and mayonnaise. .
Marathonracer sorry to tell ya, that is the BDI drumline performing with Top Secret. The A corps NEVER had any involvement with TopSecret. I marched that summer with BDI, so I can attest to that fact. BDI was made up of members that mostly marched BDA (aka Blue Devils or BD World), but we still identified as BDI that summer. Whoever uploaded the video titled it incorrectly. Regardless, it's still a Blue Devils affiliated program and the members still appreciate any and all recognition or feedback.
+Bryan Vargas I have absolutely no problem with that, although it's BOTH videos that refer to them as "Blue Devils", including the first rehearsal. Did you march in this video with BDI? Because that is the ONLY way you would know that the A Team "NEVER had any involvement with Top Secret". And you referred to "they " in this video, in another thread, so you obviously did NOT perform in this video. It's too bad that some other idiots on these comments are trying to sleight Top Secret Drum Corps by implying they were performing with a somehow "lesser drumline". That's why I explained the very high caliber of BDI that I looked up and which you can obviously see and hear. The Blue Devils are certainly great , but its a very different type of performance and choreography from Top Secret. Some people just can't appreciate both.
Marathonracer Marathonracer I marched with BDI in 2015, and I was a member of the A corps from 2007-2010. I referred to the performers in this video as "they" because I wasn't a percussionist. Guard member. And I agree with you, TopSecret and Blue Devils create two different products. TopSecret focuses primarily on showmanship and entertainment. They don't compete in the same field show/drum corps atmosphere, so their precision is mostly based on stand still performances rather than marching around a football field or stadium.
I am after BTS’ ON googling everything about Blue Devils and they are totally the best ones who could work with Bangtan. Watching BD’s performances is worthy
Reading these comments makes me SO glad I’m not a drummer or drummer wannabe…it allows me to enjoy both of these fine drum lines. If learning to play music turns you into some kind of snob…quit music!
Joachim Buch I wouldn’t say much better, the blue devils didn’t quite show their real musicality and cleanliness in this since it’s a crowd pleasure show and not for their DCI show which is much more complex, it’s unfair to jusdge who is better for this. Visually, top secret is better because that’s what they do, bluedevils don’t look as good but I can tell you this, during their competition, they sound way better.
+PedtoFTW ! I didn't see that and i've watched this too many times, he was just using his hand instead of a stick. He was smashing his hand on the drum instead of havcing a stick to do that for him. We must all pray for his hand.
Yeah. My favorite drum line is the commandant's own but I have to give credit where credit is due, SCV IS BAD TO THE BONE!!! Those guys are beast mode!!
+John C. Saccomandi III and to add on to that, the International corps is separate from the main competitive corps known as the "A" corps which competes in DCI
What are the drums? Do the Top S use Dynamic drums, with remi skins? And does Duke use Pearl drums with ???? skins??? I Always wondered????!!! IT CAN MAKE OR BREAK A DRUM LINE! Not really. lol
Nice to see a collaboration between the two groups. Also glad it was on Top Secret's turf/style/venue. The other way around would not have been as . . . equitable.
just having seen the video where those 2 just met and practised it for the first time just gives a whole different impression about how insanely good they are and how good their coaches are to have them be able to do this in just 30 mins
It's not like that. The Blue Devils extended group learned to play Top Secret's music for this show. Top Secret would not be capable of playing a Blue Devils show. If you have the talent to make the Blue Devils drumline you are not going to implode when meeting a high-school talent level drumline like Top Secret.
That was amazing, Top Secret and the Blue Devils?!?My high school band doesn't even have 5 snares so seeing something like this especially with 2 prestigious drum corps is really cool!
