This video is gonna blow up. Somebody reply in a few days to remind me Edit: It only doubled in views :/ Edit 2: nevermind the algorithm has given a second chance
Ah the “road to Damascus” moment. Mine was in 1995 when BD came out of the fog at Santa Barbara City College playing that Carpe Noctem show. This 2011 show is the last great one for me. I hope 2023 can reach this.
Hunter Alexander quit hating. Just because this corps consistently outperforms every other does not mean you have to hate their show designs for not playing the SAME things High School bands across the country perform every year.
@@matthewminnich8251 bruh they get hate cause they play highschool lvl music with minimal difficulty. They score high cause they're clean, sure, but they haven't really pushed boundaries in 18 or 19, although 17 was a banger.
I really don’t agree but both show were amazing.! This show when I saw it earlier that year resembled nothing like final.! They went thru major drill changes later in the season. It really came together. I have to say one of the harder BD drill shows in the past decade along with 2008 and 2013.
Whenever I hear someone say "Why is that marching band on the football field?" I show them this video. We should all be asking "Why is that football team on the marching field?" lmao
Ok look, im a diehard SCV fan. I dont even really like Felliniesque that much. But this show actually resonates with me. This is a BD show i actually like and it didnt even win. Although the Cadets show was killer.
what’s so special about cadets 2011 anyways? i didn’t like it. is it how half the Corp is red while the other is white? it’s unique, but I don’t like it. the beat my heart skipped should have won imo
The Cadets show connected with many that summer. The top four actually changed places some that year, with Cavies being undefeated until around mid season.
First of all I was looking at the guy on the most right and I was like “yeah he’s pretty groovy” and then I saw they guy you were talking about and I was like “no nvm he be groovy”
BD tends to do aggressively artsy shows, so i appreciate how approachable this one was. i also feel grateful for their tasteful use of props - it seems BD takes care not to allow props to take up too much visual space, which i first thought about while watching their 2010 show.
My dad introduced me to the music of Burt Bacharach as a little kid. My dad passed in 2011 (I just realized the same year as this show), and when I saw this, I couldn't stop playing it, and I couldn't stop crying. Oh, I wish I had 12 more minutes with my Dad so we could hear this together.
@@alehmkuhler sorry, but I know it's not a college band, but I watch college bands March on RU-vid and that's probably why bands marching are being recommended
When they announced this show early on I'm like "Seriously" Burt Bacharach show? Then come finals in August and yeah...Seriously...kicked ass. This show I listen to all the time.
I love this production so much, I feel like metamorph was just to show off their capability as a group and solos, nothing fit together properly except for drum line and they were doing crazy shit the whole time, but this one is just amazing, the horns are amazing together and this production flows, their retuning of the drums also really helps, especially the snares, another thing is how drum line wasn’t just showing off this year so it fit well
IKR! Someone else shares my opinion about that show. Sure, blue devils are talented, but why just boast about that with nonsensical music and random shit like 2017? This show is awesome and one of my all time favs
The last closing trumpet solo was everything. The best moment ever. Whoever hit that solo that year oh man you really brought it for everyone no joke dude
You know what's wild about this song? If you play it to almost any American today, they will know it but won't know where they know it from. It's one of the great unifiers of the world, music. Someone can, without knowing it's name, who created it, anyone who played in it, where it came from, or have to know a single note of it, know the song and feel something when they hear it. This is one of those songs. It's just a beautiful piece and every bar is like a wave of emotion hitting you. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be anywhere near a live performance of it but I imagine it's pure bliss.
This should have won... so smooth, so cool SO Blue Devils. Cadets were great and also worthy of the championship, but this show had the feels that Angels and Demons just did not have. This was natural.
You all put your heart and soul into this song. The emotion in this performance shows how dedicated you all are. You all are the embodiment of what it means to be in a drum core, and I'm thankful that I found you all.
the only thing I would change about this show is the closing note. since the closer felt so grand with the long line, I feel like it should have closed on a Bb instead of an f chord (I think that's an f chord, idk) but besides that, personal fav bd show.
@@zumptt its nice, don't get me wrong, i really think it can be a great last note to a different kind of show. but the fact that "a house is not a home" is such a nice song, the opener to this show, the closer is a reprise of the opener, and the closer just felt like a great way to end a show, i feel like it should have ended on a Bb note. take felliniesque for example, the closer is probably my fav bd closer, if it ended on *this* note, it would feel weird, wouldn't it? idk, this is my personal opinion, and we really shouldn't judge a show by a single note lmao. i was just giving a suggestion on how the show could have been better, but besides that, no flaws.
