i would have loved to be an extra in that audience ... i went to the blues fest in '92 there, and it blew me away...1,000.000 plus people in Grant Park...i hung out with the U of I Champlain - Urbana kids ...it was off the charts, before or since!

I first heard the Blues Brothers driving in the car when I was maybe 8 years old. Fell in love with Soul Man and Rubber Biscuit. Their music was like nothing I’d ever heard. I’d seen snippets of the movie, but never the whole thing, but for young me that was enough. I joined Band in Highschool and played the Trombone because I loved the horn lines from this band. Years later I saw the movie, loved every second of it and learned about John Belushi. It was crushing to know that my favorite band ever kinda dissolved following his death. Then, last year, after playing Trombone all through middle and highschool and into college, some Jazz professors who left the college were putting on a show in Emporia Kansas (I live in Illinois, of course), featuring Blue Lou Marini. I was floored. In the Fall, my Dad and I took a weekend road trip down to Kansas to see Blue Lou live. After the concert, I leveraged my friendship with the former Professor who put on the show to meet Blue Lou, got a photo with him and he signed the Album cover of the Blues Brothers Original Soundtrack I brought with. Leaving the theater I told my dad “that is the closest I’ll ever get to seeing a Blues Brothers concert.” I’ve never been so happy to be wrong. Literally a month or 2 ago, the Old Joliet Prison Historical Society hosted the first ever Blues Brothers Con, featuring a performance by Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi reprising their roles as Elwood and Brother Zee. They also had Tom ‘Bones’ Malone on stage with them. I watched the Blues Brothers perform in the Old Joliet Prison courtyard. My whole life I thought I’d never be able to see the Band that inspired me to play music. Seeing them live, even if not the original band, is more than enough for me.

It's rare to see this kind of raw energy in a performance captured on film. Danny was like 7 feet tall back then 😂, and John had busted his ankle but was still doing moves.