I’m so in love with this show. This show has officially inspired me to learn a brass instrument and one day be a Blue Devil. I promise I am going to work my ass off from this day forward until i get into this program
@@ellapavel2348 see i haven't had the chance to learn any brass because i've been so caught up in perfecting the clarinet, but during the span of that comment to now, i've become a drum major, and am hoping to get in as a drum major :D
This show randomly appeared in my Facebook feed months ago, and I've been obsessed with it - the sounds, the chords!!! - and other DCI Drum & Bugle Corps performances ever since. This really opened up a new world for me. I am so glad to know that there are others like me - who are really into this. I'm going to my first ever DCI competitions this year!
@@gavintantleffyes! If "Heart Skipped" got me going, then "Metamorph" cemented the deal for sure! The hornline is absolutely insane. Then there's "Cabaret Voltaire" and "Ink". I've ripped BD music and I listen to it all the time.
Hannah Guy I only disagre because it’s passionate not technical. IMO there is a fine line between each. Technicality is based off of musicianship and cleanliness but passion is due to the fact that not only are the marchers and guard pulling their weight, but performing the show with every ounce of strength and passion they can muster. For the 11 minutes they are on the field they give it their all and make the field theirs. And that’s in my opinion but to each their own
@@andyzavala2349 I agree, this show is a rare example of Blue Devils NOT being over technical, and rather focusing on having fun and entertaining the audience
There have been few comments about the music itself, most of which was written by Burt Bacharach. An amazingly brilliant choice of material for this corps and this performance. I watch it often and weep every time at its awesome power and sheer beauty. The Blue Devils are incomparable imho. Just listen to the sound from 6:37 through 6:59--twelve seconds of such beautiful and intense sound that it will knock you off your feet.
When I was a kid in the 70's, my dad bought a kick ass stereo from Radio Shack. He played Burt Bacharach albums and other jazz and orchestrated stuff all the time on the High-Fi. Fast forward, I became a professional musician and band director. I am a school administrator now, but still play semi-professionally. Burt Bacharach schooled me on all types of rhythm, style, and harmony. The Blue Devils take on this is sublime. Love the extended chords and mixed meter. If you don't look for it, it is beautiful. Wayne Downey of course captures all the best.
I play trumpet at Hewitt trussville and our show this year was very similar to this one and I really loved it for my first year of marching. Can’t wait for next year (also I have ptsd from the trumpet feature at 5:30)
Just getting into listening to DCI and learning all my favorites and this is my favorite show. Absolutely love it especially the solos and the chords right after! Hopefully I’ll be a BD one day!
Check out Metamorph! I grew up with DCI and watching some of these shows can just make ya tear up at how hard they work and what masterpieces they put on for their fans. Poetry in motion.
I’ve been watching so much DCI and I literally cannot stop playing Metamorph over and over again, it is so good. Metamorph is my new fav but the Beat My Heart skipped is still in top 5
@@jared0111 still kinda new to dci, really the only older shows i have looked into are phantom regiment's. i have seen the start of bd 1996 which was insane.
Ok tbh I love every show all drum Corps put out as long as they put every ounce of sweat and every tear and all of their effort into their show, I think it is amazing regardless, yet there are only a few shows that can be called amazing. The ones that you listen to every day that you wish you were there. The shows that you put on replay over and over again because it was truly amazing. This show is that and more to me and I hope it is the same to you.
I’ve actually transcribed the whole ending! I have even the battery parts. Just need to put it into one whole score. Should get that done by July 26 because I have loaned my computer to my sister for a bit.
I have 3 favorite Blue Devils shows that I can’t even decide between (2011, 2017, 2019) and then there’s my favorite Santa Clara show (2019) and ugdhdjdjsak California is a powerhouse for DCI!
Shocking, I am from Bolivia and the truth I feel that the Blue Devils must have won that year, magnificent historical and legendary presentation, keep going Blue Devils Greetings from Bolivia
it's great that there's drum corps fans in bolivia!! cheers. i do really like this show, it's my favorite show of theirs of the 2010's, but i feel like the cadets deserved the win that year.
I preferred The Cadets show that year, on a complete performance level. However, when driving in my car and wanting to just listen, I much prefer this. Music > Visuals.
